The invention relates to a printhead arrangement for an inkjet printer according to the features of patent claim 1.
Inkjet printers, in particular those for the printing of large-scale workpieces such as posters, labels, vehicle roofs, etc., include printheads, which are arranged on a guide perpendicular to the transport direction of the material to be printed movable. In order to keep the mass of the movable arranged printheads as small as possible, so that high accelerations can be achieved, the individual printheads process tanks with very low color volume. Nevertheless, in order to be able to print continuously over a long period of time, the process tanks reciprocated during printing are connected via flexible lines to stationary main tanks arranged stationarily on the printer, which have a large and, in addition, during pressing refillable amount of ink included. This arrangement works properly when the color pigments are soluble in the carrier liquid and remain dissolved, ie can not sediment. When printing the color "white" and other colors with insoluble, usually heavy pigments, the latter tend to sediment in the stationary main tanks. On the one hand, this leads to an uneven distribution of the pigments in the carrier liquid and thus also on the print material. With increased concentration of pigments due to deposits, the nozzles on the printheads may become clogged.
It is known to solve this problem by installing an agitator or vibrator in the main tank of white paint or generally in colors whose pigments are heavier than the four primary colors to prevent the pigments from sedimenting. This does not solve the sedimentation of the heavy pigments in the process tank and in the pipes.
An object of the invention is to supply inks with sedimenting pigments such a printhead that the sedimentation during operation of the inkjet printer is suppressed. Another object of the invention is, after the completion of the printing with special ink, such as ink with sedimenting pigments, paint, ink with inorganic Pigments, silver, gold, frits, or any color, the printhead and the ink lines with little effort and little loss of ink at the end of printing pressure with highly sedimenting pigments to clean quickly.
This object is achieved by a printhead assembly for an ink jet printer according to the features of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the invention are described in the dependent claims.
It is possible by the arrangement of the main tank for the color "white" immediately in the vicinity of the print head on the movable part of the printing unit by the continuous movements of the printing unit during printing without agitator and the like to suspend. The interchangeability of the main tank with one with cleaning fluid allows the process tank, printhead tubing and nozzles to be cleaned with the least possible loss of ink. With a pump between the main tank and the process tank, before the cleaning of the process tank, the ink containing heavy pigments can be pumped back into the main tank. The cleaning liquid may then substantially undiluted clean both the process tank and the lines to the process tank and from there to the nozzles and the nozzles themselves. The white printing module according to the invention, which contains components such as process tank, pumps, main tank and hoses, is small, lightweight and compact, so that it can be mounted directly on the print head. The main tank is located on the printhead assembly, causing the ink to shake constantly during printing, preventing the sedimentation of the pigments. The supply lines from the tank to the printing system are extremely short, so that little ink is lost when changing the ink.

In the case of the inkjet printer, only the printhead arrangement 1 is shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, which is arranged movably on a portal transversely to the transport direction of the material to be printed. Both the arrangement, the formation of the portal and the device for transporting the material to be printed are well known from the prior art. At the printhead assembly are each side of a UV dryer shown, which dry the ink applied immediately after the order. Between the two UV dryers the four print heads 5 are arranged for the four colors yellow (Y), magenta (M), cyan (C) and black (K). About the printheads 5 are the process tanks 7,9,11 and 13 for the corresponding inks. These units have a conventional structure and are therefore not described in detail. The process tanks 7,9,11,13 are connected by unspecified and not shown flexible lines in connection with main tanks, which can accommodate a multiple larger amount of ink and continuously supply them to the process tanks 7,9,11,13. The main tanks are stationary, ie they usually stand on the side of the printer and can be filled or replaced there at any time when the printer is in operation. At the side of the four color printheads 5, at least one further printhead, referred to below as the white printhead 15, is arranged. This in turn comprises a process tank 17, which is connected to the nozzles 41 via printhead hoses 39. In addition to the process tank 17 sits over the nozzles 41 serving as a main tank exchange tank 19th
The white print head 15 with the process tank 17 and the replacement tank 19 together form a white printing module 21. This will be described in detail below. The replacement tank 19 is detachable on the white printing module 21 attached and can be replaced with a cleaning tank, ie a tank of about the same configuration, which contains a cleaning liquid. The replacement tank 19 is provided at the top with a quick-release closure 23, which allows the exchange tank 19 to be connected via a first line 25 to a feed pump 27 and to a second line 29 to a reflux pump 31. Both pumps 27, 31 are arranged on the white printing module 21. From the feed pump 27, a third line 33 leads to the process tank 17 of the white pressure module 21. From the return flow pump 31, a fourth line 35 also leads to the process tank 17. Below the process tank 17, a distributor 37 is further arranged, from which in the present example four printhead hoses 39 are attached the four nozzles 41 are performed. Reference numeral 43 denotes a connection for compressed air nozzles on the process tank 7. A supply line for compressed air is not shown for the sake of clarity. With a sensor 45, the level in the replacement tank 19 can be determined.
Tinte mit sedimentierenden Pigmenten, Lack, Tinte mit anorganischen Pigmenten, Silber, Gold, Fritten, oder jede beliebige Farbe .The mode of operation and the handling of the white printing module 21 will be explained in more detail below. First, the exchange tank 19 is inserted with white ink in the white printing module 21 and clamped by suitable means. Of course, instead of white ink and another ink or a varnish, such as gold or Be filled with silver paint. Subsequently, the first line 25 and the second line 29 are connected to the change tank 19 with the Scϊmellspannverschluss 23. With the monitoring sensor 45 can be communicated to a controller, not shown, whether there is a sufficient amount of ink in the exchange tank 19. Subsequently, the process tank 17 is filled with the feed pump 27 via the third line 33 with white ink. With a short burst of compressed air via the compressed air connection 43, the ink from the process tank 17 is also pressed into the distributor 37 and then into the nozzles 41 via the printhead hoses 39. The white print head 15 is now ready to print for a filled special ink such as ink with sedimenting pigments, paint, ink with inorganic pigments, silver, gold, frits, or any color.
During the white printing, ink 27 is pumped from the replacement tank 19 into the process tank 17 under constant monitoring of the ink level in the process tank 17 with the feed pump 27. As a result of the constant reciprocating motion of the white head module 21, the replacement tank 19 is moved continuously, thus shaking the ink and preventing settling / sedimentation of the pigments. After completion of the white printing, which usually precedes the color printing and prepares a non-white printing substrate for the color printing, the white color removed from the white printing module 21 so as not to destroy the printheads / nozzles when not in use for a long time. For this purpose, the process tank 17 is pumped empty with the reflux pump 31 and the ink is conveyed back into the replacement tank 19. At the same time, the third line 33 is emptied. Now that the white ink has been pumped out of the system back into the exchange tank 19, this is replaced by a tank of cleaning liquid. Now, the filling of the printhead with cleaning liquid takes place in the same way as before the filling of the white printhead 15 is done with white ink. With compressed air, the cleaning fluid can be promoted in the system in the process tank 17. From there, the cleaning fluid passes through the nozzles 41 and rinses through them. The cleaning liquid remains in the white printing module 21 until there is again a need for white ink or another with insoluble pigments.
