  • the apex locator determines whether the second working tip of the dental instrument has reached a predetermined distance from the apex of the root canal. If so then the method proceeds with step 132; otherwise the dental instrument is inserted further into the root canal, as shown at step 130, and the method then returns to step 124.
  • an electric pulse is transmitted via the dental instrument, thereby sterilizing the root canal.
  • the present embodiments thus provide a method 100 which is relatively simple to carry out, and may achieve substantially 99% sterilization of a dental root canal, as compared with as little as 50% effectiveness, using known methods.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un système de stérilisation d'un canal radiculaire dentaire, qui comprend: un localisateur (12) électronique d'apex configuré pour déterminer l'apex du canal radiculaire; et un instrument dentaire (14), qui communique des données avec le localisateur électronique d'apex et comporte une pointe de travail (14), ladite pointe étant conçue pour être insérée dans le canal radiculaire (20). L'instrument dentaire communique avec une unité de stérilisation (18) conçue pour transmettre automatiquement une impulsion électrique, par l'intermédiaire de la pointe de travail, dans le canal radiculaire, l'impulsion électrique étant choisie en vue de stériliser ledit canal.
