Abstract

 光増幅器1は、入力光を増幅するための第1の光増幅部10と、この第1の光増幅部10の出力を減衰する可変光減衰部20と、この可変光減衰部20の出力を増幅する第2の光増幅部30と、可変光減衰部20による損失量を制御する損失量制御部51と、を備え、可変光減衰部20及び第2の光増幅部30の間に外部減衰光媒体22が挿入される。損失量制御部51は、可変光減衰部20による損失量を制御することにより外部減衰光媒体22の光損失の変動を補償する。光増幅器1は、外部減衰光媒体22と第2の光増幅部30との間で検出される光レベルによって第1及び第2の光増幅部(10、30)の間における光損失の異常を検出する異常検出部(61、62)と、可変光減衰部20と外部減衰光媒体22との間で検出される光レベルが所定閾値レベルより低いとき、異常検出部(61、62)による異常検出を無効にする検出無効化部(71、72)と、を備える。
