Definitions
- the invention relates to a filter for cleaning a particle-containing gas stream, in particular a soot-containing exhaust gas stream of an internal combustion engine.
- the invention further relates to a method for producing such a filter.
- Filter elements for particulate filters of diesel engines and the support structures of catalysts of internal combustion engines are often made of magnesium-aluminum silicates, preferably cordierite.
- Pure magnesium aluminum silicate, preferably cordierite has a very low thermal expansion coefficient and thus has good resistance to sudden temperature changes (thermal shocks).
- temperatures of over 1000 ° C may occur because the regeneration of soot is exothermic. Since the soot distribution within the filter element is not homogeneous and, in addition, the possibilities of heat removal are locally different, local temperature differences arise in the filter element during the regeneration.
- particulate filters made of magnesium-aluminum silicates is limited, inter alia, by the fact that the magnesium-aluminum silicate with the alkalis contained in the exhaust gas, especially sodium and potassium, or alkaline earths, reacts. This reaction produces additional phases, such as nepheline, which have a higher thermal expansion coefficient than magnesium aluminum silicate. As a result, due to the local temperature differences in the filter element thermal stresses that can lead to cracks in the filter element and thus to its destruction. Disclosure of the invention
- a filter substrate made of ceramic is accommodated in a housing.
- all free surfaces of the filter substrate are provided with a coating.
- foreign ions such as alkali or alkaline earth metal ions
- the mechanical and thermochemical strength of the filter material is increased.
- the filter substrate is preferably a magnesium-aluminum-silicate, in particular cordierite.
- the coating material is preferably selected from a metal oxide or a mixed metal oxide of an element of the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th subgroup, an aluminosilicate, a borosilicate, a magnesium silicate, a lithium aluminosilicate and an oxide of lanthanum or a lanthanoid.
- the coating material is a perovskite of the structure ABO 3 , Ai- X A ' X BO 3 , ABi y B' y O 3 or Aix x ' x Bi- y B' y O 3 .
- the value for x and y is between 0 and 1, and any value in this range can be assumed.
- A is selected from Sr 2+ , Ba 2+ or Ca 2+ or an ion of a rare earth metal, in particular La 3+ , Ce 3+ , Pr 3+ , Nd 3+ , Sm 3+ , Eu 3+ , Gd 3+ , Y 3+ , Ga 3+ or Nb 3+ .
- B is selected from Ti 2+ , Ti 4+ , Cr 4+ , Hf 4+ , Sn 4+ , Ce 3+ , Ce 4+ , Mn 3+ , Mn 4+ , Fe 3+ , Co 3+ and Al 3 + .
- a ' is selected from Ca 2+ , Sr 2+ , Ba 2+ , La 2+ , Ce 3+ , Ce 4+ , Pr 3+ and Nd 3+ , in particular Sr 2+ , Ba 2+ and Ca 2 + .
- B ' is selected from Zr 4+ , Al 3+ , Sc 3+ , V 4+ , Cr 3+ , Mn 3+ , Mn 4+ , Fe 3+ , Co 2+ , Co 3+ , Gd 3+ , Hf 4+ , Al 3+ or Ni 2+ .
- the coating material is a spinel of structure AB 2 O 4 , wherein
- A is selected from Mg 2+ , Cr 2+ , Mn 2+ , Fe 2+ , Co 2+ , Ni 2+ , Cu 2+ , Zn 2+ , Sn 2+ , Sn 4+ or V 4+ and
- B is selected from Al 3+ , In 3+ , Ti 3+ , Mn 3+ , Fe 2+ , Fe 3+ , Co 2+ , Co 3+ , Mg 2+ or Zn 4+ .
- the advantage of the oxides of the lanthanides, the perovskites and the spinels is that they can serve as oxygen storage for catalytically assisted reactions.
- the coating material is a phosphate of the lanthanum and / or one or more lanthanides, an alkali zirconium phosphate, an alkaline earth zirconium phosphate or a mixture thereof.
- Preferred phosphates of the lanthanum and / or a lanthanoid are lanthanum phosphate, cerium phosphate, neodymium phosphate, samarium phosphate and gadolinium phosphate.
- Particularly preferred are alkali zirconium phosphates and Erdalkalizirkonphosphate and occurring in nature as monazite cerium phosphates. These have a similar low thermal expansion coefficient as the ceramic of the filter substrate.
- the Alkalizirkonphosphate and Erdalkalizirkonphosphate are not further attacked by these already contained in alkali or alkaline earth metal ions of these.
- the aluminosilicate, borosilicate or of the magnesium silicate may plug with one or more oxides of an element of the 4th to 6th sub-group, preferably ZrO 2, be doped.
- the proportion of the oxide with which the aluminosilicate, borosilicate or magnesium silicate is doped is at most 10% by weight.

Titel
