Abstract

 斜め方向のコントラスト比が高く、光抜けが少なく、斜め方向のカラーシフトが小さく、極めて薄型の、液晶パネルおよび液晶表示装置を提供すること。  本発明の液晶パネルは、液晶セルと、液晶セルの一方の側に配置された第1の偏光子と光学素子(A)と光学素子(B)と、液晶セルの他方の側に配置された第2の偏光子とを備え、光学素子(A)が、nx>nz>nyの屈折率楕円体を示し、特定の多環式化合物から形成され、Nz係数が0.05~0.45であり、光学素子(B)が、nx>nz>nyの屈折率楕円体を示し、Nz係数が0.55~0.95である。
