Description
Description
APPARATUS FOR DISCHARGING THE SMELL IN THE LID
OF COOKING RECEPTACLE
Technical Field
[1] The present invention relates to an apparatus for discharging food smell from a lid of a cooking receptacle, and more particularly to a device for effectively discharging high-temperature vapor and food smell generated in a cooking receptacle during cooking directly to a range hood through a venting member, thereby preventing the vapor and smell from permeating the indoor air and the food in the cooking receptacle from being boiled over. Background Art
[2] A variety of cooking receptacles, such as cooking pots and frying pans, are used to cook at home or restaurants. However, most of currently available cooking receptacles cannot completely remove smell and vapor generated therein during cooking or prevent the smell and vapor from permeating every corner of rooms.
[3] With the keen interest in health in recent years, increasing attention has been paid to the intake of healthy food, such as fatty fish (including salmon, mackerel, sardines and herring) and fermented soybean pastes. The high concentrations of unsaturated fatty acid, EPA and DHA contained in fatty fish have been found to reduce cholesterol levels and prevent various diseases. Also, fermented soybean pastes can inhibit cancers in humans. Due to the trend towards more healthy dietary habits, many people frequently cook and eat such healthy food at home.
[4] However, while cooking fish or fermented soybean paste using a frying pan or a cooking pot, fishy smell or unpleasant odors are generated and permeate every corner of rooms. Cooking smell may reduce appetite. In addition, cooking smell may remain indoors for a long time even if the kitchen is sufficiently ventilated. Disclosure of Invention Technical Problem
[5] As a solution to this problem, a cooking receptacle can be covered with a lid, thereby reducing permeation of smell generated during cooking.
[6] A conventional lid for a cooking receptacle is illustrated in FIG. 1. The lid 10 includes a circular body 11, a knob 12 connected to the top center of the body 11 by means of a nut 13, a vapor hole 14 for discharging high-temperature vapor generated within a cooking receptacle ( or utensil) 20 during cooking, and a protective rim 15 provided at the outer periphery of the body 11 to protect the rim of the body 11 and placed onto the cooking receptacle 20.
[7] When the pressure within the cooking receptacle or utensil is increased by heating, all vapor and food smell generated within the cooking receptacle are not discharged out through the vapor hole 14 of the lid 10. The vapor and smell are also released out through a gap between the cooking receptacle 20 and the lid 10. At this time, the food in the cooking receptacle 20 may be boiled over.
[8] As illustrated in FlG. 2, a range hood 30 is generally installed above a gas range in the kitchen. The range hood 30 sucks high-temperature vapor and cooking smell released from the cooking receptacle 20 during cooking and discharges the vapor and smell outside the kitchen.
[9] The range hood 30 has an air inlet 31 for sucking high-temperature vapor and cooking smell from the cooking receptacle 20 heated on the gas range, and a ventilation fan 32 for forcibly discharging out the vapor and smell sucked into the interior of the range hood 30.
[10] Since the range hood is spaced from the gas range by a certain distance, it cannot completely suck all the high-temperature vapor and food smell released from a cooking receptacle. About 70 to 80% of the vapor and smell permeate the indoor air. Accordingly, a better solution is demanded to more effectively discharge the vapor and smell generated during cooking.
[11] Therefore, the present invention has been made in view of the above-mentioned problems, and it is an object of the present invention to provide a apparatus for discharging food smell from a cooking receptacle using a double lidded cover which consists of an inner lid having a plurality of venting holes formed along the perimeter thereof and an upper lid having a venting hole at the top center thereof and a plurality of air inlet holes formed at the outer peripheral side thereof so that high-temperature vapor and smell generated during cooking can move upward through the venting holes of the inner lid, enter into a space provided under the outer lid, meet cold air introduced from the air inlet holes of the outer lid, and rise by convection thereby to be smoothly discharged out through the venting hole of the outer lid.
[12] Another object of the present invention is to provide a device for effectively discharging high-temperature vapor and food smell generated in a cooking receptacle during cooking directly to a range hood through a venting member, thereby preventing the vapor and smell from permeating the indoor air and the food in the cooking receptacle from being boiled over. Technical Solution
[13] In order to accomplish the above object of the present invention, there is provided a apparatus for discharging food smell from a cooking receptacle, which includes: an inner lid 200 having a plate-shaped body 210, a knob 220 integrally formed at a top
center of the body 210, and a plurality of venting holes 230 formed along the perimeter of the body 210; an outer lid 300 having a dome-shaped body 310 which slopes downwardly from a top center to a rim thereof, a space 320 formed under the dome- shaped body 310, a handle 340 fixed to one side of an upper surface of the body 310 by means of a bolt 330, and a venting hole 350 extending upward from a top center of the body 310 and communicating with the space 320; and a venting member 400 fixed to a lower surface of a range hood 500 and having a flexible corrugated tube 410 which is height-adjustable between the outer lid 300 and the range hood 500. Advantageous Effects
[14] The apparatus for discharging food smell from a cooking receptacle includes a double lidded cover which consists of an inner lid having a plurality of venting holes formed along the perimeter thereof and an upper lid having a venting hole at the top center thereof and a plurality of air inlet holes formed at the outer peripheral side thereof. The high-temperature vapor and smell generated during cooking move upward through the venting holes of the inner lid, enter into a space provided under the outer lid, meet cold air introduced from the air inlet holes of the outer lid, and rise by convection thereby to be smoothly discharged out through the venting hole of the outer lid.
[15] Since the high-temperature vapor and food smell generated in the cooking receptacle is discharged directly to a range hood through a venting member, thereby preventing the vapor and smell from permeating the indoor air and the food in the cooking receptacle from being boiled over.
[16] Except for the through hole formed at the top center of the tube holder to communicate with the corrugated tube of the venting member, every side of the tube holder mounted in the range hood is sealed for sanitary purposes to prevent stuck-on dirt or grime in the range hood from falling into the cooking receptacle. The apparatus for discharging food smell has a clean, unobtrusive appearance. In other words, the interior of the range hood is not seen, and the venting member with the corrugated tube is completely accommodated inside the range hood. Brief Description of the Drawings

Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention [29] Reference will now be made in detail to the preferred embodiments of the present invention. [30] A apparatus for discharging food smell from a cooking receptacle according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention will be explained in detail with reference to FlGs. 3 through 9. The device effectively discharges high-temperature vapor and food smell generated in a cooking receptacle during cooking directly to a range hood through a venting member, thereby preventing the food in the cooking receptacle from being boiled over. [31] According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the device includes a cooking pot 100 used for cooking and a double-lidded cover for covering the cooking pot. [32] The double-lidded cover includes an inner lid 200 having a plate-shaped body 210, a knob 220 integrally formed at a top center of the body 210, and a plurality of venting holes 230 formed along the perimeter of the body 210. [33] The double-lidded cover also includes an outer lid 300 having a dome-shaped body
310 which slopes downwardly from a top center to a rim thereof, a space 320 formed under the dome-shaped body 310, a handle 340 fixed to one side of an upper surface of the body 310 by means of a bolt 330, and a venting hole 350 extending upward from a
top center of the body 310 and communicating with the space 320.
[34] The apparatus for discharging food smell from a cooking pot includes a venting member 400 fixed to a lower surface of a range hood 500 and having a flexible corrugated tube 410 which is height-adjustable between the outer lid 300 and the range hood 500.
[35] As illustrated in FlGs. 3 through 9, the outer lid 300 has a plurality of air inlet holes
360 for introducing outside air into the space 320 under the body 310. The air inlet holes 360 are formed at the outer peripheral side extending downward from the rim of the body 310 and spaced at equal intervals.
[36] As illustrated in FlGs. 4 to 6, the venting member 400 includes a corrugated tube
410, an upper cap 420, a lower cap 430, a filter 440, a base 450, a fixing band 460 and a tube holder 470.
[37] The upper cap 420 of the venting member 400 has a hollow cylindrical body 422. A plurality of fixing holes 421 are formed on a top rim of the body 422. Also, a plurality of locking pins 423 are attached to a lower part of the outer peripheral sidewall of the body 422. The body 422 has an inner wall 424 extending from the outer wall to form a gap between the inner wall 424 and the outer wall so that an upper part of the corrugated tube 410 can be inserted into the gap. The body 422 also has a door 425 at the outer peripheral sidewall thereof so that part of the inner wall 424 can be seen from outside through the door 425. The upper cap 420 is fixed to the top of the corrugated tube 410.
[38] The lower cap 430 of the venting member 400 has a hollow cylindrical body 431 with locking pins 432 at a lower part of the outer peripheral sidewall thereof. The body 431 has a groove 433 engageable with the locking pins 423 of the upper cap 420 at the inner peripheral wall thereof. Also, the body 431 has an inner wall 434 extending from an outer wall to form a gap therebetween so that a lower part of the corrugated tube 410 can be inserted into the gap. In addition, a door 435 is provided at the outer peripheral sidewall of the body 431 so that part of the inner wall 434 can be seen from outside through the door 435.
[39] The filter 440 of the venting member 400 is inserted into the lower part of the corrugated tube 410, passing by the inner wall 434 of the lower cap 430. The filter 440 has a netted weave at the outer peripheral sidewall thereof.
[40] The base 450 has a through hole at the center thereof, a trench 451 for mounting the filter 440 thereon, and a groove 452 formed at the inner peripheral wall thereof to be engaged with the locking pins 432 of the lower cap 430.
[41] The fixing band 460 is used to fix the upper part of the corrugated tube 410 to the inner wall 424 of the upper cap 420 and the lower part of the corrugated tube 410 to the inner wall 434 of the lower cap 430 by tightening a screw bolt 461.
[42] The tube holder 470 has a cylindrical body 471 with a through hole at the top center thereof and a fixing plate 472 extending outward from the lower end of the body 471 and having a plurality of fixing holes 473. The tube holder 470 also has fixing holes
473 at the top perimeter of the body 471, which correspond to the fixing holes 421 formed on the top rim of the upper cap 420. The tube holder 470 also has an insert tube
474 extending downward at the top center of the cylindrical body 471. When the upper cap 420 is fixed to the tube holder 470, the inner wall 424 of the upper cap 420 is placed behind the insert tube 474.
[43] As illustrated in FlGs. 4 to 7, the filter 440 has a top sealed to prevent dirt from falling into the cooking pot 100 from the corrugated tube 410 or the range hood 500.
[44] The above elements of the apparatus for discharging food smell from a cooking pot can be assembled in the following manner. Referring to FlGs. 3 to 5, the upper part of the corrugated tube 410 is inserted into the gap between the inner wall 424 and the outer wall of the upper cap 420, and then fixed using the fixing band 460. To be specific, the corrugated tube 410 with the fixing band inserted into the upper part thereof is inserted into the gap between the inner wall 424 and the outer wall of the upper cap 420. Then the door 425 formed on the outer peripheral sidewall of the body 422 is opened to tighten up the screw bolt 461 of the fixing band 460, thereby tightly securing the upper part of the corrugated tube 410 to the upper cap 420.
[45] In the same manner, the lower part of the corrugated tube 410 with the fixing band inserted is inserted into the gap between the inner wall 434 and the outer wall of the lower cap 430. Then the door 435 formed on the outer peripheral sidewall of the body 431 is opened to tighten up the screw bolt 461 of the fixing band 460, thereby preventing the lower cap 430 from being separated from the lower part of the corrugated tube 410.
[46] The base 450 with the filter 440 mounted on the trench 451 is fixed to the lower cap
430 which is fixed to the lower part of the corrugated tube 410.
[47] At this time, the locking pins 432 attached to the outer peripheral sidewall of the body 431 of the lower cap 430 are engaged into the groove 452 formed on the inner peripheral wall of the base 450, thereby securing the base 450 to the lower cap 430. The filter 440 is inserted into the lower part of the corrugated tube 410, passing by the inner wall 434 of the lower cap 430.
[48] When the lower cap 430 with the base 450 fixed thereto is pushed up, the corrugated tube 410 is collapsed so that it can be contained in the lower cap 430. At this time, the locking pins 423 attached to the body 422 of the upper cap 420 are engaged into the groove 433 formed at the inner peripheral wall of the lower cap 430, thereby fixing the lower cap 430 to the upper cap 420.
[49] As illustrated in FlGs. 7 to 9, the tube holder 470 is fixed to the top of the air inlet
510 of the range hood 500 by securing fixing means into the fixing holes 473 formed on the fixing plate 472.
[50] Within the tube holder 470 installed on top of the air inlet 510 of the range hood
500, the fixing holes of the upper cap 420 are fitted with the corresponding fixing holes 473 formed at the top perimeter of the tube holder 470. The upper cap 420 is fixed to the tube holder 470 by securing fixing means into the fixing holes 421 and 473. At this time, the inner wall 424 of the upper cap 420 is placed behind the insert tube 474 of the tube holder 470. When the lower cap 430 with the corrugated tube 410 collapsed and contained therein is fixed to the upper cap 420, the bottom of the base 450 which is fixed to the lower cap 430 is located at a higher position than the lower end of the range hood 500. In FlG. 11, the drawing reference numeral 600 represents a frying pan.
[51] The apparatus for discharging food smell from a cooking receptacle functions as follows.
[52] The cooking pot 100 can be heated with the inner lid 200 placed on the cooking pot
100 and the outer lid 300 placed on the inner lid 200.
[53] When the lower cap 430 of the venting member 400 is slightly pulled down to come out from the tube holder 470 installed in the range hood 500, the locking pins 423 of the upper cap 420 are pressed inward so that the lower cap 430 can be separated from the upper cap 420.
[54] With the separation of the lower cap 430 from the upper cap 420, the corrugated tube 410 collapsed and contained within the lower cap 430 is extended due to its own weight. Then the base 450 fixed to the bottom of the lower cap 430 is laid down to cover the venting hole 350 formed at the top center of the outer lid 300.
[55] In such a condition, vapor and food smell generated from the cooking pot 100 which is heated for cooking rise to the venting holes 230 of the inner lid 200 and are eventually discharged to the space 320 under the outer lid 300 through.
[56] The inner lid 200 prevents release of excessive vapor from the cooking pot 100, which facilitates adjustment of the amount of water for cooking during an appropriate cooking time.
[57] Preferably, the inner lid 200 and the outer lid 300 should be made of a transparent material, such as heat-resistant tempered glass, so that the user can see the food in the cooking pot 100 during cooking.
[58] The vapor and food smell generated from the cooking pot 100 rise and enter the space 320 under the dome-shaped body 310 of the outer lid 300. In the space 320, the high-temperature vapor and food smell meet cold air introduced from the air inlet holes 360 formed at the outer peripheral sidewall of the outer lid 300. The vapor and smell rise by convection to the venting hole 350 of the outer lid 300 and are eventually
discharged to the venting member 400 placed on top of the outer lid 300.
[59] The vapor and food smell rising from the venting hole 350 of the outer lid 300 pass through the filter 440 in the base 450 fixed to the lower end of the venting member 400, and move up into the corrugated tube 410 which is fixed in the body 431 of the lower cap 431 using the fixing band 460.
[60] While the vapor and food smell are passing through the filter 440, grease is captured by the netted weave 441 formed at the outer peripheral sidewall of the filter 440. Then the vapor and food smell are discharged to the corrugated tube 410.
[61] The vapor and food smell rise and pass through the insert tube 474 of the tube holder 470 which is fixed to the top of the air inlet 510 of the range hood 500. The vapor and food smell are sucked into the range hood 500 and finally discharged out by a ventilation fan 520 installed on one sidewall of the range hood 500.
[62] FlG. 10 is a cross-sectional view illustrating the influx of cold air into the outer lid and the rise of high-temperature vapor and smell generated from the cooking pot by convection, which results in the discharge of the vapor and smell to the range hood.
[63] After cooking, the user can slightly push up the lower cap 430. Then the corrugated tube 410 is collapsed and contained in the lower cap 430. Also, the locking pins 423 of the upper cap 420 are engaged into the groove 433 formed at the inner peripheral wall of the lower cap 430, thereby fixing the lower cap 430 to the upper cap 420.
[64] Preferably, the top of the filter 440 should be sealed in order to prevent dirt or grime stuck in the range hood 500 or on the inner wall of the corrugated tube 410 from falling into the cooking pot 100 through the venting hole 350 of the outer lid 300.
[65] If the vapor and food smell generated within the cooking pot 100 are not smoothly discharged to the corrugated tube 410 of the venting member 400 due to a filtering problem, the filter 440 should be replaced by new one. To this end, the base 450 fixed to the lower cap 430 with the engagement of the locking pins 432 into the groove 452 should be pulled down.
[66] At this time, the locking pins 432 of the lower cap 430 are pressed inward by the inner wall above the groove 452 of the base 450 and released from the groove 452. As a result, the base 450 can be separated from the lower cap 430.
[67] With the separation of the base 450, the filter 440 mounted in the trench 451 of the base 450 can also be separated.
[68] When the base 450 with a new filter mounted therein is pushed up, the locking pins
432 of the lower cap 430 are engaged again into the groove 452 formed at the inner peripheral wall of the base 450. The filter 440 can be easily replaced in the above manner.
[69] The base 450 prevents stuck-on dirt or grime within the range hood 500 or the venting member 400 from falling into the cooking pot 100.
Mode for the Invention
[70] FlG. 11 is a perspective view of a lid and a venting member applied to another cooking receptacle according to another embodiment of the present invention. The cooking receptacle in FlG. 11 is a frying pan 600 which is generally used to cook fish or meat.
[71] The apparatus for discharging food smell from a lid of a cooking receptacle according to the present invention may include a motor (not shown) installed on top of the venting member 400, i.e. in the range hood 500, so that the corrugated tube can be automatically collapsed or extended by use of a switch or a remote controller. In addition, the inner lid 200 and the outer lid 300 can be formed in various shapes (for example, circular, square or polygonal shape) according to the shapes of the cooking receptacles.
