Abstract

A sachet for storing and dispensing a fluent material, and an elongate precursor web for making such sachets, have a first layer 1 which seals over and around a line of weakness 20 at a mid-portion of a semi-rigid second layer 2. The line of weakness sequentially delineates inter-digitated fingers extending in opposite directions toward opposite edges of the second layer. In the sachet, the second layer is a middle layer and a third layer 3 is fixed to either the first or middle layers. The first and/or third layers may be flexible, and the periphery of the third layer may be sealed to the first or middle layer. When a compression force is applied between the opposite edges, the sachet flexes preferentially at the line of weakness, opening the middle layer at the line of weakness and moving the tips of the fingers away from the immediately surrounding portions of the middle layer to rupture the first layer to form an opening through which the contents of the sachet may be discharged.
