Abstract

光反射素子、光反射装置、波面曲率変調装置及び光走査型表示装置 技術分野
[0001] 本発明は、光反射素子、光反射装置、波面曲率変調装置及び光走査型表示装置 に関するものである。
背景技術
[0002] 従来、光反射素子としては、例えば、特開平 7— 306367号公報に記載の可変光 学面ユニットが挙げられる。この可変光学面ユニットは、枠状のフレームと、このフレ 一ムの内周部に設けた弾性変形可能な基板と、この基板の表面に入射光を反射す るように形成した金属薄膜からなる光学面と、上記基板の裏面に設けた起歪素子とを 備えている。
発明の開示
[0003] ところで、上記可変光学面ユニットにおいては、光学面が枠状のフレームの内周部 側に位置するため、光学面に入射した光が当該光学面により反射されても、その反 射方向によっては、フレームにより邪魔されて反射方向には円滑には進行できないと いう不具合が生ずる。
[0004] そこで、本発明は、以上のようなことに対処するため、鏡面で反射した光をその反射 方向に円滑に進行させることができる光反射素子、光反射装置、波面曲率変調装置 及び光走査型表示装置を提供することを目的とする。
[0005] 上記目的を達成する為、本発明の一つの側面により提供される光反射素子は、弾性 材料からなる板状弾性部及びこの板状弾性部を支持する支持部を有する基体と、起 歪素子とを備え、前記板状弾性部の両面の一方の面の少なくとも一部は鏡面として 形成されており、前記支持部は、前記基体において、前記板状弾性部の前記鏡面と して形成された面と反対側の面に凹所が形成されるように設けられると共に、前記板 状弾性部を支持しており、前記起歪素子は、前記凹所内にて前記板状弾性部の前 記他方の面に当該板状弾性部を変形可能に設けられている。
[0006] これによれば、起歪素子がその起歪作用により基体の板状弾性部を変形させると、 板状弾性部の一方の面である鏡面に入射する光は、当該板状弾性部によりその表 面形状の変形に応じた方向に反射され得る。
[0007] ここで、起歪素子が基体の凹所内に設けられているため、基体は、その鏡面側にお いて何ら光の進行を妨げる構成部材を有していないこととなる。従って、板状弾性部 により鏡面で反射される光のすべてが、何ら邪魔されることなぐそのまま円滑に進行 し得る。また、当該鏡面は良好な反射面であるから、板状弾性部に入射する光の光 量は減少することなく当該光は鏡面により効率よく反射され得る。
[0008] 本発明のもう一つの側面により提供される光反射装置は、所定方向に延びた板状 弾性部を有する上述に記載の光反射素子からなる第 1及び第 2の光反射素子と、反 射板と、光学系とを備え、前記第 1の光反射素子と前記第 2の光反射素子とは、それ ぞれの鏡面が面の鉛直方向に重複することなく平行に配置されると共に、それぞれ の前記板状弾性部が延びる所定方向が互 、に略直交した位置となるように配置され 、前記光学系は、前記第 1の光反射素子の鏡面に収束光が入射するように配置され 、前記反射板は、前記第 1光反射素子の鏡面により反射された光を前記第 2光反射 素子の鏡面に向け反射するように配設されて 、る。
[0009] これによれば、第 1の光反射素子は、その鏡面にて光学系からの収束光を反射板 に向けて反射する。しかして、反射板は、第 1光反射素子の鏡面により反射された反 射光を第 2光反射素子の鏡面に向け反射すると、このように反射された光は、第 2反 射素子によりその鏡面にて反射される。
[0010] これによれば、光学系からの収束光が、第 1及び第 2の光反射素子の各鏡面と反射 板との間で相互反射されても、第 1及び第 2の光反射素子の各起歪素子の起歪方向 とが互いに異なることから,入射光は,第 1および第 2の光反射素子の各板状弾性鏡 面部での各反射の結果、ほぼ真円形状に近い断面形状を有するような光に近づく。
[0011] その結果、この光は、バランスのとれた良好な略円形の断面形状の光として、第 2 光反射素子の鏡面で反射されて出射し得る。なお、このように第 2光反射素子で反射 された光は、例えば、上記光学系と共役な他の光学系を通り、収束または拡散光、あ るいは平行光として出射し得る。
[0012] 本発明のもう一つの側面により提供される波面曲率変調装置は、上述の光反射素 子と、収束光を前記光反射素子の板状弾性部の鏡面上に入射させるように当該鏡 面に対向して設けられた光学系と、前記光反射素子の起歪素子の起歪方向を制御 する制御手段と、を備え、前記制御手段の制御による前記起歪方向に基づいて前記 板状弾性部を変形させることにより、前記光反射素子が、前記収束光の反射位置を 変化させて前記光学系に向けて反射する。
[0013] これによれば、光学系からの収束光は、制御手段による起歪素子の起歪方向の制 御に基づく板状弾性部の凹所側或いはその反対側への変位 (変形)に応じて、板状 弾性部の鏡面により反射される。このため、板状弾性部の鏡面中央により反射されて 光学系から出射する光の波面曲率が板状弾性部の変位 (変形)に応じて変調され得 る。
[0014] このことは、板状弾性部が、その鏡面と光学系との間の距離を、制御手段による起 歪素子の起歪方向の制御に応じて変化させ、このように変化する上記距離に応じて 、光学系から出射する光の波面曲率を変調し得ることを意味する。
[0015] また、本発明のもう一つの側面により提供される波面曲率変調装置は、上述の光反 射素子と、入射光を前記光反射素子の板状弾性部の鏡面上に入射させるように当 該鏡面に対向して設けられた光学系と、前記光反射素子の起歪素子の起歪方向を 制御する制御手段と、を備え、前記制御手段の制御による前記起歪方向に基づいて 前記板状弾性部を変形させることにより、前記光反射素子が、前記入射光の波面曲 率を変調して前記光学系に向けて反射させる。
[0016] これによれば、板状弾性部が、その鏡面中央付近の湾曲変形の度合いで入射光 の波面曲率を変化させて反射させる。すなわち、入射光は、板状弾性部の鏡面が凹 所の方向に湾曲変形する場合は収束光となり、薄板状弾性部の鏡面が凹所とは反 対側へ湾曲変形する場合は拡散光となり、反射されるのである。
[0017] 本発明のもう一つの側面により提供される光走査型表示装置は、画像情報を含む 画像光を出射する画像光出射手段と、この画像光出射手段からの画像光を 2次元的 に走査する走査手段と、前記画像光出射手段と前記走査手段との間の前記画像光 の光路中に配置される上述に記載の波面曲率変調装置と、を備え、前記波面曲率 変調装置は、前記画像光出射手段から出射される前記画像光の波面曲率を変調し て、当該変調された画像光を前記走査手段に入射させる。
[0018] これによれば、画像光出射手段からの画像光の波面曲率が、波面曲率変調装置に より変調された上で、走査手段により走査される。従って、このように走査された画像 光によれば、画像は、上記変調された画像光の波面曲率に応じたピント位置のもとに 観察者により観察される。
[0019] ここで、波面曲率変調装置を構成する光反射素子は、上述のような基体及び起歪 素子を用いることにより小型に構成されている。従って、波面曲率変調装置も同様に 小型に構成されている。その結果、当該表示装置がより一層コンパクトに構成され得 る。

図 1及び図 2は、本発明の第 1実施形態を示している。本第 1実施形態では、本発 明が光反射装置に適用される一例を示している。本第 1実施形態では、当該光反射 装置は、例えば、網膜走査型表示装置、もしくはバーコードリーダなどにおいて採用 される。具体的には、当該光反射装置は、網膜走査型表示装置においては、例えば 、少なくとも光源を含む前置光学系と光走査系との間に介装されて、前記前置光学 系から出射される画像光の光走査系への反射方向を制御する。
[0024] 当該光反射装置は、図 1及び図 2にて示すごとぐ長手状の基板 10及び長手板状 の起歪素子 20を備えている。基板 10はシリコン基板カゝらなるもので、当該基板 10の 表面 11は研磨面として形成されている。また、基板 10は凹所 12を備えており、この 凹所 12は基板 10にその裏面 13側力 エッチングにより形成されている。なお、基板 10及び起歪素子 20でもって光反射素子を構成する。

[0182] ここで、基体の支持部は弾性を有するように形成されているから、当該支持部はそ の弾性によりばねとして作用する。このため、板状弾性部の凹所側への変形或いは 板状弾性部の凹所とは反対側への変形が、上述した支持部のばね作用でもってより 一層円滑になされ得る。その結果、板状弾性部の鏡面に入射する光の反射方向が、 より一層円滑にかつ確実に制御され得る。
[0183] また、本発明の一つの実施形態では、基体は、凹所をエッチングで形成することに より板状弾性部及び支持部が一体的に形成されたシリコン基板であることを特徴とす る。
[0184] このように基体をシリコン基板で構成し、上記凹所をエッチングにより形成することで 、ステンレス等の金属やその他セラミックス材料と比較して、加工精度を良くすること ができる。また、エッチングでは、起歪素子を形成する凹所の面に容易に面荒れを発 生させることができる。このため、起歪素子の凹所の面に対する密着度合いがより一 層向上する。すなわち、基体に対する起歪素子の良好な密着性を確保し、起歪素子 力 の力の伝達をより効率的にできる。
[0185] また、上述のように基体をシリコン基板で構成することで、当該シリコン基板の面は ウェハーとしての面として研磨面として形成されて 、る。この研磨面は表面荒れの極 めて少ない面であるから、当該研磨面は、そのまま、鏡面としての役割を果たす。従 つて、当該研磨面をそのまま鏡面として利用し、この鏡面における入射光の光量の減 少を防止し得る。

[0188] また、本発明の一つの実施形態では、起歪素子は、板状弾性部の鏡面として形成 された面と反対側の面に、放射状に設けられていることを特徴とする。
[0189] このように起歪素子として放射状の起歪素子を用いることで、当該起歪素子がその 起歪作用を放射状にもたらす。このため、板状弾性部の凹所側或いはその反対側へ の変形が起歪素子の回転対称の起歪作用に基づき略円形形状部位の変形として発 生する。 [0190] 従って、一方向(たとえば素子の長手方向)のみに湾曲して変位する板状弾性部の 鏡面で反射される場合、その鏡面の変形形状に起因する反射光の波面が略楕円形 状となるのに対し、当該反射光の断面形状が上記放射方向において均一化されて 回転対称な真円形状に近づく。その結果、バランスのとれた良好な断面形状をもつ 光として板状弾性部の鏡面にて反射され得る。
[0191] また、本発明の一つの実施形態では、起歪素子は、板状弾性部の鏡面として形成 された面と反対側の面に、所定間隔をおいて互いに対向して 2つ設けられて、互いに 同相で駆動されることを特徴とする。
[0192] これによれば、各起歪素子は、板状弾性部の上記反対側の面のうち上記所定間隔 に対する対応面部位には存在しない。このため、起歪素子が起歪作用を発揮しても 、板状弾性部のうち上記所定間隔に対する対応部位は変形しにくい。
[0193] 従って、光が、板状弾性部の鏡面のうち上記所定間隔に対する対応鏡面部位に入 射したとき、この対応鏡面部位は略平面形状を保ったまま変位するから、反射光の断 面形状も、入射光の断面形状と同じく回転対称な形状を維持する。その結果、バラン スのとれた良好な断面形状をもつ光として板状弾性部の鏡面にて反射され得る。
[0194] また、本発明の一つの実施形態では、前記板状弾性部のうち前記 2つの起歪素子 の間の前記所定間隔の領域に対する対応部位は、前記板状弾性部のその他の部 位よりも剛性の高 、高剛性材料で形成されて 、ることを特徴とする。
[0195] これにより、板状弾性部のうち上記所定間隔に対する対応部位はより一層変形しに くくなり,その平面度を保ちつつ上下に変位することが可能となる。
[0196] また、本発明の一つの実施形態では、前記板状弾性部の鏡面として形成された面 と反対側の面のうち前記 2つの起歪素子の間の前記所定間隔の領域に対する対応 面部位には、前記板状弾性部のその他の面部位よりも剛性の高 、高剛性部材が設 けられて 、ることを特徴とする。
[0197] このように高剛性部材を設けるようにしても、板状弾性部のうち上記所定間隔に対 する対応部位は高剛性部材のためにより一層変形しに《なる。
[0198] また、本発明の一つの実施形態では、起歪素子は、たとえば矩形形状を有する複 数の電極と起歪部材とが積層した構造を有し、複数の電極と前記起歪部材のそれぞ れ同方向に位置する一辺側から電圧が供給されることを特徴とする。
これにより、起歪素子へ電圧を供給する回路をコンパクトにすることができる。

Claims

請求の範囲
[1] 弾性材料からなる板状弾性部及びこの板状弾性部を支持する支持部を有する基 体と、起歪素子とを備え、
前記板状弾性部の両面の一方の面の少なくとも一部は鏡面として形成されており、 前記支持部は、前記基体において、前記板状弾性部の前記鏡面として形成された 面と反対側の面に凹所が形成されるように設けられると共に、前記板状弾性部を支 持しており、
前記起歪素子は、前記凹所内にて前記板状弾性部の前記他方の面に当該板状 弾性部を変形可能に設けられていることを特徴とする光反射素子。
[2] 前記基体に前記鏡面として形成された面と反対側の面から前記起歪素子に対向す るように設けられて前記基体を支持する支持部材を備えることを特徴とする請求項 1 に記載の光反射素子。
[3] 前記板状弾性部の前記鏡面は、当該板状弾性部の前記一方の面を研磨面とし、こ の研磨面に反射膜を薄膜状にコーティングすることで形成されていることを特徴とす る請求項 1に記載の光反射素子。
[4] 前記支持部も、弾性を有するように形成されて 、ることを特徴とする請求項 1に記載 の光反射素子。
[5] 前記基体は、前記凹所をエッチングで形成することにより前記板状弾性部及び前 記支持部が一体的に形成されたシリコン基板であることを特徴とする請求項 1に記載 の光反射素子。
[6] 前記基体は、金属材料により形成されて 、ることを特徴とする請求項 1に記載の光 反射素子。
[7] 前記板状弾性部は所定方向に延びた部材であることを特徴とする請求項 1に記載 の光反射素子。
[8] 前記起歪素子は、前記鏡面として形成された面と反対側の面に、前記所定方向に 延びるように設けられて 、ることを特徴とする請求項 7に記載の光反射素子。
[9] 前記起歪素子は、前記鏡面として形成された面と反対側の面に、放射状に設けら れて 、ることを特徴とする請求項 1に記載の光反射素子。
[10] 前記起歪素子は、前記鏡面として形成された面と反対側の面に、所定間隔をおい て互いに対向して 2つ設けられて、互いに同相で駆動されることを特徴とする請求項
1に記載の光反射素子。
[11] 前記板状弾性部のうち前記 2つの起歪素子の間の前記所定間隔の領域に対する 対応部位は、前記板状弾性部のその他の部位よりも剛性の高 、高剛性材料で形成 されていることを特徴とする請求項 10に記載の光反射素子。
[12] 前記鏡面として形成された面と反対側の面のうち前記 2つの起歪素子の間の前記 所定間隔の領域に対する対応面部位には、前記板状弾性部のその他の面部位より も剛性の高い高剛性部材が設けられていることを特徴とする請求項 10に記載の光反 射素子。
[13] 前記起歪素子は、矩形形状を有する複数の電極と起歪部材とが積層した構造を有 し、前記複数の電極と前記起歪部材のそれぞれ同方向に位置する一辺側から電圧 が供給されることを特徴とする請求項 1に記載の光反射素子。
[14] 請求項 7に記載の光反射素子からなる第 1及び第 2の光反射素子と、反射板と、光 学系とを備え、
前記第 1の光反射素子と前記第 2の光反射素子とは、それぞれの鏡面が面の鉛直 方向に重複することなく平行に配置されると共に、それぞれの前記板状弾性部が延 びる所定方向が互いに略直交した位置となるように配置され、
前記光学系は、前記第 1の光反射素子の鏡面に収束光が入射するように配置され 前記反射板は、前記第 1光反射素子の鏡面により反射された光を前記第 2光反射 素子の鏡面に向け反射するように配設されていること、を特徴とする光反射装置。
[15] 請求項 1に記載の光反射素子と、
収束光を前記光反射素子の板状弾性部の鏡面上に入射させるように当該鏡面に 対向して設けられた光学系と、
前記光反射素子の起歪素子の起歪方向を制御する制御手段と、を備え、 前記制御手段の制御による前記起歪方向に基づいて前記板状弾性部を変形させ ることにより、前記光反射素子が、前記収束光の反射位置を変化させて前記光学系 に向けて反射させることを特徴とする波面曲率変調装置。
[16] 請求項 1に記載の光反射素子と、
入射光を前記光反射素子の板状弾性部の鏡面上に入射させるように当該鏡面に 対向して設けられた光学系と、
前記光反射素子の起歪素子の起歪方向を制御する制御手段と、を備え、 前記制御手段の制御による前記起歪方向に基づいて前記板状弾性部を変形させ ることにより、前記光反射素子が、前記入射光の波面曲率を変調して前記光学系に 向けて反射させることを特徴とする波面曲率変調装置。
[17] 画像情報を含む画像光を出射する画像光出射手段と、
この画像光出射手段からの画像光を 2次元的に走査する走査手段と、 前記画像光出射手段と前記走査手段との間の前記画像光の光路中に配置される 請求項 15に記載の波面曲率変調装置と、を備え、
前記波面曲率変調装置は、前記画像光出射手段から出射される前記画像光の波 面曲率を変調して、当該変調された画像光を前記走査手段に入射させることを特徴 とする光走査型表示装置。
