Abstract

Disclosed is a method for producing a halogenated aromatic compound, which is characterized in that an aromatic compound wherein one or more substituents and two or more hydrogen atoms are attached to a nucleus and an N-iodine bond type or N-bromine bond type halogenating agent are reacted in an organic solvent in the presence of an acid, or alternatively characterized in that a solvent poorly dissolving a reaction product is mixed into a reaction liquid which is obtained by reacting the aromatic compound and iodine monochloride in an organic solvent, and then the organic solvent is removed therefrom. This method for producing a halogenated aromatic compound has high position selectivity and is suitable for commercial production.
