  • the insert is formed from a recyclable material, such as a paper material, for example, the insert may be formed from molded paper pulp.
  • the rear portion extends higher than the front portion in the folded configuration.
  • the tubes are generally cylindrical and may have a tapered lower end.
  • the hinge means may comprise a thinning of material.
  • the rear portion may be generally square.
  • the front portion may be generally rectangular.
  • the front and rear portion may comprise one or more recess sections which, when in a folded configuration combine to define the one or more tube .
  • the front and rear portions are folded together such that inner faces thereof abut one another .
  • the insert may comprise connecting means operable to connect the front portion to the rear portion thereby retaining the two in a folded configuration.
  • a cigarette container assembly comprising a container, in which is an insert, the insert comprising a rear portion hinge ably connected via hinge means to a front portion, which front and rear portions define one or more tube into which cigarettes may be extinguished and stored when the insert is in a folded configuration.

  • FIG. 1 there is shown a blank of a container 102 of the present invention.
  • the blank comprises a front section 104 a rear section 106 and a lid section 108.
  • the rear section 106 is generally square in shape and the front section 104 is similarly sized square, but has a cut away portion 110 from an upper edge thereof.
  • the front section 104 and the rear section 106 are joined by a rectangular side section 112.
  • At an opposite side of the rear section 106 to the side section 112 is a further similarly shaped and sized side section.
  • Extending from lower edges of the front face 104 and the rear face 106 are lower faces 116, 118 respectively and extending from lower edges of the side sections 112, 114 are tabs 120 and 122 respectively. Extending from a longitudinal side edge of the side portion 114 distal to the rear face 106, is a tab section 124. Extending from upper an edge of the rear face 106 is the lid section 108.
  • the lid section 108 is divided into a rectangular cover portion 126 and a generally rectangular flap portion 128. Between the cover portion 126 and the side sections 112, 114 are generally square shaped wing portions 130.
  • the flap portion 128 comprises a tab 132, while the front section 104 comprises a slotted aperture 134 toward an upper region thereof.
  • FIG 2 there is shown the container 102 in an assembled configuration whereby the blank of figure 1 has been folded along the score lines (marked with dash lines on figure 1) and the container glued in place.
  • the tab 124 has been glued onto a rear face of the front section 104
  • the tabs 120 and 122 have been folded upwards and overlapped by tabs 118 and 116 which have been glued in place to form a base of the container 102.
  • the container of figure 2 contains 5 cigarette extinguishing portions 202, each being cardboard/paper tubes that extend from the base of the container 102 up toward the opening of the container 102. Ease of access to the contents of the container 102 is heightened by the cut away portion 110.
  • a user In use, a user, having finished a cigarette, places the cigarette in the cardboard tube 202 and closes the lid portion 108 by inserting the tab 132 into the slotted aperture 134.
  • the container is then generally air tight (by virtue of the gluing procedure and the wings 130) and therefore the cigarette is starved of oxygen and thereby extinguishes within the cigarette extinguishing portion (the tube 202) .
  • a container made in accordance with the present invention provides a portable easy way to extinguish and store used cigarettes. Furthermore, the container is formed from a biodegradable material, thus providing a lower risk to the environment. Finally, when the container is full, it is possible to empty the cigarette portions and re-use the container.
  • the container 102 may contain a single tube 202.
  • a user when a user has finished their cigarette, it is placed in the tube 202 and the lid 108 closed. The cigarette then extinguishes by being starved of oxygen. When extinguished, a user may then remove the cigarette from the tube 202 and place into the main body of the container. In this manner, a user may be able to store many extinguished cigarettes in the main body of the container.
  • the container may have a heat-proof lining, such as clay, for example.

  • each of the back section 304 and the front section 306 comprise five half round recesses 310 which, when folded together (as discussed below in relation to figure 4), define five tubes.
  • the recesses are tapered toward a bottom end 312 thereof so that the internal volume of the tubes 310 in the folded configuration are generally bullet shaped (cylindrical having a tapered end) .
  • the male closing portion 314 comprises a rib along the side edges of the back portion 304
  • the female closing portion 316 comprises a hook along the side edges of the front portion 306.
  • the hook 316 is operable to accommodate the rib 314 to provide a closely fitting folded unit as shown in figure 4.
  • the front portion 306 is shorter than the back portion 304, that is, the back section 304 extends higher than the front section 306.
  • the back portion 304 tapers slightly toward a lower end thereof (the end closest to the hinge 308) .
  • the insert 302 is molded from a paper pulp material.
  • the insert 302 is inserted into the container 102 and may be used to extinguish and store cigarettes.
  • the insert 302 is removable and reusable.
  • a small rectangular recess section 318 On a face of the front portion 306 opposite the recesses 310 is a small rectangular recess section 318. This recess allows movement of the tab 132 into the slot 134.
  • the slight taper in the back portion 304 allows the insert 302 to be easily inserted and removed from the container 102 without interfering with the folding mechanism at the bottom of the container.
  • the back portion 304 extends higher than the front portion 306 as discussed above. This feature allows a cigarette to be easily inserted into the tube 310 by locating the end of a cigarette into the recess on the back section 304 and sliding down the tube.
  • An insert made in accordance with the present invention allows a user to easily insert a cigarette thereinto. Also, the insert is formed from a pulp paper material so it is readily recyclable.
  • the insert 302 described above may be used with an alternative container.
