Abstract

La présente invention concerne un procédé pour déterminer objectivement si un patient souffre de douleur chronique. Ce procédé consiste d'abord à observer une multiplicité de personnes qui ne souffrent pas de douleur chronique, puis à la soumettre à un stimulus de douleur donné. Des émissions de radiofréquence (RF) produites par le cerveau des personnes qui ne souffrent pas de douleur chronique lorsqu'elles sont soumises au stimulus de douleur sont mesurées et un graphique est établi sous forme d'une image d'IRM fonctionnelle moyenne pour toutes les personnes, qui reflète de manière statistique une moyenne d'émissions RF produites par le cerveau des personnes qui ne souffrent pas de douleur chronique lorsqu'elles sont soumises au stimulus de douleur. Le même stimulus de douleur est ensuite appliqué au patient, les émissions RF produites par le cerveau du patient lorsque le stimulus de douleur est appliqué sont détectées, puis les émissions RF du cerveau du patient sont comparées au graphique, afin de déterminer si les émissions RF du cerveau du patient sont statistiquement différentes des émissions RF approximativement moyennes des personnes qui ne souffrent pas de douleur chronique sur le graphique. Si tel est le cas, on peut conclure, sans intervention consciente du patient, que le patient souffre de douleur chronique. Ce procédé peut être utilisé pour vérifier des réclamations d'assurance ou d'autre compensation émises par des personnes qui revendiquent qu'elles souffrent de douleur chronique pouvant les empêcher de remplir certaines fonctions, en particulier un travail.
