Definitions
- the present invention relates to a catalyst used primarily in the first stage of a multireactor process for the hydrodemetalization (HDM) reaction of heavy and extra-heavy crudes.
- HDM hydrodemetalization
- the synthesized catalysts of the present invention considerably improve the hydrodemetallization activity, in addition to having high metal retention capacity due to which they are not quickly deactivated by poisoning the contaminants from heavy crude, especially Nickel and Vanadium metals (Ni and V).
- this process not only removes the impurities that are adverse such as metals, sulfur, nitrogen, etc., but can also disintegrate the heavy fraction and convert it into high-value components that have lower boiling points.
- Heavy oil contains a substantial amount of asphaltenes and other hydrocarbons that are associated with a large amount of sulfur, nitrogen and metals
- these heavy crude fractions found their application in pavements and converted to more valuable products using thermal processes.
- It is known that said reduction in the content of metals, sulfur and the conversion to lower boiling hydrocarbons can be carried out by the addition of hydrogen and a porous solid catalyst at elevated temperatures and pressures. There are few previous works in which catalysts related to the present invention are reported.
- WO 0, 253, 286 claims a hydroprocessing catalyst for the conversion of heavy hydrocarbons, which contains a transition metal of group Vl with a concentration of 7 to 20% by weight and a metal of group VIII with a concentration of 0.5 -6% weight in a calcined catalyst, which constitutes the composition of the oxide on an alumina support.
- This invention provides a catalyst for the hydroprocessing of heavy oils in a boiling bed.
- US 4,746,419 mentions a bimodal catalyst characterized by having a surface area of 75-400 m 2 / g and a total pore volume of 0.5-1.5 cc / g. Of the total pore volume, between 0.2 and 0.3 cc / g are found in pores greater than 60 nm radius and no more than 0.15 cc / g in pores greater than 200 nm radius. Also, US Patents 4, 225, 421 and 4, 46, 419 mention that high surface areas and bimodal catalysts for hydroprocessing of heavy hydrocarbons are desirable. However, these patents do not refer to the way in which the pore volume is distributed across the range of pores that are less than 60 nm radius and that can make a difference in the performance of the catalyst.
- US Patent 5,545,602 claims a catalyst whose composition contains a high amount of Group VIII and VIB metals together with phosphorus oxide, with a surface area of 150-240 m 2 / g, total pore volume of 0.7-0.98 cm 3 / g and a pore volume distribution where less than 20% corresponds to the micropore zone with a diameter of 10 nm, about 34-74% corresponds to the pores within the range of 10-20 nm, 26-46% corresponds to the region of mesoporos with pore diameter of 20 nm, 22-32% with pores of diameters of 25 nm and the macroporous region with diameters of 100 nm that contributes with 14-22%.
- This patent mainly claims a process for waste used as fillers having an API gravity of 4-6 °.
- US 6, 218, 333 discloses a detailed method for the preparation of a catalyst by a porous support (alumina, silica-alumina, silica, titanium, boron, zeolites, zirconium, magnesium and combinations thereof) with one or more active metals (Mo 1 W, Co, Ni and their oxides, sulphides and mixtures thereof).
- a porous support alumina, silica-alumina, silica, titanium, boron, zeolites, zirconium, magnesium and combinations thereof
- active metals Mo 1 W, Co, Ni and their oxides, sulphides and mixtures thereof.
- the catalyst of the present invention is used primarily in the first stage of hydroprocessing reaction of heavy crude and residues with a high metal content (Ni and V) .
- This catalyst has a balance between the physical properties of the catalyst (large pore diameter) so that it admits a maximum amount of heavy hydrocarbons that can be processed in its pores and at the same time generate as many active catalytic sites as possible in Ia surface as inside the pores.
- our catalyst allows high conversions, high stability depending on the running time. That is, there is an attractive hydroprocessing catalyst to maximize the balance between the life of the catalyst and the activity. This is achieved by varying the composition of the support (different from alumina), resulting in the modification of the textural properties and, consequently, by varying the pore diameter of the catalyst.
- heavy oil hydroprocessing catalysts The performance of heavy oil hydroprocessing catalysts is often affected by diffusion limitations to the pores generated by the deposition of coal and metals.
- the variation of the composition of the support is a way of finding the optimum pore diameter of the catalyst which will help to obtain a more selective activity that depends on the dispersion of the active metal as well as the pore diameter of the catalysts.
- the heavy fraction of the crude oil contains quantities of sulfur and other contaminants that exhibit different reactivities during hydroprocessing and depending on their complexity, can affect the course of the reactions in different ways to the point where they can even deactivate the catalyst to a very fast speed.
- an object of the present invention is to provide a catalyst for the hydroconversion of heavy crudes and residues.
- Another object of the present invention is that the catalyst has a high metal removal capacity in such a way that the operating cycle of the hydroprocessing units is extended as well as protecting the subsequent processes in the multi-reactor system.
- a further object of the present invention is to develop a hydrodemetalization catalyst located in the first reactor to remove metals and protect the activity of the hydrodesulphurization, hydrogenation and hydrodesnitrogenation catalysts that are loaded into the subsequent reactors of a system. Additionally, one more object is to design or manipulate the pore diameter of the HDM catalyst in order to hydroprocess the large molecular metal compounds.
- the HDM catalyst loaded in the first reactor
- subsequent catalysts are characterized by having high surface area and moderate pore size distribution. It should be mentioned that catalysts that have larger pores facilitate the diffusion of asphaltenes into the catalyst.
- Figure 1 shows a flow chart illustrating the steps (AG) for the manufacture of the hydroprocessing catalyst of the present invention, where: (A) refers to the drying of the powdered boehmite; (B) indicates the powder mixing of one or two components of the support; (C) indicates the peptization of the boehmite with 3.5% HNO 3 ; (D) is the preparation part of the extrudates; (E) refers to the drying and calcination of the support; (F) refers to the preparation of the catalysts and; (G) is the stage of drying and calcination.

- the present invention relates to a catalyst for the hydroprocessing of heavy hydrocarbons used as a filler.
- the catalyst obtained is characterized by having a large pore diameter for the hydrodemetalization of heavy oil and waste in the first reactor of a multi-reactor process.
- the catalyst has high activity in the demetalization and high capacity of metal deposition, which results in good stability with respect to the run time (TOS).
- the hydrorefining catalyst is obtained by kneading a porous powder material composed mainly of gamma-alumina, this paste is extruded, the extrudates are dried and calcined, the properties of these extrudates are: a pore volume of 0.3-0.6 mL / g or greater and average pore diameter of 10 to 26 nm, subsequently active metal components of elements belonging to groups VIIIB and VIB of the periodic table are added.
- Our invention is presented with the title "Catalyst for the first stage of hydrodemetalization in a hydroprocessing system with multiple reactors for the improvement of heavy and extra-heavy crudes". To make it clear the best way to obtain the catalyst, its properties and how to use it, the description of the present invention is presented in detail, making reference to the accompanying figures.
- FIG. 1 The stages of preparation of the support and catalysts are shown in Figure 1, which includes the steps (A-G).
- the main step is the peptization of aluminas which are responsible for the resistance of the catalysts as well as the generation of macropores due to the inter-particle distance they present.
- Aqueous boehmite suspensions were acidified (peptized) with dilute nitric acid at room temperature to produce sol colloidal systems.
- the required amount of aluminum oxyhydroxide alumina (boehmite) is first dried at 12O 0 C for 5 h (A).
- the following steps are dry mixing of different boehmites (B) and continuous mixing with 3.5% (volume / volume) of distilled HNO 3 and H 2 O (C).
- B dry mixing of different boehmites
- C distilled HNO 3 and H 2 O
- D deionized water
- the extrudates obtained from the pulp are kept at 20-25 0 C for 12-18 h, then dried at 100-12O 0 C for 2-6 h, and calcined at 500-600 0 C for 3-5 h, using a heating ramp of 2 ° C / min to obtain gamma-alumina (E).
- the calcined support was impregnated with the goal! active using the sequential impregnation method (F) using typical group IV metals in the first instance and group VIIIB subsequently as promoters.
- the catalysts were dried at room temperature to 120 0 C for 12 h and finally calcined at 45O 0 C for 4 h (G).
- the catalysts prepared with this method by varying the composition of the support and its physicochemical properties are presented in Table 1.
- step (H) the reactor is charged with 10 mL of catalyst together with 10 mL of inert material (SiC).
- step (I) corresponds to the tightness test of the equipment at a pressure 10% higher than that used during the normal operation to detect any possible leakage in the experimental equipment.
- step (J) represents the sulfhydration of the catalyst, carried out with diesel from atmospheric distillation of petroleum (SRGO) to which 2% sulfur weight (DMDS + SRGO) is added.
- SRGO atmospheric distillation of petroleum
- DMDS + SRGO sulfur weight
- the feed to the reactor consists of a 50/50% weight mixture of heavy crude oil and hydrodesulfurized diesel.
- the operating conditions in stage (K) are the following: temperature of 380 0 C, pressure of 5.4 MPa, ratio hydrogen / hydrocarbon 356 m 3 / m 3 and LHSV 1.0 h "1 .
- step (L) the reaction is carried out for 120 h and at this time the products are sampled every 12 h.
- step (M) the analysis of the reactor products is carried out.
- a hydroprocessing catalyst containing the reference aluminas of Table 1 was prepared by the following procedure. 50 dry parts of catapal alumina C1 (Catapal C1 manufactured by Condea) and 50 parts of pseudoboehmite alumina (Catapal 200 manufactured by Condea) mixed very well in equal proportion considering 25% humidity in both samples. For mixing, diluted HNO 3 and sufficient amount of deionized water were added to form a paste that could be extruded (3-5% weight of HNO 3 for the powder material). These weights correspond to 100% solids as a base. The paste was extruded in a 1/16 "cylinder and dried at 100-120 0 C overnight. The dried extrudates were calcined at 500-550 0 C for 4 h purging excess air to obtain gamma support alumina and subsequently cooled to room temperature.
- the impregnation of Co and Mo was done using a solution containing ammonium heptamolybdate and cobalt nitrate to achieve loads of 2.2% weight of CoO and 10% weight of MoO 3 in the final catalyst.
- the total volume of the solution was equal to the volume of water that is capable of filling the pores of the extruded sample (incipient wetting method).
- the solution containing the metals was added to the support extrudates gradually while stirring. When the addition of the solution was completed, the wet extrudates were allowed to stand overnight. Subsequently the extrudates were dried at 120 ° C for 12 h. The dried extrudates were calcined at 450 ° C for 4 h purging the excess air and cooling to room temperature.
- This catalyst was called Catalyst 1 (Cat-1) and its physical properties are summarized in Table 1 where it is observed that the catalyst contains mesoporos.
- the catalyst of the present invention was loaded into the reactor and was used as a hydrodemetalization catalyst in the first stage.
- the run was carried out in a bank-scale unit consisting of automatic controls to regulate the pressure, reagent flow and temperature.
- the specifications of the reactor are reported in Table 3.
- the reactor temperatures were controlled at different heights both outside and inside the thermowell that extends along the center of the reactor.

Description

enfriando a temperatura ambiente.
