Abstract

A vane pump in which a rotor is mounted off-center inside a pumping chamber of a casing, and multiple vanes or blades are positioned around an eccentric axis of the rotor to be free to slide radially. The rotor is made therein with multiple slots that extend radially to open at a periphery of the rotor. The vanes are each accommodated in the slots. The rotor is made with a circular flange extending radially beyond the open ends of the slots to provide an extended support surface on which the vanes are carried for freely sliding movement. A ring having an axis parallel with the eccentric axis is placed in a way overlapping with the flange to completely cover a sliding stroke of the vane in the radial direction of the rotor, thereby freeing the outer ends of the vanes from circumferential frictional force caused by revolution of the rotor, making sure of smooth sliding of vanes in radial direction.
