Abstract
The present invention is directed to a treatment unit for use in the treatment and sterilisation of water, particularly drinking water or sewage. Preferred embodiments comprise two electrically connected sets of elements, interleaved with each other. Separator elements may be positioned between the elements. Each element comprises an electrically conducting core coated with a substantially non-conductive coating. The arrangement is immersed in the fluid to be treated and an electical potential is applied in a pulsed manner to each connected set, the applied potential itself also being of a relatively high frequency. This causes effects in the fluid which adversely affect many pathogenic species.
