Description
LOCK FOR LOCKING UP THE STEERING MECHANISM ON THE CARS
Field of the invention
The invention is intended to be a part of the vehicle protection equipment against the unlawful use or motor vehicle theft. In fact this is a steering column anti-theft locking device.
In compliance with International Patent Classification ^η\ the invention has been rated and designated by class symbols B60R 25/02 and E05B 25/02.
Technical problem
The technical problem, worked out by this invention, consists of the following: how to provide a secure mechanical solution against the unlawful use or vehicle theft by application of the lock device moving coupled rings supplied with slots and rack which enable a great number of lock combinations using an indented key providing the greater security and mechanical resistance. The lock is fitted on the steering column without affecting it.
State of the art
There are many ways, known worldwide and in our country, of preventing the unlawful use and theft of the motor vehicles, starting with the simplest way of leverage system attached to the steering wheel. In addition to this steering wheel blocking, there are various designs of the locking device fitted to the gearbox, clutch or brake pedals, electrohydraulic systems, alarms including sound and light warning signals, and alarm systems connected to cell telephones, police stations or via satellite network.
Only distinctive devices applied to motor vehicle steering column lock will be detailed with short description in the following text. All these devices are available in the Institute document fund.
The Italian firm Dario Arman & C.S.a.s, has more applications and approved patents, but the proper explanation will be supplied only to one solution, described in the patent document YU 36645. The device consists of a key operated lock and means
activated by the key angular movement, enabling an extended latch shifting as well as an angular moving of the switch rotating component together with a fixed part which closes the appropriate ignition and starter motor circuit contacts, activating the locking leverage mechanism of the steering column.
The locking device fitted onto the steering wheel, protected by YU petty patents No. 331MP and 332MP, is supplied with a lock with coded key. This coded key locks the leverage and support system.
Design of the YU petty patent No. 569MP consists of a protective metal cap, also fitted on the steering wheel and is also locked by the cylinder barrel.
Above mentioned and current designs, which are not yet described, are more or less efficient, but the primary fault of these designs is a structure complexity, affecting the price of the product.
The use of the product makes another fault because it must be removed and set again at each engine start and parking procedure.
At the time, some design solutions appeared on the market. These locking devices are fitted on the steering column using a combined installation procedure but the price of the product is higher.
All these faults are eliminated by the proposed solutions which will be described in details in the following text.
Essence of the Invention
The subject of the invention is a ring plates lock fitted on the steering column without affecting it, what is enabled by mounting a ring fixed on the steering column and secured by a key and a fixed component attached to car body. It is not necessary to remove and reinstall the lock assembly before driving or after parking. It provides car steering system locking and prevents unlawful usage and vehicle theft.
The lock assembly is a unit and consists of a fixed subassembly which is a lock housing encased by panels and mounted by using securing pins. The lock racks and key dowel are mounted in the lock assembly including a movable unit containing six moving slotted ring plates which run through slots machined on two racks. The locking procedure is performed by removing the key from the lock barrel, when six springs shift the ring plates in a bend path. These ring plates run through the slotted racks to the stop at the frame. Ring plates are provided with slots unevenly located along the bend component,
moving from the racks (8) axis and locks the running subassembly mounted onto the fixed lock assembly.
Unlocking is performed by inserting the key into the lock cylinder and turning clockwise through 90° when six key cogs bend shift ring plates to left side, aligning all ring plates slots with rack axis enabling back and forth movement of the running subassembly relative to fixed subassembly.
The lock is nearly unlockable without genuine key and it has 46656 combinations.

Detailed description of the invention
The motor vehicle steering column securing lock, according to the above described invention, presents a unique assembly consisted of a fixed subassembly, moving assembly and coded key (13).
The fixed unit is a firm joint lock housing made of steel plates (1), (7). A passage slot for two racks (8), two holes for two pins (14) mounting by the securing nut (12), hole for the screw (9) secured by nut (10) and key (13) guide (11) are machined at the front panel (1). Apassage slot for two racks (8), two holes for two pins (14) and key (13) guide slot (11) are machined at the rear panel (7). The panels (1) and (7) are secured by pins (14).
In the moving subassembly located in the lock housing, six frames (4) and five boxes (5) are turn, and there are six ring plates (17) provided with slots fixing six springs (16) turning around the middle pivot (15). The moving subassembly is fitted between the plate (3) with screw bracket (2) and terminal plate (6) using the rivet (15). This locking device is intended for all types of automobile and can be fitted directly at manufacturer's plant or at dealer's workshop. The size of the locking device is 43 x 45 x 35 cm, it is easy for mounting and maintenance free.
The principal of the locking device will be explained for two operation stages — locking the car at parking lot and unlocking before starting.
The locking procedure starts when removing the key (13) from the lock barrel when six springs (16) bend move six ring plates (17) running through rack (8) slots to stop at the frame component (4). The ring plates (17) are provided with operating slots, variously distributed along the bend part. They are moving from the racks (8) axis and locks the running subassembly mounted onto the fixed lock assembly. The securing screw (9) comes to a ring fitted on the steering column.
Unlocking is performed by inserting the key into the lock cylinder and turning clockwise through 90° when six key (13) cogs bend shift ring plates (17) to left side, aligning all ring plates (17) slots with rack (8) axis enabling back and forth movement of the running subassembly relative to fixed subassembly.
By this invention, it is almost impossible to unlock the locking device without the genuine key (13), which is hollow and is guided through the guide slot (11). It makes impossible use of the master key to unlock this device. In this case, the master key should shift six ring plates (17) and all them align with rack (8) axis. If the master key moves ring plates (17) left, further for only 0,1 mm related to rack (8) axis, ring plates (17) will be automatically locked from the other side and the locking device is locked again.
The locking device is automatically locked when the key is removed regardless to the lock running subassembly position, ensuring the steering column can not be locked while driving.
