Abstract
The object is to provide a liquid crystal element which has a liquid crystal stably aligned vertically on a substrate having a fine concave-convex structure having a depth of 0.5 μm on its surface, even when a blue laser beam and an alignment film produced by oblique deposition and having durability are employed. A liquid crystal element (10) is produced by: forming an alignment film of an inorganic oxide on the surface of electrodes (13, 14) arranged on substrates (11, 12), respectively, by oblique deposition; treating the surface of the alignment film with a fluorosilane coupling agent such as CF3(CF2)7-CH2CH2-SiCl3; sealing the periphery of the two substrates (11, 12) with a seal (15); and filling a liquid crystal in the space formed by the sealing.
