Abstract

 短時間の賦活で、高出力密度で長時間の発電が可能であり、また、発電時にキャリアガスの導入を不要にすることもでき、そのため発電システムのコンパクト化を一層容易に実現することのできる固体酸化物型電池を提供すること。アノード材料を有するアノード、カソード材料を有するカソード、及び、アノードとカソードとの間に配置されたイオン伝導性の固体酸化物を含む電解質、を少なくとも有する固体酸化物型電池であって、該アノード材料が複合金属酸化物又はサーメットを含み、賦活時に固体炭素を該アノード材料に担持させ、発電時にアノードにおいて、少なくとも下記反応式(1)及び(2)を利用して発電することを特徴とする固体酸化物型電池:   CO2+C → 2CO      (1)   CO+O2- → CO2+2e-  (2)

技術分野
[0001] 本発明は、賦活時に固体炭素をアノード材料に担持させ、発電時にその固体炭素 を用レ、て発電する固体酸化物型電池に関する。
背景技術
[0002] イオン伝導性の固体酸化物 (酸化物イオン伝導体)からなる電解質層(固体電解質 層)を力ソード(空気極)とアノード (燃料極)との間に配置した積層構造を有する固体 酸化物型電池(SOFC)は、第三世代の燃料電池として期待され、その開発が進ん でいる。

ある(例えば、下記特許文献 1参照)。
[0004] 固体酸化物型電池(SOFC)を用いた発電システムのコンパクト化を容易かつ確実 に図ることのできる構成を有する固体酸化物型電池及び固体酸化物型電池の運転 方法が提案された(特許文献 2参照)。すなわち、アノード内部で、炭素及び水素を 構成元素として少なくとも含む有機化合物の熱分解反応を進行させることにより得ら れる固体炭素を、固体の燃料 (還元剤)として発電に利用する固体酸化物型電池で ある。
[0005] 固体炭素は液体状の電極活物質 (還元剤)やガス状の電極活物質 (還元剤)に比 較してエネルギー密度が非常に高ぐ液体状やガス状の電極活物質をアノードに供 給するための装置構成が不要となり、アノードの側の装置構成を簡素化することがで きるという特徴がある。
[0006] しかしながら、上記の固体酸化物型電池は、固体炭素の生成 (賦活)に要する時間 が長ぐまた 1回の賦活による電荷移動量が小さぐ賦活後の発電は出力密度が小さ ぐ発電時間も短かった。更には、発電時に燃料極の生成物を外部に放出するため のキャリアガスの導入が必要であったため、コンパクト化において制限があった。 特許文献 1:特開平 9 129256号公報

発明の開示
発明が解決しょうとする課題
[0007] 本発明は上記背景技術に鑑みてなされたものであり、その課題は、短時間の賦活 で、高出力密度で長時間の発電が可能であり、また、発電時にキャリアガスの導入を 不要にすることができ、そのため発電システムのコンパクトィ匕を一層容易に実現する ことのできる固体酸化物型電池を提供することにある。特に、セルや周辺部材の劣化 を小さくしたり、熱自立を容易にするために運転温度の低温化、例えば 750°C以下 にすることが望まれる。
課題を解決するための手段
[0008] 本発明者は、上記の課題を解決すべく鋭意検討を重ねた結果、アノード内部で、 下記反応式(1)が進行することと、それにより生じた一酸化炭素が下記反応式 (2)に より発電に寄与することで、発電時に、「賦活時にアノードに担持された固体炭素」の 利用効率や出力密度が向上することを見出し本発明に到達した。

[0009] すなわち、本発明は、以下の構成を有する。
[0010] (1) 固体炭素が担持され、複合金属酸化物又はサーメットを含むアノード材料を有 するアノード、力ソード材料を有する力ソード、及び、アノードと力ソードとの間に配置 されたイオン伝導性の固体酸化物を含む電解質、を少なくとも有する固体酸化物型 電池における発電方法であって、アノード材料に担持された固体炭素を二酸化炭素 と反応させて気体の一酸化炭素に変換し、当該気体の一酸化炭素を酸化することに より発電することを特徴とする固体酸化物型電池の発電方法。
(2) 発電時に消費される一酸化炭素の 50モル%以上が、固体炭素と二酸化炭素と の反応により生じた一酸化炭素である上記(1)記載の発電方法。
(3) 電荷移動量の 50%以上が、固体炭素と二酸化炭素との反応により得られた一 酸化炭素の酸化に起因する、上記(1)または(2)に記載の発電方法。
(4) アノードの総面積を S (cm2)、 25°C1気圧でのアルゴンガスの流量を F (cm3/ 秒)としたとき、 F/Sの値が 3. 0 (cm/秒)となるように、 25°C1気圧のアルゴンガス をアノードに導入しながら発電した場合の電荷移動量を Ql、アルゴンガスをアノード に導入しないで発電した場合の電荷移動量を Q2としたとき、 [(Q2-Q1)/Q2] X 10 0が 50以上である上記(1)から (3)のレ、ずれかに記載の発電方法。
(5) 発電時に、反応生成ガスによる圧力上昇分以上はアノード外部に反応生成ガ スを放出させなレ、ことを特徴とする、上記(1)から (4)のレ、ずれかに記載の発電方法
(6) 発電時に、アノードにキャリアガスを実質的に導入しないことを特徴とする、上 記(1)から (5)のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
(7) 発電時に、系外からアノードへの酸素の流入を抑制することを特徴とする、上記 (1)から(6)のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
(8) 炭素と水素を構成元素として少なくとも含む有機化合物をアノードに導入し、 2 00〜1200°Cの温度条件下で、該有機化合物の熱分解反応を進行させることにより 、固体炭素が担持された、上記(1)から(7)のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
(9) 炭素と水素を構成元素として少なくとも含む有機化合物が、プロパン又はブタ ンを主成分とするものである上記(8)に記載の発電方法。
(10) アノードの総面積を S (cm2)、 25°C1気圧でのアルゴンガスの流量を F (cm3 /秒)としたとき、 F/Sの値が 6· 1 (cm/秒)となるように、 25°C1気圧のアルゴンガ スを、賦活後発電前にアノードに導入して測定した開回路電圧が 0. 6V以上である 上記(1)から (9)のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
(11) アノードの総面積を S (cm2)、 25。C1気圧でのアルゴンガスの流量を F (cm3 /秒)としたとき、 FZSの値が 0. 30 (cmZ秒)となるように、 25。C1気圧のアルゴン ガスを、賦活後発電前にアノードに導入して測定した開回路電圧が 0. 7V以上であ る上記(1)から(9)のレ、ずれかに記載の発電方法。
(12) アノードの総面積を S (cm2)、 25。C1気圧でのドライ水素ガスの流量を F (cm3 /秒)としたとき、 FZSの値が 6. l (cmZ秒)となるように、 25°C1気圧のドライ水素 ガスを、賦活後発電前にアノードに導入して測定した開回路電圧が 0. 9V以上であ る上記(1)から(9)のレ、ずれかに記載の発電方法。
(13) 賦活時の時間を T (分)、アノードの単位面積あたりの電荷移動量を Q (mAh /cm2)としたときの QZTの値が 1 (mAh/ (cm2'分))以上である上記(1)から(12) のレ、ずれかに記載の発電方法。
(14) 賦活時の時間を T (分)、出力密度を P (mWZcm2)としたときの PZTの値が 5 (mW/ (cm2'分))以上である上記(1)から(13)のレ、ずれかに記載の発電方法。
(15) 発電時の温度が 750°C以下である上記(1)から(14)のいずれかに記載の発 電方法。
(16) 発電時の温度が 750°C以下で、出力密度が 50 (mWZcm2)以上である上記 (1)から(14)のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
(17) 電流密度 9. 3mAZ cm2で発電したときの燃料利用効率が 60%以上である 上記(1)から(16)のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
(18) 電流密度 80mA/cm2で発電したときの燃料利用効率が 20%以上である上 記(1)から(17)のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
(19) アノード材料が、複合金属酸化物、又は、複合金属酸化物と金属からなるサ 一メットである上記(1)から(18)のレ、ずれかに記載の発電方法。
(20) サーメットが、 Ni/YSZ、 Ni/GDC、 Ni/ScSZ又は Ni/SDCである上記( 19)に記載の発電方法。
(21) 電解質が GDCである上記(1)から (20)のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
(22) アノード材料を有するアノード、力ソード材料を有する力ソード、及び、アノード と力ソードとの間に配置されたイオン伝導性の固体酸化物を含む電解質、を少なくと も有する固体酸化物型電池であって、該アノード材料が複合金属酸化物又はサーメ ットを含み、該アノード材料には固体炭素が担持されており、発電時にアノードにお いて、下記反応式(1)及び(2)を利用して発電することを特徴とする固体酸化物型電 池。

発明の効果
[0011] 本発明によれば、賦活時に固体炭素を該アノード材料に短時間で担持させても、 高い出力密度で長時間の発電が可能であり、燃料利用効率が高ぐ発電システムの コンパクト化が容易にできる固体酸化物型電池を提供することが可能となる。
[0012] すなわち、本発明の固体酸化物型電池では、アノードの燃料 (還元剤)として固体 炭素を使用する。固体炭素は液体状の燃料 (還元剤)やガス状の燃料 (還元剤)に比 較してエネルギー密度が非常に高ぐ液体状やガス状の電極活物質をアノードに供 給するための装置構成が不要となり、アノードの側の装置構成を簡素化することがで きる。従って、本発明によれば、発電システムのコンパクトィ匕を容易に確実に達成でき る構成を有する固体酸化物型電池を提供することができる。 [0013] また、発電をして固体炭素を消費した後において、例えば、発電システムから固体 酸化物型電池又はアノードを取り外し、 200〜1200°Cの範囲で熱分解反応を行レ、、 アノード材料に固体炭素を再び生成担持させることにより、固体酸化物型電池を繰り 返し使用することも容易にできる。
[0014] また、本発明の固体酸化物型電池は、発電システムに固定し、取り外さないで使用 する構成としてもよい。このとき、担持された固体炭素を消費した後、アノード材料に 固体炭素を再び担持させて使用するが、この場合、アノードに有機化合物を供給す るための装置構成が必要となる。しかし、従来の還元剤を含むガスを供給するための 装置構成と比較してシンプルな装置構成とすることが可能となるため、この場合にも 発電システムのコンパクト化を容易かつ確実に達成することができる。また、この場合 には、固体酸化物型電池が発電システムに固定されているため、固体炭素をより迅 速かつより容易にアノード材料に固体炭素を再び担持させて繰り返し発電することが できる。
[0015] 例えば、リチウムイオン二次電池等の二次電池は充電に比較的時間がかかるという 問題があった。これに対し、固体炭素は、熱分解反応により速やかに形成させること ができるため、本発明の固体酸化物型電池は、アノードの燃料(固体炭素)のチヤ一 ジを極めて迅速に行うことができる。従って、本発明の固体酸化物型電池は、発電シ ステムにぉレ、て、リチウムイオン二次電池等の二次電池のかわりに使用することもで きる。
[0016] なお、本発明の固体酸化物型電池は、上記のように有機化合物の熱分解反応を行 う場合に、固体炭素と共に水素を反応生成物として得ることができる。そのため、本発 明の固体酸化物型電池は、水素発生装置としても利用することができる。
[0017] 更に、本願発明の固体炭素を酸化させる作用を応用して、例えば、ディーゼル排ガ ス中の固体炭素系化合物(PM : Particulate Matter)の除去にも利用可能である。す なわち、本願発明は、二次電池、燃料電池、水素発生装置としての応用のほか、上 記のような排ガス除去等への応用も可能であり、電気化学リアクター(電気化学的な 反応場を提供する装置)としての利用が可能である。

得ることができない場合がある。また、 1200°Cを超える場合、アノード材料 2aの熱劣 化が激しくなる場合がある。上記と同様の観点から、熱分解反応の温度は 300〜10 00°Cであることが特に好ましぐ 400〜800°Cであることが更に好ましい。また、後述 の実施例に示すように、熱分解炭素析出温度を変えることで、アノードの単位面積あ たりの電荷移動量 Q (mAh/cm2)や後述する QZTの値を向上させることができる。 ここで、 Tは賦活時の時間である。

[0088] 本発明の固体酸化物型電池は、発電時の温度 750°C以下で、出力密度が 50 (m WZcm2)以上にすることができる。また、出力密度が 50 (mWZcm2)以上になるよう に、組成、構造、設定等が調整された固体酸化物型電池が好ましい。特に、電解質 として GDCを用いることによって、発電時の温度が 750°C以下であっても、出力密度 を 50 (mWZ cm2)以上にすることができる。また、発電時の温度が 700°C以下であつ ても、電荷移動量を 17 (mAhZcm2)以上にすることができる。

実施例
[0093] 以下、実施例を挙げて本発明について更に詳しく説明するが、本発明はこれらの 実施例に限定されるものではない。
実施例 1
電解質として厚さ 0. 3mmの 8YSZ (8モル0 /0の Y〇力 Sドープされた ZrO )ディスク

アノード (燃料極)の厚さは 50 μ ΐηであった。なお、構成と製造方法は、一般的な固 体酸化物型燃料電池の構成と製造方法に従った。すなわち、アノード材料及びカソ ード材料の粉体を溶媒に分散し、有機バインダー等を添加してスラリーを調製する。 次いで、当該スラリーをドクターブレード法でディスクに塗布し、焼成して固体酸化物 型燃料電池を作成した。
[0094] 固体酸化物型電池の開放状態で純ドライプロパンを、ガスの供給口から、 46STP mLZ分 (ここで STPは標準条件、すなわち 25°C、 1気圧の条件を意味する)の流量 で、 900°Cにて 5分間供給し、熱分解反応により固体炭素を析出させた。

/Sの値を 6. 1 (cm/秒)とした。 25°C1気圧のドライ水素ガスを、上記流量 3. 3 (c m3/秒)で、賦活後発電前にアノードに導入して測定した開回路電圧は 1. 32Vで あった。
[0098] 発電中は力ソード側に純酸素を酸化剤として供給し、アノード側はアルゴン (Ar)ガ スをフローしなかった。セルのシールを確実にし、アノードから 3. 5mの 1Z8インチス テンレス管をつなぎ、ガスクロマトグラフ装置をはさんで 5mのビュルチューブ(内径 8 mm)で外に排気することで、大気からの空気の逆拡散を抑制した。 900°Cで電流を 80mA/cm2の一定電流密度で発電し、端子電圧をモニターして、端子電圧が 0V になったところで発電を終了した。
[0099] 純ドライプロパンの導入による熱分解炭素(固体炭素)析出とそれに続く発電実験 を 6回繰り返したときの電圧の変化を図 2に示す。 1回目のサイクルでは、 44. 2〜50 . 4mWZ cm2の出力で安定に 83分間発電した。 2回目は 45. 5〜51. OmW/cm2 で 66分 3回目 fま 44. 4〜49. lmW/cm2で 70分 、 4回目 fま 44. 1~48. 6m W/ cm2で 58分「 、 5回目 ίま 44. 3〜50. OmW/cm2で 36分 、 6回目 ίま 44. 3〜 50. OmW/cm2で 60分間であった。各回での定電流発電時間は、各々 105、 90、 83、 89、 95、 92分であった。

[0102] 図 2のサイクル 1回目から 6回目の各回の電圧変化では、発電開始直後に電圧が 少し上昇する挙動が見られた。このことから、反応式 (3)及び (4)の固体炭素の酸化 よりも反応速度の速レ、 (2)式による C〇の酸化が電極反応に寄与したことが分かった 。つまり、発電開始時に反応式(3)及び/又は「(4)→(1)」式が起こり、生成した CO の酸化反応が引き続いて始まるためである。
[0103] 次に 7回目の熱分解炭素(固体炭素)析出を行い、電流密度をスイープして出力密 度と電流密度の関係を調べた。結果を図 3に示す。図 3より、最大出力密度 52mW /cm2が得られたことが分かった。また、 W/Tは 10 (mW/ (cm2'分))であった。

[0106] また、電流密度 80mA/cm2で発電したときの燃料利用効率は、各回で順に 48. 9 、 41. 6、 38. 6、 41. 2、 44. 2、 42. 6%であった。アノード多孑し体の内咅に堆積し た固体炭素だけでなぐそれよりももっと優勢なアノードの最表面上に堆積した固体 炭素も合わせた賦活炭素の 40質量%以上が発電のために消費されていることから、 発電時には反応式(3)及び/又は (4)よりも、反応式(1)及び(2)が支配的に起こつ ていることがわかった。

[0111] 図 6に、 GDC電解質を用いた固体酸化物型電池の 750°Cにおける発電特性を示 す。ドライプロパンを用いた 5分間の賦活で、電流密度 40mA/ cm2では 27分間、 8 OmA/cm2では 13分間の発電が可能であった。また、 80mA/cm2における最大 出力密度は 58. 9mW/cm2であった。一方、 8YSZ電解質を用いて 900°C、 80mA /cm2で発電したときの最大出力密度も、これとほぼ同じであった。すなわち、 GDC 電解質を用いた場合、 750°Cでも同等の出力密度を得ることができた。ここで、 750 °Cでの GDCの酸素イオン伝導度は 8YSZの 900°Cでのイオン伝導度と同等である が、このことだけでは本結果を説明できない。つまり、電極過電圧は低温ほど高くなる ので、 GDC電解質を用いることでアノード過電圧の低減を実現できた。 [0112] 図 7に、 GDC電解質を用いた固体酸化物型電池において、電流密度 (横軸)と、一 回の発電における「アノードの単位面積あたりの電荷移動量」(縦軸)との関係につい て示す。 40mA/cm2と 80mA/cm2の各電流密度において、電荷移動量は 17〜1 8mAhZcm2と充分であった。なお、電流密度が高いほど電荷移動量は少なくなる 傾向にあった。また、電荷移動量は、 700°Cでも、 750°Cの場合と比較して顕著な違 いは見られず充分であつた。

[0116] 8YSZ電解質では 900°Cにおいて 44〜52mWZcm2で約 80分の安定発電が可 能であった。一方、 GDC電解質においては 700°Cにおいて 44〜57mW/cm2で約 40分間の安定発電が可能であった。 GDC電解質を用いることで 700°Cにおいて、 Y SZ電解質を用いた 900°Cの発電と同等の出力密度が得られたが、電荷移動量は Y SZ電解質を用いて 900°Cで発電した場合の方が大き力 た。 GDC電解質を用いた 場合の高い出力密度は、アノード過電圧が低減したためである。
[0117] 図 9に、 800°Cにおいて 80〜200mAZcm2で発電したときの GDC電解質を用い たセルの発電特性を示す。アノード (燃料極)の厚さは何れも 35 μ ΐηであった。熱分 解炭素析出時間はそれぞれ 30分とした。電流密度の上昇と共に出力密度は増加し 、 200mA/cm2において最大出力密度 138mW/cm2を達成した。
[0118] 図 10に、それぞれの電流密度の発電における、発電開始直後の端子電圧及び出 力密度を、電流密度に対してプロットしたものを示す。ここで電流密度 OmA/cm2の ときの端子電圧は固体炭素発電の開始直前の開回路電圧 OCVを示しており 0. 81 9Vであった。また、電流密度を 80〜200mA/cm2の範囲で変化させた場合、開始 直後の端子電圧は 0. 775-0. 690Vと電位低下は少なぐ固体炭素燃料でも良好 な特性が得られた。
< ScSZ電解質 >
図 11に、 ScSZを電解質に用いたセルの発電特性を 8YSZと比較したものを示す。 何れもアノード (燃料極)の厚さは 30 a mであった。熱分解炭素析出は 900°Cにおい てプロパンを 50ccmで 5分間供給して行った。発電実験は 900°Cで 80mA/cm2の 電流密度で行なった。電荷移動量 Q (mAh/cm2)、及び、熱分解炭素析出時間( 賦活時の時間)を T (分)としたときの Q/Tの値は、 ScSZ電解質で、それぞれ Q = 2 34mAhZcm2、及び、 Q/T=46. 8mAh/ (cm2'分))であった。また、 YSZ電解 質で、それぞれ 119mAh/cm2、及び、 Q/T= 23. 8mAh/ (cm2'分))であった
<アノード膜厚の影響 >
図 12と図 13に、 ScSZを電解質に用いたセルの発電特性を、アノードの厚さとァノ ードの組成 (Ni/GDCの重量比)について調べたものを示す。熱分解炭素析出は、 900°Cにおいてプロパンを 50ccmで 5分間供給して行った。発電実験は、 900°Cで 電流密度 80mA/cm2と 160mAZcm2で行った。
[0119] アノードの膜厚が厚い 50 x mの方が高い出力密度と長い発電時間が得られた。す なわち、電流密度が 80mAZcm2のとき、最大出力密度は 72. 4mW/cm2 (P/T = 14. 5mW/ (cm2'分))で、電荷移動量は 302mAhZcm2 (QZT=60. 4mAh / (cm2'分))であった。また、電流密度が 160mA/cm2のときは、最大出力密度は 134mW/cm2 (P/T= 26. 8mWZ (cm2'分))で、電荷移動量は 310mAhZcm 2 (Q/T=62. 0mAh/ (cm2'分))であった。アノードの組成は Ni/GDC = 50/5 0の方が 40/60よりも出力密度と発電時間点で良好であった。
[0120] 図 14に、 ScSZ電解質を用いたセルにおける熱分解炭素析出温度と炭素析出量 の関係を示す。熱分解炭素析出は、所定の温度において、プロパンを 50ccmで 5分 間供給して行った。アノード膜厚を変化させた場合、膜厚が厚いほど炭素析出量が 多くなつたことから、膜厚を厚くすることによる電荷移動量の向上は、析出炭素量の増 加が主要因と考えられる。プロパンの熱分解反応による炭素析出量は 700°C付近で 最大となった。
<炭素析出温度の影響 >
図 15に、 ScSZを電解質に用いて、熱分解炭素析出の温度を変えたときの、発電 特性を示す。アノードの膜厚は 50 x mであった。熱分解炭素析出は、 800°C力 900 。Cにおいて、プロパンを 50ccmで 5分間供給することで行レ、、 900。Cにおレ、て 80m A/cm2の電流密度で発電実験を行なった。
[0121] 炭素析出温度が 900°Cのときは、 50〜62mW/cm2で約 200分の安定発電が可 能で、電荷移動量は 302mAhZcm2 (QZT= 60. 4mAh/ (cm2'分))であった。 炭素析出温度が 800°Cの場合は 45〜55mW/cm2で約 400分の長時間発電が可 能で、電荷移動量は613111八11/(:1112 (0/丁= 123111八11/ ((:1112 '分))と、約 2倍の 発電時間、電荷移動量の向上を得た。なお、熱分解炭素析出後の温度変化による セルの顕著な劣化は見られなかった。

<アノード (燃料極)の厚さを 80 μ mにした場合 >
電解質として厚さ 0. 3mmの ScSZ (10モル0 /0の Sc〇と 1モル0/。の CeOがドープ

[0123] 開回路状態で純ドライプロパンを 50ccmの流量で、 5分〜 20分間、アノードに供給 し、 800°Cあるいは 900°Cで熱分解反応により炭素をアノードに析出させた。その後 、 Arのみをアノード極に供給し、 C H、 H、 CO等の残留ガスが十分排出されたこと

をガスクロマトグラフィーで確認した後、 Arの供給を止め発電実験を行った。
[0124] 電流密度を一定にして、端子電圧が 0Vになったところで発電を終了した。発電温 度は熱分解温度と同じ温度にし、 800°Cか 900°Cであった。酸化剤には純酸素を用 いた。一つの燃料電池セルを用いて、熱分解炭素析出条件、発電温度、電流密度 等の条件を表 1に記載したように逐次変えて発電特性を調べた。発電時間に対する 出力の変化を図 17〜20に示す。
[0125] 最大出力密度については、瞬間的ではあるが、図 17 (表 1の実験番号 4、 5)に示 す通り、 900。Cにおレヽて電流密度 320111八/( 1112及び360111八/«112のときに、 250 mWZcm2を超えた(PZT= 50mWZ (cm2'分))。電荷移動量については、図 18 ( 表 1の実験番号 7)の 900°Cにおいて電流密度 80mA/cm2のときに 323mAh/cm 2 (Q/T=64. 5mAh/ (cm2'分))、図 20 (表 1の実験番号 14)の 800°Cで電流密 度 80mA/cm2のときに 1014mAh/cm2 (Q/T= 203mAh/ (cm2'分))であつ た。図 19 (表 1の実験番号 10)の熱分解炭素析出時間を 20分間にした場合、 900°C で電流密度 280mA/cm2のときに約 150mW/cm2の高出力で約 120分安定的に 発電できた。このときの電荷移動量は、 646mAh/cm2 (Q/T= 32. 3mAh/ (cm 2·分))であった。
[0126] 以上の発電実験で、 900°Cで発電した場合の最大出力密度と電圧の電流密度依 存性を図 21に示した。
[0127] 発電時のアルゴン (Ar)ガスフロー(以下、「Arフロー」と略記する)の影響を調べる ため、本実施例の上記で用いた同一の燃料電池セルを用いて、 900°Cで発電時に アルゴン(Ar)ガスを lOccm及び lOOccmフローして、電荷移動量のアルゴン(Ar) ガス流量依存性を調べた。熱分解炭素析出の条件は、これまで同様に純ドライプロ パンを 50ccmの流量で 5分間、アノードに供給し、 900°Cで熱分解炭素析出した。発 電は 900°Cで 280mA/ cm2の定電流で行った。
[0128] 図 22 (表 1の実験番号 3、 11、 12)のように、 Arフローが無いときの電荷移動量 280 mAh/cm2は、 lOOccmの Arフローによって、 21mAh/cm2まで大幅に減少した。 燃料利用率は Arフローが無いときの 45. 6%力ら、 lOOccmの Arフローにより 3. 3% に低下した。これは、 Arフローによってアノード近傍の COや COガスの排出が促進

され、反応式(1)及び(2)を利用した発電が起きにくくなつたためである。 Arフロー時 の発電反応は反応式 (3)や (4)が主になり、析出した固体炭素のごく一部しか発電 に利用できなかった。
[0129] Arフローでの発電完了に引き続いて、 Arフローを止めた状態で、同じく 280mA/ cm2で発電を行ったところ(表 1の実験番号 11— 2、 12— 2)、電荷移動量は 247mA h/cm2 (Arフロー lOOccmの発電完了後)及び 235mAhZcm2 (Arフロー lOccm の発電完了後)が得られ、 Arフロー時と Arフロー無しでの電荷移動量を合わせると、 最初から Arフロー無しで発電したときの電荷移動量に近レ、値が得られた。 Arフロー 時には利用できずに残った固体炭素が、 Arフローを止めたことで、反応式(1)及び( 2)によって発電に利用できたことが分かった。本実施例 4において、 Arフローが無い ときの発電の電荷移動量の内、反応式(1)及び(2)の寄与の割合は、 100 X (280 21) /280 = 93%と見積もられた。

[0133] 本発明の固体酸化物型電池は、携帯機器 (小型電子機器)等の電源、そのバック アップ用電源、ノ、イブリツド車向けの補助電源等として広く利用することができるもの である。

Claims

請求の範囲
[1] 固体炭素が担持され、複合金属酸化物又はサーメットを含むアノード材料を有する アノード、力ソード材料を有する力ソード、及び、アノードと力ソードとの間に配置され たイオン伝導性の固体酸化物を含む電解質、を少なくとも有する固体酸化物型電池 における発電方法であって、アノード材料に担持された固体炭素を二酸化炭素と反 応させて気体の一酸化炭素に変換し、当該気体の一酸化炭素を酸化することにより 発電することを特徴とする固体酸化物型電池の発電方法。
[2] 発電時に消費される一酸化炭素の 50モル%以上が、固体炭素と二酸化炭素との 反応により生じた一酸化炭素である請求項 1記載の発電方法。
[3] 電荷移動量の 50%以上が、固体炭素と二酸化炭素との反応により得られた一酸化 炭素の酸化に起因する、請求項 1または 2に記載の発電方法。
[4] アノードの総面積を S (cm2)、 25°C1気圧でのアルゴンガスの流量を F (cm3/秒)と したとき、 F/Sの値が 3· 0 (cm/秒)となるように、 25°C1気圧のアルゴンガスをァノ ードに導入しながら発電した場合の電荷移動量を Ql、アルゴンガスをアノードに導 入しないで発電した場合の電荷移動量を Q2としたとき、 [(Q2-QD/Q2] X 100力 S 50以上である請求項 1から 3のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
[5] 発電時に、反応生成ガスによる圧力上昇分以上はアノード外部に反応生成ガスを 放出させないことを特徴とする、請求項 1から 4のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
[6] 発電時に、アノードにキャリアガスを実質的に導入しないことを特徴とする、請求項 1から 5のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
[7] 発電時に、系外からアノードへの酸素の流入を抑制することを特徴とする、請求項 1 から 6のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
[8] 炭素と水素を構成元素として少なくとも含む有機化合物をアノードに導入し、 200 〜1200°Cの温度条件下で、該有機化合物の熱分解反応を進行させることにより、固 体炭素が担持された、請求項 1から 7のレ、ずれかに記載の発電方法。
[9] 炭素と水素を構成元素として少なくとも含む有機化合物が、プロパン又はブタンを 主成分とするものである請求項 8に記載の発電方法。
[10] アノードの総面積を S (cm2)、 25°C1気圧でのアルゴンガスの流量を F (cm3/秒)と したとき、 F/Sの値が 6· 1 (cm/秒)となるように、 25°C1気圧のアルゴンガスを、賦 活後発電前にアノードに導入して測定した開回路電圧が 0. 6V以上である請求項 1 から 9のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
[11] アノードの総面積を S (cm2)、 25。C1気圧でのアルゴンガスの流量を F (cm3Z秒)と したとき、 F/Sの値が 0. 30 (cm/秒)となるように、 25。C1気圧のアルゴンガスを、 賦活後発電前にアノードに導入して測定した開回路電圧が 0. 7V以上である請求項
1から 9のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
[12] アノードの総面積を S (cm2)、 25°C1気圧でのドライ水素ガスの流量を F (cm3Z秒) としたとき、 FZSの値が 6. l (cmZ秒)となるように、 25°C1気圧のドライ水素ガスを、 賦活後発電前にアノードに導入して測定した開回路電圧が 0. 9V以上である請求項
1から 9のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
[13] 賦活時の時間を T (分)、アノードの単位面積あたりの電荷移動量を Q (mAh/cm2
)としたときの Q/Tの値が 1 (mAh/ (cm2'分))以上である請求項 1から 12のレヽず れかに記載の発電方法。
[14] 賦活時の時間を T (分)、出力密度を P (mW/cm2)としたときの P/Tの値が 5 (m

[15] 発電時の温度が 750°C以下である請求項 1から 14のいずれかに記載の発電方法
[16] 発電時の温度が 750°C以下で、出力密度が 50 (mW/ cm2)以上である請求項 1 力 14のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
[17] 電流密度 9. 3mA/cm2で発電したときの燃料利用効率が 60%以上である請求項
1から 16のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
[18] 電流密度 80mA/cm2で発電したときの燃料利用効率が 20%以上である請求項 1 力、ら 17のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
[19] アノード材料が、複合金属酸化物、又は、複合金属酸化物と金属からなるサーメット である請求項 1から 18のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
[20] サーメットが、 Ni/YSZ, Ni/GDC、 NiZScSZ又は Ni/SDCである請求項 19 に記載の発電方法。
[21] 電解質が GDCである請求項 1から 20のいずれかに記載の発電方法。
[22] アノード材料を有するアノード、力ソード材料を有する力ソード、及び、アノードとカソ ードとの間に配置されたイオン伝導性の固体酸化物を含む電解質、を少なくとも有す る固体酸化物型電池であって、該アノード材料が複合金属酸化物又はサーメットを 含み、該アノード材料には固体炭素が担持されており、発電時にアノードにおいて、 下記反応式(1)及び(2)を利用して発電することを特徴とする固体酸化物型電池。

[25] アノードの総面積を S (cm2)、 25°C1気圧でのアルゴンガスの流量を F (cm3/秒)と したとき、 F/Sの値が 3· 0 (cm/秒)となるように、 25°C1気圧のアルゴンガスをァノ ードに導入しながら発電した場合の電荷移動量を Ql、アルゴンガスをアノードに導 入しないで発電した場合の電荷移動量を Q2としたとき、 [(Q2-QD/Q2] X 100力 S 50以上である、請求項 22から 24のいずれかに記載の固体酸化物型電池。
[26] 発電時に、反応生成ガスによる圧力上昇分以上はアノード外部に反応生成ガスを 放出させないことを特徴とする、請求項 22から 25のいずれかに記載の固体酸化物 型電池。
[27] 発電時に、アノードにキャリアガスを実質的に導入しないことを特徴とする、請求項

[34] 通電時に、反応生成ガスによる圧力上昇分以上はアノード外部に反応生成ガスを 放出させないことを特徴とする、請求項 30から 33のいずれかに記載の電気化学リア クタ一。
