Definitions
- the present invention relates to a methane treatment device contained in the exhaust gas emitted by a diesel engine. It also relates to a methane treatment process contained in the exhaust gas emitted by such an engine.
- the hydrocarbons contained in the exhaust gases emitted by a diesel engine are treated by catalytic oxidation carried out at a catalytic system comprising platinum and / or palladium.
- the degradation by catalytic oxidation of methane requires a temperature of the exhaust gas close to 500 ° C.
- a temperature of the exhaust gas close to 500 ° C.
- such a temperature is rarely reached by the exhaust gas, or is never even reached in the conditions of driving in an urban environment.
- the object of the invention is therefore to propose a device making it possible to treat the methane emitted by the exhaust gases of diesel engines in order to effectively and significantly reduce the quantity of methane released into the air, irrespective of the traffic conditions for vehicles equipped with a diesel engine, in an urban environment or on a motorway, and irrespective of the chosen mode of combustion, whether for conventional combustion or for homogeneous combustion.
- the device for treating the methane contained in the exhaust gases emitted by a diesel engine, especially under conditions of urban traffic comprises a first means adapted to trap and store, by adsorption in a porous solid material. methane, a second means for the thermal desorption of methane stored in the first means, and a third means for the elimination of methane.
- the device according to the invention is therefore specific to the treatment of methane, which is not degraded current pollution control systems and that is found in the exhaust gas emitted downstream of the catalytic system.
- This device also has the advantage of being able to be disposed downstream of the catalytic system, thus modifying little the associated industrial process. It can obviously be installed on new vehicle manufacturing lines, but also on vehicles already in circulation.

Abstract
Description
On réalise
-par un contrôle moteur, en modifiant le mode de combustion du moteur sans changer de point de fonctionnement du moteur en régime et en couple ;
du premier moyen adapter à piéger et à stocker le méthane ;
