Abstract

 第1および第2副画素電極を有する画素と、第1副画素電極と補助容量を形成する第1補助容量配線と、第2副画素電極と補助容量を形成する第2補助容量配線とを備え、上記第1および第2補助容量配線それぞれの電位が、周期的に極性反転するように制御される液晶表示装置であって、上記走査信号線の走査終了後における第1補助容量配線の最初の極性反転と第2補助容量配線の最初の極性反転とが互いに逆向きとされるとともに、次の走査までの上記第1および第2補助容量配線がともに極性反転しない期間(黒信号挿入期間)に、上記データ信号線から上記第1および第2副画素電極に黒表示に相当する電位が複数回書き込まれる。こうすれば、補助容量配線の電位を制御する画素分割型の液晶表示装置で黒挿入を行う場合に、横筋の発生を抑えることができる。
