Abstract

Das Katalysatorelement, z. B. ein Wabenkörper zur Reinigung von Abgasen einer Brennkraftmaschine, dessen Wände (34) mit einer katalytisch aktiven Beschichtung versehen sind, wobei eine katalytische Beschichtung in axialer und/oder radialer Richtung ungleich über das Katalysatorelement (18) verteilt ist. In Längsrichtung können verschiedene Segmente (36, 40, 44) vorliegen, die unterschiedliche Beschichtungen aufweisen, mit fliessendem, gestuftem oder abruptem Übergang. Die katalytische Beschichtung kann aus allen Metalloxiden und Edelmetall bestehen. Das Herstellungsverfahren zur partiellen Beschichtung des Katalysatorelements (18) sieht vor, dass bereichsweise auf die Wände (31) des Katalysatorelements (18) eine temporäre Schicht (34) aufgebracht wird, dass das Katalysatorelement (18) mindestens bereichsweise mit mindestens einer dauerhaften katalytisch aktiven Beschichtung (38) versehen wird, und dass die temporäre Schicht (34) anschliessend entfernt wird. Die temporäre Schicht kann aus hydrophobierenden Substraten bestehend aus Silanen, Siloxanen, Lacken, Ölen, Wachsen, Fettalkoholen, mit hydrophobierenden Gruppen funktionalisierten Polymeren, insbesondere Polyacrylaten, Polystyrolen, Polyacrylaminaden, Polyrinylpyrrolidonen, Polymaleaten, Polyacrylamiden, Polymeren auf Epoxidbasis bestehen und durch Eintauchen aufgebracht werden.
