Abstract

The invention provides a process for the production of substitute solid fuel for coal which can be used in conventional coal fired equipment by using kitchen waste containing common salt or the like or chlorine-containing various combustible wastes such as PVC as recycled material; and equipment for the production of the same. The process comprises carbonizing domestic kitchen waste containing common salt or the like or chlorine-containing combustible wastes such as PVC either alone or together with chlorine-free combustible waste through pyrolysis, separating most of the chlorine-containing component from a carbonization product, removing chlorine remaining in the carbonization product in the form of an inorganic salt by washing the carbonization product with water to dissolve the salt in water, and mixing the resulting carbonization product having an extremely low chlorine content with substantially chlorine-free waste plastics at a suitable mixing ratio to produce a solid fuel having a desired heat value.
