Definitions
- the present invention relates to the field of fitting building units and build- ing modules whose walls, floors and ceilings comprise insulating material so as to provide permanent dwellings.
- the object of the invention is to provide a time-saving method and arrangement primarily for erecting a permanent building, although also for enabling simpler types of building units to be readily erected quickly.
- the present invention relates to an arrangement for fitting a building unit that comprises a floor section, at least one wall section that is pivotal about a floor joint and a ceiling section.
- the arrangement includes adjacent the wall section a first attachment point for a lifting device, for example in the form of a chain, which can only transfer tension forces.
- This attachment point can be placed laterally at any selected height along the wall extending from the floor up to the ceiling, but is preferably placed at floor level.
- the ceiling section is provided with a corresponding second attachment point which is positioned laterally in the centre above the first attachment point, in a contemplated erected position of the wall section.
- the first attachment point is preferably placed inside a lifting duct which is affixed to the wall section and which extends vertically from the floor level to the ceiling level of the wall section.
- the total inner volume of the lifting duct is sufficiently large to enclose the entire lifting device when erection of the wall or the wall sections has been terminated.
- the wall section is provided at floor level with a restricting device which functions to prevent the wall section from being swung out from a vertical position.
- the wall section is provided at its ceiling level with an abutment against which the ceiling section is intended to rest subsequent to having lifted and affixed the wall section/wall sections to the floor section and the ceiling section has been lowered down against the abutment.
- the length of the lifting device When the first attachment point is placed at the upper end of the wall section, it suffices for the length of the lifting device to exceed the height of the wall section. On the other hand, if the first attachment point is placed at the lower end of the wall section, the length of the lifting device shall exceed twice the height of the wall section.
- the invention also relates to a method of fitting a building unit in a building structure.
- a building unit that comprises a floor section in the lowermost position of the unit, a pivotal wall section positioned on the floor section, and a ceiling section position uppermost in the unit is erected from a collapsed state by lifting the ceiling section essentially transversely, wherein a lifting device is connected between the ceiling section and the wall section and the wall section is caused to be lifted pivo- tally about a floor joint between the floor section and the wall section through an angle of 90° between the floor section and the wall section, where after the wall section is fixed to the floor section, where after the ceiling section is then lowered down against the wall section and fixed thereto.
- the lifting device When lowering the ceiling section, the lifting device is gathered under the force of gravity in a lifting duct which functions to gather up the lifting device and also to align the lifting device along the wall section so as to achieve optimal lifting of said section.
- the upper edge of the lifting duct is also used as an abutment for the ceiling section.
- the lifting duct will preferably have the form of a rectangular tubular element.
- Figure 1a shows one end of a collapsed building unit according to the present invention
- Figure 1b shows in more detail one side of the building unit shown in Figure 1a
- Figure 2 illustrates the building unit according to Figure 1a and shows two wall sections in the process of being raised
- Figure 3 shows the building unit according to Figure 2 with the wall sections in a raised state
- Figure 4 shows the building unit upon completion of fitting the building unit, and shows the ceiling section lowered against the wall sections
- Figure 5 is a detailed illustration of a ceiling corner V according to Figure 4;
- Figure 6 is a detailed view of a floor corner VI according to Figure 4.
- Figure 1a illustrates a building unit collapsed in a transportation state and comprising a ceiling section 1 , a floor section 2 and two wall sections 3.
- the ceiling section rests on a number of removable transportation supports 4 which are removed when lifting of the ceiling section 1 commences.
- Each of the wall sections 3 is connected to the floor section 2 via a floor joint 5 that enables the wall sections to be rotated through an angle of at least 90° from a collapsed position parallel with the floor section to a vertical position at right angles to the floor section 2.
- the angle of rotation is restricted to solely 90°, although other embodiments that lie within the scope of the present invention may permit greater angles of rotation temporarily.
- FIG. 1b is a detailed illustration of one end of the collapsed building unit, wherewith the floor joint 5 is located between the floor section 2 and the wall sec- tion 3.
- the wall section includes a rectangular tubular profile, which serves as a lifting duct 7.
- the lifting duct extends vertically from the floor end 8 of the wall section to the ceiling end 9 of said wall section inside the insulation 6.
- a lifting device 10 which may consist of a chain or a wire and which is secured at one end to a first attachment point 11 located in the lifting duct 7 or at the end of the lifting duct at floor level.
- the other end of the lifting device 10 is secured to a second attachment point 12 located laterally immediately, i.e. centrally, above the first attachment point in a contemplated erected position of the wall section.
- the lifting device functions to exert an erecting force against the upper end of the lifting duct 7 when the ceiling section 1 is lifted transversely upwards.
- the removable transportation support 4 is also shown in the figure.
- the ceiling section 1 also includes a number of lifting eyes 13 for lifting the section transversally.
- Figure 2 shows erection of the building unit in a half-way state, this state being achieved by lifting the ceiling structure 1 transversely and causing the lifting devices 10 to exert a pulling force which causes the upper ends of the wall sections 3 to be lifted and the entire sections to be therewith rotated outwards about the floor joints 5.
- Figure 3 shows the state reached when the transversal lifting movement of the ceiling section 1 has been continued until the wall sections 3 have been raised completely by the lifting devices 10.
- the wall sections 3 are affixed to the floor section 2 in this raised state of the wall sections, by means of a screw joint applied between wall section and floor section.
- each wall section includes along its upper side an abutment 31 against which the ceiling section 1 is intended to rest when the ceiling section is later lowered onto the wall sections 3.
- the strength of the abutment is achieved by virtue of the upper end of the lifting duct 7 also forming part of the abutment 31.
- the ceiling section has been lowered down onto the wall sections and now rests on said abutments 31. Fitting of the wall sections 3 and the ceiling section 1 of the building unit is now completed by virtue of the ceiling section being affixed to the wall sections. This is achieved with the aid of a group of bolt joints 41 , which results in moment-rigid corner.
- FIG. 5 shows the corner V according to Figure 4 between the wall section 3 and the ceiling section 1 subsequent to fitting the building unit.
- the figure clearly shows the abutment 31 at the end of a lifting duct 7.
- the lifting duct has been shown throughout the figures with its two ends in section transversely to the direction of the lifting duct, so as to indicate the shape of the duct and also to show where the end of the duct is situated, due to the fact that the lifting duct 7 in general is obscured in the figures by the insulation 6.
- the figure also illustrates more clearly than Figure 4 the group 41 of bolt joints that join the ceiling section 1 with the wall section 3 in a moment-rigid fashion.
- the lifting device 10 is shown in broken lines in the lifting duct 7, which is also shown in broken lines, with the second end 52 of the lifting device 10 fastened to the second attachment point 12 in the ceiling section 1.
- the figure also shows the construction of the ceiling section 1 including a false ceiling 53, spacer elements 54, main insulation 55, a roof insulation 56 and roof 57.
- the figure shows the construction of the wall section 3 with its inner wall 58, its outer wall 59 and its main insulation 60.
- the figure also shows joint insulations 61 , 62, partly in the ceiling section and partly in the wall section.
- Figure 6 shows the corner, VI in Figure 4, between the wall section 3 and the floor section 2 subsequent to fitting the building unit.
- the floor joint 5 is mounted on the floor section via a steel angular fitting 63.
- the wall section 3 is locked against vertical rotational movement by a bolt joint 64 located between an angle iron 65 in the wall section and a floor beam 66 in the floor section.
- the wall section 3 also includes a restricting element 67 in the form of parts of the wall section that overlap the side edges of the floor section at floor level to prevent further rotation of the wall section outwards from the illustrated vertical position.
- the rectangular lower end of the lifting duct 7 at which the first attachment point 11 for the lifting device 10 is located.
- the ceiling section has been lowered down and lies on the abutments, wherewith the lifting device 10 has dropped down into the lifting duct 7 and there collected in a bundle 68 in the lower part of the duct 7.
- the lifting device can be released from its attachment points and removed completely from the lifting duct when fitting of the building unit has been completed.
