Abstract

A communication apparatus wherein codec capabilities are individually established for uplink and downlink channels, thereby preventing any unnecessarily low codec capability from being established for each of the uplink and downlink channels and further preventing the audio or video quality from being degraded. In this apparatus, a condition selecting part (201) accepts a selection of a condition for establishing a codec capability. A codec establishing part (202) establishes the uplink and downlink codec capabilities individually. An uplink codec processing part (203) uses the established uplink codec capability to encode an uplink packet data. A downlink codec processing part (204) uses the established downlink codec capability to decode a downlink packet data. A call control processing part (205) performs a call control.
