Abstract

This invention provides a method for manufacturing a tool steel, comprising a hot working step of heating a tool steel material containing C: 0.10 to 2.0% to 1050 to 1250ºC for hot working of the tool steel material, a cooling step of, after the completion of the hot working step, cooling the hot worked tool steel material to a surface temperature of 500 to 700ºC at a cooling rate equal to or higher than an air cooling rate, a first heating/holding step of, after the hot working and cooling steps, introducing the tool steel material into a heating furnace and heating and holding the temperature at 400 to 700ºC, a second heating/holding step of, subsequent to the first heating/holding step, heating the tool steel material to raise the tool steel material temperature to a temperature range between the pearlite nose and a temperature 100ºC below the pearlite nose and then heating and holding the tool steel material in this temperature range, a step of, after the second heating/holding step, cooling the tool steel material to prepare a tool steel intermediate material having a metal structure comprising a carbide precipitated in a ferritic structure, and a step of then quenching and tempering the tool steel intermediate material.
