Description

B E S C H R E I B U N G DESCRIPTION
The invention relates to a device for coating paper or board webs with two axially parallel juxtaposed rollers which form a gap through which the paper or board web is guided, with an application and metering system for at least one of the rollers, the metered film of coating material is applied to the roll surface, which is delivered in the gap to the paper or board web, and with an edge scraper device with a scraper, in the direction of rotation of the roller behind the application and dosing arranged in at least one edge region of the roller applied Abrading coating material.
For finishing paper or board webs with glue, starch or pigment paints, so-called film presses are known as coating devices, which have two rollers which are mounted axially parallel in a frame and form a gap through which the web is guided. The coating material is initially applied to one or both rollers by an application and metering system associated with at least one roller, which then delivers it to the web in the coating gap between the two rollers. Film presses are particularly suitable for double-sided coating of a web, therefore, usually each of the two rollers on a job and dosing on. A coating device of the generic type is described in DE-A-44 31 202.
In order that the paper or board web can be coated over its entire width, which is up to 11 m, the rollers extend in their axial length and the application and metering systems also at least over the entire maximum web width, and usually also over this out. In order to avoid problems with coating material which is not absorbed by the web at the lateral ends of the rolls not covered by the web, it is known to arrange an edge scraper device in each of these regions. The edge scraper device arranged in the direction of rotation behind the application and metering system and in front of the gap scrapes the coating material from the roll surface again at the respective edge. The Edge scrapers can also be used to create a web with coating-free edges. Then they are slightly wider than the area of the rolls not covered by the web.
Edge doctor devices are known in practice, which contain a blade-shaped scraper made of spring plate. The scraper is set at an angle α smaller than 90 ° against the tangent at the contact line to the roller, wherein the angle of attack is measured from the tangent to the roller in the direction of rotation of the scraper. At an angle α of less than 90 °, the scraper operates sluggish, it forms an acute-angled inlet wedge to the roller.
Towing scrapers are pushed away from the roller during operation, especially at high speeds, by the coating material with very high forces. They must therefore be pressed against the roller for a reliable function with correspondingly large contact forces. The wedge-shaped geometry of the inlet gap has the further disadvantage that the scraped coating material is not safely dissipated. To leave the inlet gap, the scraped-off coating material must reverse its direction of movement. When coating with pigment paints, abrasive caking forms on the scraper edge at the point of reversal, from which the roll surface, usually made of rubber-like elastomer, is damaged.
The invention is therefore based on the object to improve a device of the generic type so that a safe scraping of coating material at high speeds without the disadvantages described above is possible.
This object is achieved in that the scraper of the edge scraper device made of polyethylene or a plastic with comparable properties and as a stabbing scraper with an angle between 140 ° and 175 °, preferably between 160 ° and 165 °, to the tangent of Roller is employed, and that between the application and metering system and the scraper, a return seal is arranged, which prevents running back of the scraped coating material for application and Dosiersys¬ system.
A scraper arranged with a sharp end does not have the disadvantages of a sluggishly arranged scraper as stated in the introduction. The features according to the invention ensure that the scraper arranged in a stinging manner does not penetrate the rubber coating of the Roller buried and that the scraped coating material does not run back to Auf¬ lags and dosing and thus disturbs the order of a metered film.
The subclaims contain preferred, as particularly advantageous embodiments, a coating device according to the invention.
Dabei zeigen:The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to a preferred embodiment. Showing:

The coating apparatus shown in the drawing is integrated in a paper machine. It consists of two axially parallel side by side in a frame rotatably ge stored rollers 1, 2, of which one roller is fixed, the other roller circumferentially ge the stationary roller is mounted pressable. Both rollers 1, 2 are connected to a rotary drive with which they can be rotated in opposite directions in the direction of the arrows 3, 4 about their longitudinal axes. Both rolls 1, 2 are gummed on their outer surface. When pivoting the rollers 1, 2 against each other, a press nip 5, through which the paper or board web 6 to be coated - in the example coming from above - is guided.
At each roller 1, 2, an application and metering system 7, 8 is arranged on the opposite side to the press nip 5, which can be pivoted to the respective roller 1, 2. From each application and dosing system 7, 8, coating material, in example pigment coating paint, is first applied in excess to the lateral surface of the associated roller 1, 2 and then scraped off again down to the desired film thickness. The film of coating material applied to the rollers 1, 2 is delivered to the web 6 in the press nip 5.
The application and metering systems 7, 8 are fastened in a known manner in each case to an an¬ pivotable scraper bar 9, 10 and constructed in a known manner: they each contain an open to the roller 1, 2 application chamber 11, which consists of a distribution pipe 12th Coating material is added. On the outlet side, the application chamber 11 is closed by a metering system, that as a metering a doctor rod 13th contains. The doctor bar 13 is held in a doctor bed 14, which is supported by a pressure hose 15 in known manner on its rear side. The doctor rod 13 is pressed against the respective roller 1, 2, that sets the desired film thickness of coating material on the surface thereof. On the inlet side, the application chamber 11 is delimited by an overflow plate 16 which leaves an overflow gap for the respective roller 1, 2, through which the excess of coating material emerges and is collected by a collecting trough 17. In the direction of rotation behind each application and metering system and in front of the press nip 5, an edge scraper device 18, 19 is arranged at each end of each of the two rollers 1, 2. There are thus a total of four edge scraper devices, of which two are shown in FIG. The edge scraper devices 18, 19 have the same structure. Her structure will be explained in more detail on the device 19 shown enlarged in Figure 2 on the roller 2:
The edge scraper device 19 contains a limited elastic scraper 20, which is made in the form of a blade made of polyethylene or a plastic with comparable properties. The width of the scraper 20 measured in the axial direction of the roller 2 is usually 50 mm to 300 mm. In operation, the scraper 20 as a stabbing Scha¬ ber at an angle α to the tangent at the point of contact to the roller 2 ange¬ provides, which measured from the tangent in the direction of rotation of the roller 2 140 ° -175 °, preferably 160 ° - 165 ° , The thickness of the scraper 20 is 2 mm - 7 mm. Preferably, the scraper 20 is undercut at its adjacent to the roller 2 edge so that the wading angle corresponds to the angle of attack. The result is a contact surface, which is parallel to the roller tangent, of the scraper 20 with the roller 2.
In the direction of rotation of the rollers 1, 2 behind the application and metering system 7, 8 and in front of the scraper 20, a return seal is arranged in each case, which prevents running back of abge¬ scraped coating material, without the incoming layer of Be¬ coating material is appreciably affected. The width of the return seal in Achs¬ direction of the rollers 1, 2 corresponds at least to the width of the scraper 20, preferably it is slightly wider. The return seal is formed in the preferred embodiment of a sluggish blade 21, which does not act as a scraper, so shaved no coating material. So that the blade 21 floats on the film on Beschichtungsma¬ material, it is employed at a shallow angle of less than 30 ° against the tangent to the rollers 2. Preferably, it is made of a thin spring steel of, for example, 0.3 mm thick. As an alternative to an elastic blade 21, resilient blade-like or wedge-shaped plastic parts which float on the film without coating material and thus prevent the material scraped off by the scraper 20 from running back without the use of coating material can be used as the return seal. Under certain operating conditions, particularly when coating at very high speeds, the return seal may also be formed as a rigid gap designed to prevent return of coating material without affecting the film passing therethrough.
Preferably, the scraper 20 and the return seal (here blade 21) are attached to an open to the roller 1, 2 out, otherwise closed and provided with a paint outlet box 22, wherein the return seal (blade 21) the box on the inlet side, the scraper 20 the box 22 bounded on the outlet side. The box 22 absorbs the scraped-off coating material as splash protection and conducts it in a controlled manner via a color sequence not shown in FIG. Thus, not only a return of scraped-off coating material to the application and metering system 7, 8 is prevented, but also any impairment of the application and contamination of the coating device due to spray-coating paint.
The box 22 with the parts fastened thereto can preferably be pivoted apart from the associated application and metering system 7, 8 against the respective roller 1, 2 in order to bring the scraper 20 and the blade 21 into their operating position. Independently of the application and dosing system 7, 8, the contact pressure of the scraper 20 can thus be adjusted to constant values and its wear compensated. To make this possible, the box 22 is pivotally mounted on a holder 23 which is fixed on the top of the scraper bar 10. On its rear side, a preferred pneumatic piston-cylinder unit 24 engages, which is likewise fastened to the scraper bar 10. The box 22 with the scraper 20 and the return seal can be so swing together with the scraper 10 and the attached order and dosing 8 in a maintenance position, on the other hand, an additional pivotal movement of the box 22 to the roller 2 out with a stationary scraper 10 is possible.
To prevent caking of coating color in the box 22, this preferably contains a moistening device. The moistening device consists of mist nozzles arranged in the box 22, which spray water in order to keep the interior of the box sufficiently moist in order to avoid sticking.
