Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method of nematocidal treatment of plants, such as horticultural plants, in particular fruits or vegetables.
- Plant parasitic nematodes belong to two orders, Dorylaimida and Tylenchida. Root nematodes - the whole cycle of which occurs in the soil, some being mobile at all stages, external parasites (Tylenchus) or internal (Pratylenchus), others sedentary: nematodes with cysts (Heterodera, Globodera) ; root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne, etc.); the nematodes of the aerial parts (Ditylenchus, Aphelenchoides).
- Plant-parasitic nematodes have, at the anterior part of the digestive tract, a perforating stylet followed by an esophageal canal terminating in a muscular bulb, a sucking and repressing pump. Once the plant is perforated by the stylet, digestive enzymes produced by the salivary glands are injected by this pump, which then sucks the product of digestion and pours it into the intestine.
- Direct damage is primarily a weakening of the plant, sometimes deformations, discolorations, galls, etc. ; indirect damage is the aggravation of fungal and virus diseases.
- Galls are abnormal tumors, excrescences, bushings, etc. of plants, produced in reaction to the bite or the installation within their tissues of the nematode (called a midge). Galls can affect all organs of the plant. Except in special cases (where galls are desired productions), their presence affects the vigor and the yield of the plant. In
- the main concernsdogenic insects are cedar mites, weevils, aphids, phylloxera, mites, phytopes, and in particular root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.). These are dangerous for many cultures.
- the male is filiform while the female, globose, measures approximately
- M. arena ⁇ a M. incognita
- M. javanica M. hapla
- M. hapla the latter being adapted to colder climates.
- M. naasi has a narrower host range and particularly attacks cereals.
- the larva When it leaves the egg, the larva moves in the water film that covers the soil particles and goes to the young roots. It pierces the cell wall with its stylet, penetrates the root, moves towards the conducting vessels and induces the formation of giant cells necessary for its growth. This results in the appearance of a characteristic gall that soon envelops it completely and obstructs the vessels conducting sap. After several moults, the larva becomes male or female. The male is released outside the root. The immobile female remains in the tissues and lays 1,000 to 2,000 eggs enclosed in a gelatinous gangue that keeps them together. These egg masses protrude from the surface of the young roots.
- Lecithins are mixtures of esters of oleic, stearic and palmitic acids with glycerophosphoric acid and choline.
- Lecithins are surfactants and emulsifiers of natural origin, commonly used. Lecithins are widely used as food, pharmaceutical or cosmetic additives. Nevertheless, their activity, especially nematocide, has never been suggested.
- the applicant has now developed a new treatment based on a combination of terpene (s) and lecithin (s).
- lecithins or their derivatives used to potentiate the nematicidal effect of terpenes while limiting the phytotoxic effect.
- the present invention relates to a process for the nematocidal treatment of plants, such as horticultural plants, in particular fruit or vegetable plants, comprising the application of a composition comprising a combination of lecithin and / or derivative (s) and one or more terpene (s) or a food-acceptable salt or a mixture thereof in a food oil.
- the nematocidal treatment according to the invention is particularly suitable for nematodes that attack the roots of plants, such as root-knot nematodes Meloidogyne spp.
- any terpene or any terpene-based essential oil is meant, said terpene being chosen in particular from citral, pinene, nerol, b-ionone, geraniol, carvacrol, eugenol, carvone, terpineol, anethole, camphor, menthol. , thymol, limonene, nerolidol, farnesol, linalool, phytol, p-menthan-1, 8-diol, citronellol, carotene, and more mainly hydroxyl-functional terpenes.
- the terpenes used have a vapor pressure of at least 0.1 mm of mercury, more preferably between 0.1 mm and 5 mm of mercury.
- eugenol As a particularly preferred terpene, mention may be made of eugenol, isoeugenol, their food-acceptable salts and their mixtures. It should be understood that, according to a more particularly preferred embodiment, clove oil is used as the active principle, the latter containing from 70% to 90% of eugenol.
- lecithins and / or derivatives is understood to mean one or more compounds chosen from phosphatidylcholine derivatives and / or its derivatives, such as phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylethanolamine and / or phosphatidic acid, and or mixtures thereof having two fatty acids, such as distearyl, dipalmityl and / or dioleyl phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylethanolamine and / or phosphatidic acid, and / or mixtures thereof.
- soy lecithin comprising about a third of soybean oil for about two thirds of lecithin.
- lecithins when used as additives, such as, for example, emulsifiers or surfactants, lecithins are generally present at low concentrations, such as between 1% and 5%. According to the invention, the lecithins may be present up to 40% by weight in the combinations according to the invention.
- compositions according to the invention are advantageously formulated in a food vegetable oil base.
- the oil base has been found to solubilize the treating compositions in a remarkable manner.
- any food-acceptable oil such as rapeseed, soybean, sunflower or peanut oil in particular.
- phytotoxicity any attack on fruits and vegetables, resulting from the direct action of the active ingredient, for example terpenes, illustrated by the modification of the visual appearance of said fruits and vegetables or their leaves.
- phytotoxicity denotes the direct alteration by said active ingredient of the skin integrity of said fruits and vegetables, in particular by changing the color or texture of their skin. More particularly, the phytotoxicity can be illustrated by a yellowish homogeneous coloration, a red pigmentation, the formation of yellow or brown spots or areas of necrosis, point or extended, or the formation of microlesions on the skin.
- micro-lesions then constitute a fertile ground for molds or rotten fruits and vegetables.
- said phytotoxicity defined above results directly from the action of the active ingredient and therefore excludes natural phenomena of aging, such as senescence in particular.
- nematocide refers to any treatment that prevents future infestation or the eradication of an existing nematode infestation.
- said terpene (s) is chosen from eugenol, isoeugenol or clove oil, one of their food-acceptable salts or mixtures thereof.
- the said terpene (s) is eugenol.
- said composition is such that the ratio by weight (lecithin (s) and / or soya derivative (s)) / (terpene (s)) is between 0.5 and 5, preferably between 1, 5 and 3.
- composition comprises an oil base.
- said oil is rapeseed, sunflower or peanut oil.
- said composition further comprises one or more agent (s) surfactant (s).
- the said surfactant agent (s) is chosen from nonionic surfactants.
- the said surfactant agent (s) is chosen from ethoxylated fatty acids.
- terpene (s) from 3 to 30%, preferably from 15 to 20%
- composition further comprises from 3 to 40% of surfactant (s).
- surfactant s
- said process comprises the application of 0.1 to 2OL of eugenol or clove oil, more preferably from 1 to 5L, per 1000 m 2 of floor area.
- composition is applied by spraying, spraying or spreading.
- composition is applied in one or more times during the period between sowing and ripening fruit or vegetables.
- the surfactants preferably used in the context of the invention are nonionic surfactants.
- C2-C3 may be ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, or a mixture of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide in any proportions.
- An example of such surfactants is the condensation product of oleic acid with 30 moles of ethylene oxide.
- the mixture b) may comprise a second surfactant, said second surfactant being less hydrophilic than the surfactant of the mixture a).
- Said surfactant of the mixture a) may advantageously be an ethoxylated fatty acid comprising between 7 and 15 moles of alkylene oxide.
- kits comprise: Mixture a): from 3 to 30% of terpene (s); from 2 to 30% of a surfactant;
- the lecithin (s) and / or derivatives and the terpene (s) can be applied simultaneously, separately or in a manner spread over time.
- the lecithins (s) and / or derivatives can therefore be formulated alone or in admixture with one or more terpene (s), in the compositions according to the invention.
- the treating compositions are conventionally prepared per se by simple mixing of their constituents.
- the mixture of terpene (s) and lecithin (s) and / or derivatives may be unstable.
