Description
Device in connection with a ramp or any other covering element
The present invention relates to a device at a turnably mounted ramp or another turnably mounted covering element at an opening and which is actuatable by a number of fluid piston cylinder jacks to be turned between a turned-out opened position and a turned-up closed position. Usually, the turning motions of the ramp are controlled by means of a jack situated on each side of the ramp in the form of a hydraulic cylinder. The dimensions of said driving cylinders are important as for ramps on greater vessels, which mean that the total width of ramp having the appur- tenant laterally positioned driving cylinders becomes great.
There is often a lack of space at the side of the ramps, which are desired to make as wide as the width of the vessel allows. In order to manage to turn the heavy ramps, one unfortunately has to choose great driving cylinders having great dimensions, not at least on that occasion laterally.
A thought is then to instead of one single great driving cylinder besides the ramp be able to split up the driving on a plurality of smaller driving cylinders. It is known by, for instance, JP 2003343512 to arrange laterally situated double hydraulic cylinders to drive ropes, which in turn are arranged to actuate a ramp to be able to writhe around a vertical pivot joint. However, nothing is mentioned of how to proceed to solve the driving arrangement to obtain a complete driving . Therefore, the main object of the present invention is primarily to by simple and efficiently working means be able to solve said problems, especially at a turnably
mounted ramp for a vessel but also other covering elements on board a vessel or on other vehicles or ashore.
Said object is attained by means of a device according to the present invention, which in all essentials is characterized in that pair-wise fluid piston cylinder jacks are mounted on each side of said ramp/covering element and having mounting attachments displaced from each other as seen along the turning plane of the jacks and actuatable to turn the ramp/covering element exceeding 90° between a vertical end po- sition and a turned-down end position.
The present invention is described below in the form of a preferred embodiment example, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which
Figs. 1-4 show examples of the invention, Fig. 1 showing a ramp in turned-out driving position,
Fig. 2 showing the ramp elevated to an intermediate position,
Fig. 3 showing the ramp elevated to a closed stowing position,
Fig. 4 showing a top view of a side part of the ramp and having laterally positioned pairs of hydraulic cylinders, and
Figs. 5-9 show examples of known drivings for different vessel ramps, and having the ramps turned to closed and open, respectively, positions.
The invention relates to a ramp, which is manoeuvred by jacks in the form of two hydraulic cylinders per ramp side. Till now, especially stern, side and bow ramps have been manoeuvred by one hydraulic cylinder per side or by winch/jigger winch and rope sheaves and wires placed on upper deck/lower deck.
Advantages of a "Dual cylinder arrangement ":
- Increased instantaneous spectra thanks to separated attachments of the hydraulic cylinders.
- The hydraulic cylinders should be of the same length and dimension for simple spare part handling. It gives fewer draw- ings to handle, the same accessories and thereby lower costs .
- Decreased space requirement laterally of the ramp in comparison with single cylinder arrangements . Because the driveway width of the ramp now corresponds to the entire width of the hold, there is a lack of space for housing the actuating cylinders.
- Lower cost for the manufacture of cylinders in standard dimensions in comparison with extremely great cylinder dimensions. It has turned out over the years that the ramps be- come wider and thereby heavier and heavier. This leads to the fact that the cylinder dimensions increase to dimensions rarely occurring in the production and on the market, and thereby results in high prices.
A device 1 at a ramp 3 preferably turnably mounted around a horizontal mounting shaft 2 or another turnably mounted covering element on board a vessel 4, another vehicle or ashore at an opening 5, which can be exposed and closed, respectively, thereby, is shown as example in fig. 1. A said ramp 3 or covering element is actuatable by a number of fluid piston cylinder jacks 6, 7 to be turned between a turned-out opened position I and a turned-up closed position II the opening 5. See fig.l and fig. 3, respectively. In open position, it is enabled for vehicles and persons to drive and walk, respectively, between land 8 and the vessel 4 and the thereof cargo deck 9 via the ramp 3 above water 10.
According to the present invention, there are pair-wise fluid piston cylinder jacks 6, 7 or more mounted on each side 11 of said ramp/covering element 3. In that connec-
tion, the mounting attachments 12, 13 and 14, 15, respectively, of said jacks are displaced from each other as seen along the turning plane 16 thereof.
The double pairs of jacks 6, 7 are arranged and dimensioned in such a way that they together are actuatable to turn the ramp/covering element 3 a distance S exceeding 90°, between a said vertical end position II and a turned-down downward leaning end position I.
Jacks in the form of pair-wise hydraulic cylin- ders 6, 7 are mounted in line with each other at mutual distance A, B from each other and with one of the jacks 6 situated obliquely above the other jack 7, substantially parallel to each other.
One of the hydraulic cylinders 6 in the respec- tive pair of jacks 6, 7 is mounted closest to said opening 5 by the fixed mounting 14 thereof and closest to the outer end 3A of the ramp by the ramp mounting 12 thereof. Preferably, the two hydraulic cylinders 6, 7 in the respective pair on each side 11, 11 of the ramp/covering element 3 are mounted at sub- stantially equal distance B and A, respectively, from each other at the fixed mountings 14, 15 thereof and at the ramp mountings 12, 13 thereof, respectively, as seen along the length extension 17 of the ramp and of the appurtenant vessel. The two hydraulic cylinders 6, 7 in the respective pair are in that connection mounted at closer distance from the mounting end 3B of the pivot joint 2 of the ramp/covering element than the outer free turnable end 3A thereof. In that connection, at least some one of said pivot mountings 12, 13 is connected movable to the ramp/covering element 3 along the length extension thereof. The connection is formed by a track along which steer- ings for one end of the respective hydraulic cylinder is mova- bly actuatable. However, this is not shown in the drawings. A number of stops are in that connection also arranged along said
track to in desired positions be able to stop the displacement of the hydraulic cylinders along the track.
Furthermore, the mountings 12, 13 and 14, 15, respectively, for the said hydraulic cylinders 6, 7 may be situated at substantially equal distance C, D, as seen from the ramp 3 and from the fixed mounting-carrying element 22 thereof, respectively, on projecting mounting fasteners 18, 19, 20, 21 therefor. The ramp 3 having the appurtenant hydraulically driven hydraulic cylinders 6, 7 may freely be arranged at stem, at stern 23 and/or at side of a vessel 4 in question.
Maybe not so much force is gained in comparison with letting pair-wise hydraulic cylinders 6, 7 replace single hydraulic cylinders having one hydraulic cylinder 100 on each side of a ramp 3; 300 if it is estimated that in all essentials as much hydraulic fluid is used. What is gained is, in addition to safety and that it is possible to utilize significantly more inexpensive and lighter standard hydraulic cylinder with the same supply of spare parts, that it is possible to significantly save space at the sides of the ramp. Up to approx. 0,5 m in space saving has been calculated to be gained by arranging pair-wise hydraulic cylinders in longitudinal direction according to what has been indicated above and approx. 500 kg of weight saving.
The invention is naturally not limited to the embodiments described above and shown in the accompanying draw¬ ings. Modifications are feasible, particularly as for the nature of the different parts, or by usage of equivalent technique, without departing from the protection area of the invention, such as it is defined in the claims.
