Abstract

Display structures (100, 400) are disclosed for Point of Sale (POS) displays, wherein the structures may be foldably converted from a service state to a shipping state, with panels of the display structure themselves serving as the shipping enclosure.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on 05 December 2007 (05.12.2007)
1. A combined display unit and shipping container (100, 400), comprising: at least one display member (101, 300); and at least one support structure (111, 360) affixed to said at least one display member; wherein at least one of said at least one display member (101, 300) and said at least one support structure (111, 360) is collapsible into a substantially planar condition adapted for being at least partially folded into flat-face condition with respect to the other of said at least one display member (101 , 300) and said at least one support structure (111 , 360) so as to create a self-contained shipping container for said at least one display member and said at least one support structure.
2. The display unit of claim 1, wherein said at least one display member (101, 300) is substantially planar.
3. The display unit of claim 1, wherein said at least one support structure (111 , 360) is collapsible into a substantially planar condition.
4. The display unit of claim 1 , wherein said at least one display member (101 , 300) is substantially planar and said at least one support structure is collapsible into a substantially planar condition.

The display unit of claim 4, wherein said at least one display member (101, 300) and said at least one support structure (111, 360) are adapted for being folded together in flat-face condition into said self-contained package when said at least one support structure is collapsed into said substantially planar condition.

The display unit of claim 5, wherein said at least one display member (111 , 360) is adapted for being folded into at least two display panels (102, 104, 324) and said at least one support structure (111, 360) is adapted for being folded into a number of support panels equal to and corresponding to said at least two display panels (122, 124, 374) whereby said self- contained package may be formed by said at least two display panels and said at least two support panels being folded in registry with one another.
7. The display unit of claim 6, wherein said at least two display panels comprise three display panels (122, 124, 126).
8. The display unit of claim 1 , wherein said at least one support structure (111, 360) has a columnar configuration.
9. The display unit of claim 8, wherein said columnar configuration has a cross section having at least three sides.
10. The display unit of claim 9, wherein said columnar configuration has a rectangular cross section.
11. The display unit of claim 1 , wherein at least one of said at least one display member (101 , 300) and said at least one support structure (111, 360) is formed from a substrate.
12. The display unit of claim 11 , wherein said substrate is selected from the group comprising paper, paperboard and plastic.
13. The display unit of claim 1, further comprising at least one auxiliary structure (340) attached to said display member, at least partially collapsible into a substantially planar condition adapted for being at least partially folded into flat-face condition with respect to at least one of said display member and said support structure so as to form part of said self- contained package.
14. The display unit of claim 1, wherein said at least one display member comprises a compartmented-bin structure.
15. The display unit of claim 14, wherein said at least one support structure is collapsible into a substantially planar condition.
16. The display unit of claim 14, further comprising at least one auxiliary structure attached to said display member, at least partially collapsible into a substantially planar condition adapted for being at least partially folded into flat-face condition with respect to at least one of said display member and said support structure so as to form part of said self- contained package.
17. The display unit of claim 16, wherein said at least one support structure is collapsible into a substantially planar condition.
18. The display unit of claim 13, wherein said at least one auxiliary member is formed from a substrate.
19. The display unit of claim 18, wherein said substrate is selected from the group comprising paper, paperboard and plastic.
20. The display unit of claim 1 , wherein said display member is
22 adapted for retaining at least one article for visual inspection and retrieval.
21. A method for utilizing a display unit, the method comprising: acquiring a display unit comprising at least one display member, and at least one support structure having a plurality of foldable panels for supporting said at least one display member; at least partially collapsing into a substantially planar condition said display member and at least one of said foldable panels; and folding at least one of said foldable panels with respect to said display member so as to form a self-contained shipping container for said at least one display member and said at least one support structure.
22. A method of converting a display unit to a self-contained shipping container for the display unit, comprising: at least partially dismantling a foldable support structure comprising a plurality of panels, attached to a display member; unfolding and repositioning at least one of said support structure panels so as to cover at least a portion of said display member; covering substantially all of said display member with at least one of said support structure panels; and, attaching said support structure panels so as to create a self-contained shipping container that substantially protects said display member within at least one unfolded and repositioned support structure panel.
