Definitions

  • the present invention falls within the elements and devices that are part of the manual fire extinguishers.
  • manual extinguishers consist, in general, of a metal container, to which a valve whose opening is manually operated, a hose with a spray nozzle and a support is threaded. Inside the container an extinguishing agent and a propellant gas are introduced.
  • the assembly perfectly fulfills its function when used, but if there is no one to activate it, it is completely useless against fire and an added danger due to its possibility of explosion. To avoid this possibility, some high pressure extinguishers incorporate a pressure / temperature seal that releases the propellant gas thus avoiding the danger of explosion in these situations.
  • Patents PO434168, E97101877, E96401032 are known.
  • the present invention focuses on the improvement and modification of the current valves and the approach of a new valve that allows the proposed operation.
  • the present invention firstly proposes modifications that, without interfering with the normal operation of the current valves, also allow their operation automatically.
  • the current valves (fig. 1) have an axial bore (3), in the wall of the threaded neck (7) of the valve for its connection to the metal container, which communicates the upper part of the extinguisher container (8) (where it finds the propellant gas) with the conduit (6) where the safety valve, the pressure gauge or the pressure / temperature seal is housed, where appropriate, which allows the pressure of the propellant gas to be transmitted to these elements.
  • the pressure closing mechanism or part (4) is located in the neck (7) that threads the valve to the extinguisher so that any element subsequent to that part (4) is isolated from the pressure internal extinguisher
  • all the extinguishers incorporate a probe tube (5) internally threaded into the neck of the valve (7), which prevents the propellant gas from escaping without pushing and dragging the extinguishing product first when the valve is operated.
  • This tube (5) probe creates an insulated zone (8) for the propellant gas and an obligatory route of this so that, when opening the closing piece (4) of the pressure of the valve, the gas at its outlet pushes and drags the extinguishing product In the automatic firing of the extinguisher, the gas will also follow this path so that the extinguishing agent is dragged.
  • Example 2 modification that can achieve the same result (fig. 3):
  • a conventional valve will simply expel the propellant gas, upon reaching the extinguisher a certain temperature or pressure, leaving the extinguishing agent inside the extinguisher vessel and without this propellant expulsion having obviously no effect against fire.
  • Example 3 The new valve (fig. 4) can maintain or not the connection, by means of a drill (3), that joins the space of the container with propellant gas (8) and the space (6) where the pressure gauge is located since its sole purpose is to prevent the ducting of the extinguishing agent, by operating the extinguisher manually or automatically, from the conduit that allows the pressure gauge to receive the propellant gas pressure.
  • This new valve has the opening actuation (20) in the transverse direction of the coupling (7) to the extinguisher vessel, that is to say according to the output axis of the gas from the extinguisher to the projection hose and with a closing for pressure.
  • This arrangement allows to easily create, and with the minimum machining, a space directly connected to the probe tube and whether it is desired independent or not of the pressure gauge space.
  • This space houses: the closing mechanism of the valve and the automatic firing, the manometer if desired, and can be connected to a suitable automatic projection nozzle or to the extinguisher's own nozzle if the pressure / temperature seal is placed in a bridge closure of the valve or in the same valve closure.
