Abstract

The invention relates to innovation of rail for railway locomotion to avoid the tilting effect of the rail during installation. The area shown between the line (9) and (7) in figure 6 of the rail to be added to the rail head or the extended profile shown as (11 ) in figure 6 on the top of the said head to be revised. Thus the base of the rail (10) figure 6 can be maintained with ordinary base plates and concrete sleepers of flat surface without any canted special seat.

Description

CANTED RAIL FOR RAILWAY LOCOMOTION
Field of the Invention
The invention relates to the rail for railway. In particular, the invention relates to innovation in railway locomotion to achieve the canted effect for the rails without being canted bf additional arrangements.
Background Art
All these years, all over the world the successful performance of the railway system was owing to the function of rail and wheel. The latest technology derived from many years of experiments, gradually became very cumbersome for applications through out the system for various reasons. Many of the previous systems are still in practice to make the performance effective and efficient. In the current system, the rolling stock is carried by two rails fixed on a concrete sleeper. By close observation, it can be found that the rails are fixed inclined on the concrete sleepers making two special inclined seats. In another system, the inclination is also provided with the help of canted base plates on wooden sleepers. There are many types of canted base plates for providing the inclination which also varies from country to country. Where the base plates are not provided, the timber sleepers will be cut to the proper slope called 'adzing" to make such inclined seat for the rail. All these efforts, care and extra cost are required to achieve an effective and technically advanced locomotion for the maximum safety and comfort.
Summary of the Invention
It is an object of invention to provide a useful alternative rail structure which will save tremendous care and cost without affecting the efficiency and effectiveness. It can be observed that while the rail is in vertical position, the contact of the rail head is not effective as in the inclined position. Therefore, this invention is created to overcome the deficiencies in the current system. To get the effect of the inclined position, an extended profile is to be added to the head of the rail in the vertical position.
Brief Description of the Drawings
Figure 1 illustrates the profile of a 8OA rail section.
Figure 2 illustrates the track assembly of the modern system.
Figure 3 illustrates the method of fixing the rail in an inclined position on a timber sleeper using canted base plate. Figure 4 illustrates the tilting effect of the rail in comparison to vertical position. Figure 5 illustrate the invention with the extended profile on the top of the rail head Figure 6 illustrates the enlarged size of the canted rail section.
Detailed Description of the Drawings
Figure 1 Shows the full size cross section of an 8OA rail.
Figure 2 Shows the track assembly of the modern system. The rails marked (1 ) are fixed on concrete sleeper (2) on specially designed inclined seat to support- the wheel set (3). The inclined position of the rail head is well established with the flange of the wheel (4). This application is in practice from the time of timber sleepers. But the method was different in the case of concrete sleepers. Figure 3 Shows a method of fixing the rail in an inclined position on a timber sleeper using canted base plate. The level part (5) of the canted base plate is in contact with the timber sleeper. The inclined surface (6) of the base plate is located on the top where the rail flange is seated. In this position it is noticeable how the rail head (7) is in contact with the wheel profile (8). To get this suitable contact between the rail and the wheel many types of canted base plates are in use. In the absence of base plates the timber sleeper itself will be cut to the required slope. Figure 4 Shows where the innovative ideas start. Keeping the wheel flange (8) in the same position, the inclined profile of rail head (9) is shown dotted in contact with the wheel flange (8). Maintaining the common contact points of the rail and wheel between (9) & (8), the rail profile is superimposed in firm line at a vertical position without any inclination. The corresponding base of the rail in the vertical position (A) became (B) the position (C) became (D) and the rail head position (E) became (F). In this Figure 4 it is very clear to understand that a void between the wheel (8) and rail (7) while the rail is placed vertically is covered by the inclination. That shows the intention of the inclination is for a better contact for which all the troubles are being taken at all the time for all the expenses and care. The scope of the innovation is being applied at this juncture. To get the effect of inclination at the rail head without the rail being inclined, is to increase the functional area of the rail head exactly equal to the void formed due to the vertical position of the rail. The implementation method is shown in Figure 5.
Figure 5 Shows the final innovation and the implementation method. Rail is positioned exactly vertical maintaining the contact with the wheel flange (8). The normal rail is shown in the positions (A), (C) and (E). The required rail head profile to get the effect of inclination is shown dotted marked as (9). The void area between the original rail head (7) and proposed rail head (9) marked as (11 ) to be added to the original rail head. The extended profile (11 ) is preferably lesέ~than 2mm in height at the centre for the rail illustrated and the curvature of the profile can be the same as the original rail head at both sides and a lesser radius in the middle. The above measurements will vary as per the size of the rail head. This innovation is applicable to all types of rails. Thus the base of the rail
(10) can be maintained with ordinary base plates and concrete sleepers of flat surface without any canted special seat. Due to the coning of the wheel as shown in all the figures even with the inclined rail, the contact between the rail and wheel is cut short before the mid point of the rail head giving a full chance of making a symmetrical rail head in the innovation process as shown in Figure 5.
Figure 6 Shows the addition portion (1 1 ) to be extended on top of rail (7) to the limitation of line (9) the core of the innovation. To give a clear picture it is enlarged to one and a half times.

Claims

1. 2. The railway track system claim 1 wherein the curvature of lesser radius at the centre of the rail head is not exceeding about 2 mm from the original height for the profile of a 8OA rail section and varies accordingly to other rail sections.
