Abstract
The invention concerns a device that prohibits that major damage comes about when the tow line of the water skier becomes entangled in the propeller of the outboard engine of the towing boat . The invention concerns a safeguarding for the tow line attachment with a semi circular bracket to which the tow line is attached with a pulley. The invention comprises a bracket (3) which can tilt downward where by means of a mechanical connection the safety pin (8) on the outboard engine is pulled loose so that the ignition of the engine is being interrupted.
Description
Safety arrangement for towing line of waterskiing.
The invention concerns a device which prevents occurring major damage when the tow llnR of a-water skier becomes entangled in the propeller of the outboard engine of a towing boat. This paπicuiarty happens in the case of manoeuvring when the outboard engine reverses and sucks up the tow line and then subsequently winds itself around the propeller. Often, herewith damage occurs to the outboard engine or the attachment of the tow line, or the tow line itself.
The invention now concerns a safety device for a tow line attachment with a semi-circular bracket to which the tow line is attached with a pulley. Normally speaking this bracket is attached to the outboard engine. When the tow line becomes entangled in the propeller the bracket is pulled down forcefully, with the result that the bracket and the outboard engine are being damaged.
The invention now concerns a bracket which can pivot downwards whereby by means of a mechanical connection the safety device of the engine is being activated so that the ignition of the engine is being interrupted. Because the bracket can pivot further downwards the tow line can wind itself a few more winds around the propeller without exerting too much stress on the bracket and outboard engine.
Now the invention will be explained with the help of the drawing:
Fig. 1 schematically shows the side view the outboard engine Fig. 2 shows a horizontal cross section
Fig. 3 shows an enlarged view of the pivoting point Fig. 4 shows the top view of the pivoting point
Outboard engine (1 ) is mounted to the transom of boat (2). Bracket (3) is attached to outboard engine (1) by means of pivoting points (4). With (5) is indicated the tow line which can roll along the bracket (3) by means of a pulley (6). Bowden cable (7) connects one of the pivoting points (4) with the safety pin (8) of the engine. Instead of a Bowden cable a safety line can be used which pulls loose the safety pin (8).
In Fig. 3 and 4 is shown the pivoting point with the attachment for the Bowden cable. Disc (9) is welded to the mounting bracket (10) of the device. With bolt (11) disc (12) is pivotally connected.
The discs (9) and (10) are being held together with a spring washer. Screw (14) with ball under spring pressure in combination with cavity (15) fixes the horizontal position of bracket (3). Bracket (3) is inserted into the tube (16) welded to the disc (12). In Fig. 3, with (17) a tilted position of bracket (3) is shown. Cam (18), which is attached to disc (12) and cam (19) which is attached to disc (9) serve as an attachment for the Bowden cable (7). Instead of a Bowden cable, also a safety line can be installed.
The working is as follows: when during the manoeuvring of the boat (2) the tow line (5) becomes entangled in the propeller (20) bracket (3) will be pulled downwards. After a few turns the Bowden cable will pull the safety pin loose off the engine and the engine will stop. Because the motor will make a few more revolutions, bracket (3) will be pulled further down, however without force, and there will be
L no damage. Furthermore the tow line (5) will not be wound tightly around the propeller (20) or be torn to pieces.
Claims
1. Safety device for tow line bracket of tow line attachment for water skiing characterised in that the bracket (3) which is pivoted around pivoting point (4), wherein with mechanical means the ignition of the engine is being interrupted wherein after the stopping the engine, the bracket can revolve further more.
2. Safety device for water skiing according to claim 1 characterised in that the pivoting point (4) consists of 2 discs (9,12), which are being held together with a spring washer, whereby disc (9) is equipped with cam (19) and disc (12) is equipped with cam (18) between which a Bowden cable is installed.
3. Safety device for water skiing according to claim 1 and 2 characterised in that in a downward movement bracket (3) first pulls loose safety pin (8) and subsequently pivots further down.
4. Safety device for waterskiing according to claim 1 , 2 and 3 characterised in that the connection between pivoting point (4) and safety pin (8) is being realized by means of a cord.
