The invention relates to a method for the monitoring or diagnosis of at least one component of an actuator (1) for actuating a fitting (8) in the field of process engineering, whereby at least one current actual value of the acceleration of an accelerated mass in at least one defined spatial axis (x, y, z) is recorded, the determined actual value is compared with a pre-defined nominal value, and in the event of a deviation between the actual value and the nominal value outside a pre-determined tolerance range, a message relating to a defective functioning of a system and/or process variable is generated.
