Abstract

L'invention concerne des éléments optiques à phase géométrique qui comprennent, comme moyens biréfringents, une matière de cristaux liquides présentant une orientation spatialement non homogène du directeur moléculaire, dans le plan orthogonal à la direction de propagation d'un faisceau de rayonnement d'entrée, ordonné selon un motif géométrique prédéterminé. L'invention concerne aussi un système optique pour produire des modes hélicoïdaux de propagation d'un faisceau de rayonnement optique, qui comprend un élément optique à phase géométrique orienté transversalement à la direction de propagation du faisceau, dont l'axe optique est orienté selon une relation géométrique prédéterminée permettant de transformer un faisceau de rayonnement d'entrée polarisé circulaire en mode hélicoïdal à l'aide d'un front d'onde dont le sens de rotation de la surface hélicoïdale est fonction du sens de rotation de la polarisation d'entrée; la commutation entre les différents ordres d'hélicité du faisceau de rayonnement émergeant de l'élément optique à phase géométrique est mise en oeuvre par la commutation de l'état de polarisation circulaire du rayonnement d'entrée.
