Abstract

Disclosed is a circuit for operating a coil of an electrically liftable safety brake, to be connected to AC inputs having different (preferably single-phase) operating voltages. Said circuit comprises: a rectifier circuit which is connected to the input terminals and is used for generating a periodically changing direct voltage; output terminals for supplying the direct voltage generated by the rectifier to a coil; one or more electronic valves/switches for switching the direct current on or off anytime; preferably a freewheeling diode that is connected to the output terminals in order to keep the current flowing through the coil during the off-state interval of the electronic valve/switch; a control loop which is connected to the output terminals and measures the direct voltage applied to the coil or calculates or derives said direct voltage from other measured voltages (e.g. input voltage, voltage of the intermediate circuit, valve/switch voltage, etc.) and triggers the electronic valve/switch in such a way that the direct voltage applied to the coil remains constant; and a mechanical/electronic switch in the power supply to the coil in order to interrupt and quickly switch off the free-wheeling circuit.
