Definitions
- the invention relates to a radio and remote-controlled safety system for machine-operated watercraft with man overboard function and electronic theft protection.
- Safety devices for machine-operated watercraft are known.
- Machine-powered vessels are equipped with a so-called quick stop, which is designed to prevent the engine from continuing in a man-overboard situation.
- the machine drive is provided with an emergency stop switch, either directly on the engine with smaller outboards, or on the control panel of a larger vessel.
- an emergency stop button a clip is attached with a ripcord. The engine can only be started as long as the clip deactivates the switch. If the clip is removed, the engine stops immediately.
- This safety device has the distinct disadvantage that the ripcord must be attached either to the driver's wrist or to the lifejacket, so that the clip is pulled off in a man overboard situation.
- many boaters do not attach the ripcord to themselves because it is either forgotten or because in most cases the ripcord impedes the steering of the craft.
- the well-known quick stop does not provide optimal theft protection.
- the engine can not be started without the matching clip, you can buy clips for all engine manufacturers in every Yachtshop or replace the clip with a cable tie.
- the inventor task was therefore to develop a security system which eliminates the mentioned disadvantages and ensures optimal protection in dunning over-board situations and against theft.
- this object has been achieved by a transmitter module which, when in contact with water, sends a signal to a receiver module.
- the receiver module converts the signal and stops the * prime mover.
- the transmitter module is equipped with a battery or a rechargeable battery as well as two pushbuttons, whereby the first pushbutton with the. "Stop” function, the second is occupied by the “Start” function. Furthermore, the transmitter module incorporates a transistor that uses an electrical impulse to perform the function of the "stop” button as soon as the transmitter comes into contact with water, by placing a contact from the positive pole of the battery to the housing of the transmitter module If the transmitter module receives water contact, current flows from the positive pole of the battery to the contact of the collector and this closes the contact between its base and the emmitor. The button is bridged with the "stop” function and the signal is sent.
- the receiver module consists of the actual receiver for the particular radio frequencies and a controller which converts the signals in the desired way. Furthermore, a relay with at least one "on-off" function is integrated in the receiver module.
- the receiver module is supplied with a battery or a rechargeable battery. It may be mounted anywhere in the vessel, preferably either directly on the propulsion engine (outboard, inboard) or on the control console of the craft. In order to optimize the anti-theft function of the security system, the receiver module may preferably be factory-integrated in the electronic control unit of the engine. When mounted externally, the power supply to the receiver should be via the ignition current of the machine. In this embodiment, the receiver is supplied with power when the ignition key of the watercraft is in the "ON" position.
- the basic position of the relay is preferably the "off" position
- the motor can not be started because no ignition spark can be generated
- This relay position is preferably always present when the receiver module is not supplied with power. so also if the ignition key is removed or is on the "off” position of the lock. If the engine is to be started, the ignition key must first be set to “ON” and then the "Start” button of the radio transmitter must be actuated. The radio signal is received by the receiver module and the relay switches to the "on” position which interrupts the contact between the ⁇ motor stop cable and the earth, now a spark can occur and the engine can be started.
- the relay in the receiver switches to "OFF” and thus restores the contact between the stop cable and the earth.
- the engine goes off immediately.
- the driver sets the ignition key to the "stop” position.
- the engine is stopped via the ignition switch and the receiver module is no longer supplied with power, so the relay switches to the "OFF" basic position.
- the receiver module is integrated directly in the electronic control unit of the engine, then the safety system according to the invention offers very effective theft protection for both the watercraft and the outboard motor. Without the right radio transmitter, the prime mover can not be started, not even by bridging the ignition lock. In order to start a motor equipped with the safety system without the radio transmitter, the entire control unit would have to be replaced by a conventional one.
- the receiver module is installed separately on the engine, it still offers some theft protection. To start the engine, the system must first be located and disconnected. However, since it is very small (about 7cm in length, 2cm in width, 2cm in height), it can be installed very inconspicuously in the watercraft or on the engine block.
- the transmitter module is also very small and can preferably be attached by means of a snap hook on the driver's life jacket or elsewhere. In this way, it does not interfere with the steering of the watercraft nor does it restrict the driver's freedom of movement.
- the safety system according to the invention could preferably also be installed in outboard motors without external power supply if the receiver module is likewise equipped with a battery or a rechargeable battery.
- a solar collector with appropriate power in the vessel or on the motor housing can be attached.
- this can preferably also be used for additional emergency call signals:
- KIP system child in the pool: especially for parents of toddlers with swimming pool or garden pond on the property.
- the radio transmitter is attached to the clothing of the toddler and the receiver is connected to the house with an acoustic warning signal. If the child falls into the water, the alarm is triggered immediately and the child may be saved from drowning. If another emergency situation occurs, the child can trigger the warning signal by pressing a button.
