Abstract

A process for producing a porous photocatalyst body, comprising at least preparing a porous silica glass support with interconnected pores and conducting treatment for providing the surface of the porous silica glass support with a photocatalyst material coating. Further, there is disclosed a porous photocatalyst body comprising at least a porous silica glass support with interconnected pores and, superimposed on the surface of the porous silica glass support, a photocatalyst material coating. Still further, there is disclosed a purification apparatus comprising at least a reactor, the porous photocatalyst body housed in the reactor and an ultraviolet ray lamp so that a treatment object is passed through the porous photocatalyst body while irradiating the porous photocatalyst body with ultraviolet rays by means of the ultraviolet ray lamp to thereby attain purification of the treatment object by photocatalytic action. Accordingly, there is provided a photocatalyst body not only having high chemical stability and mechanical strength but also being capable of efficient exertion of photocatalytic action. Further, there is provided a process for producing the photocatalyst body and provided a purification apparatus utilizing the photocatalyst body.
