Definitions
- the object of the invention is a drinking cap Tor hermetically sealing a bottle or container containing a liquid, preferably soft drink, and for facilitating the consumption of the liquid therefrom.
- a cap body is screwed on the neck of the bottle and the cap body has an arched dome adjacent to the rim of said cap body, where said rim is adapted for facilitating the manual mounting of the cap on said bottle.
- a recess is formed in the dome, said recess comprising a hole and a seat face beside said hole, where said hole passes through the cap body and in a screwed-in state of the cap establishes connection between the interior of the bottle and the environment, with said seat face also comprising a breathing hole.
- a straw is inserted into the hole of the cap body, one end of said straw extending into the bottle and the other end of said straw projecting from the cap body, said projecting end adapted for being folded into recess.
- a lid is rotatably joined to the cap body, said lid having a shape conforming to the convex shape of the dome and being adapted for rotating between two terminal positions about an axis formed in the cap body, with, in one of said terminal positions said lid staying entirely clear of said recess and in the other terminal position fully covering said recess and pressing the straw inside the recess against the breathing hole disposed on the seat face.
- Known-art closure caps for containers include the cap described in the document WO 0034142.
- the container has a fixing flange
- the cap comprises a cover mounted on a side skirt, with the cap comprising snap-on means in its lower part and a removable tear band in its upper part, produced over a portion of the periphery of the skirt, where the tear band ensures temporary linkage with the cover by forming, on the matching portion, a hinge, and with said tear band also serving as an indicator of originality.
- the cover of the cap bears a locking tab that has its free end provided with a retractable fin that leans on the flange of the container in a fully open position.
- the cap is capable of storing the drink hermetically in the container and also of indicating the integrity of the container, but it is rather difficult to use.
- Document WO 0230776 discloses a plastic closure cap provided with an inner sealing skirt.
- the cap comprises an end wall, whereon project in the same direction an outer skirt comprising internally means for fixing the cap on the container neck and a sealing skirt, where said sealing skirt cooperates by tightening with the inner surface of the neck to seal the latter.
- the inner skirt diverges at least externally in the form of a truncated cone from its base towards its free end, its external diameter proximate to its free end being larger than the nominal internal diameter of the neck of the container.
- the cap sufficiently performs the function of hermetic closure but does not enable the user to take in the drink comfortably, without the aid of further apparatus after the cap has been opened.
- Document US 6,321,931 B1 discloses an apparatus for aiding the consumption of soft drinks.
- the apparatus is assembled of a drinking cup and a cap comprising a drinking spout.
- a double valve is disposed between the drinking cup and the cap. The valve, actuated by negative pressure created by the act of sucking at the spout, enables the outflow of the drink from the cup. After the sucking action has ceased, the valve inverts and blocks the way of the fluid so that it cannot flow out from the cup.
- the apparatus can be used easily even by young children.
- a major drawback of the solution is that in order to access the contents of the cup the user has to raise and lean back his or her head.
- using the apparatus can increase the danger of accident.
- the document US 5,897,013 describes a closure cap and straw for drinking cups.
- the drinking cup comprises a container and a lid mounted thereon.
- a straw, assembled from two segments, is inserted into the container through the lid.
- the straw is assembled by means of a retaining element from a flexibly bendable upper or drinking segment and a longer lower segment. In operating position the drink can be sipped from the cup through the straw.
- the straw After use the straw can be pressed against a closure surface equipped with a breathing hole by means of a sealing cap rotatably disposed on the lid, resulting in the closure of the drinking cup that prevents the outflow of the drink.
- the drinking cup can be used easily, and makes it possible for the user to drink the contents of the cup without focusing attention on the drinking process.
- the apparatus can be applied for the short-term storage of the drink filled therein, and provides that the contents of the cup can be consumed without the aid of any further apparatus.
- the apparatus according to the document is not capable of preserving its contents for an extended period of time, it cannot be used for packing soft drinks that usually have relatively long shelf-life.
- the object of our invention is to enhance and extend the applicability of plastic bottles that are conventionally used for storing soft drinks by providing conventional bottles with a closure device suitable both for storage and drinking purposes.
- Our invention is based on the recognition that providing the sealed closure of known enhanced-usability closure caps may render it possible to use these caps with conventional plastic bottles in such a way that soft drinks are preserved for the full length of their shelf-life.
- the aim of the invention is achieved by the bottle cap having the features described in the first paragraph of this description that is characterised by that it has a skirt joined to the rim of the cap body. The threading applied for fastening the cap on the neck of the bottle is disposed in the interior of the cap body, on the inner surface of a sleeve disposed concentrically with the skirt.
- bottles closed by the cap are capable of storing soft drinks for a prolonged period of time. To achieve that, contact between the interior of the bottle and the environment must be prevented.
- the interior of the bottle may come into contact with the environment through the inner cavity of the straw.
- a first, inner sealing means is applied at the drinking end of the straw.
- Hermetic sealing is provided by closing the drinking portion of the straw that is protruding from the bottle.
- the end of the straw may be closed by welding or adhesive bonding, or alternatively the straw may be produced with a closed end.
- a plug inserted into the end of the drinking portion may also be suitable for sealing the straw.
- the closed end of the straw ensures that the interior of the bottle does not come into contact with the environment.
- the first, inner sealing means can function as a sign of originality, indicating that the straw has been opened.
- Contact between the interior of the bottle and the environment is also brought about by a breathing hole opening onto a seat face, said breathing hole being included for noise-free drinking.
- the first, outer sealing means can also be implemented differently.
- the straw can be stuck to the seat face in such a way that it can be readily ripped off therefrom.
- the first, outer sealing means can be realized such that the seat face has a convex shape against which the straw can be pressed. It is important that the straw applicable for the present invention should be made of a material sufficiently flexible to endure numerous folding cycles without losing the capability of providing hermetic closure in the through hole of the cap body.
- a third sealing means is disposed between the outer surface of the straw and the hole of the cap body.
- the straw may consist of two portions, with the drinking portion thereof being made of silicone rubber, and the other, transfer portion extending into the bottle, of a more rigid material such as polyethylene.
- the conically narrowing end of the polyethylene tube may be inserted into end of the silicone tube and fitted by tightening into the conically narrowing hole of the cap body.
- the straw may be a single-piece tube made of flexible material.
- the straw may be configured to include a truncated cone shaped section that, inserted into the conical hole of the cap body, acts as third sealing means and provides sealed closure.
- the inventive cap can be screwed on a plastic bottle, preferably a PET bottle.
- the cap has a cap body that is adapted for being screwed on the neck of the bottle, with a sleeve being disposed in the interior of the cap body parallel with the axis of said cap body and concentrically with the rim thereof.
- the inner surface of the sleeve has a threading by means of which the cap can be screwed on the neck of the bottle.
- a second sealing means adapted for cooperating with the neck of the bottle, is located in the interior of the cap body.
- the second sealing means is disposed between the end surface of the neck of the bottle and the base of the sleeve, and is made up by the end surface of the neck and an inner collar that projects from the cap body in the same direction as the sleeve and comes into contact with the inner surface of the neck.
- the second sealing means comprises a sealing ring projecting from the base portion of the cap body toward the sleeve, in a position parallel with the inner collar.
- a further object of the invention is a configuration of the cap having the features enumerated in the first paragraph of the present description wherein the cap body comprises a skirt joined to the rim of the cap body. The threading applied for fastening the cap on the neck of the bottle is disposed in the interior of the cap body, on the inner surface of a sleeve disposed concentrically with the skirt.
- bottles sealed with a cap of this configuration are capable both of storing the soft drink and of enabling users to drink the contents of the bottle easily and comfortably.
- hermetic closure can be provided by separating the interior of the bottle from the environment.
- the end surface of the neck of the bottle is provided with a first sealing means.
- This sealing means is located on the neck of the bottle and is established after the drink has been filled into the bottle.
- the first sealing means completely seals off the interior of the bottle and ensures that hermetic closure is maintained until the bottle is first opened.
- the first sealing means can be implemented as a sealing film attached to the end surface of the neck of the bottle by adhesive bonding.
- the sealing film may also act as an indicator of originality.
- the bottle cap according to the invention has a cap body that is adapted for being screwed on the neck of the bottle, with a sleeve being disposed in the interior of the cap body in a position parallel with the axis of the cap body and concentric with the rim of the cap body and the skirt that is adjacent to the rim.
- the inner surface of the sleeve has a threading by means of which the cap can be screwed on the neck of the bottle.
- a second sealing means is formed by the end surface of the sleeve and the skirt surface of the neck of the bottle.
- the sealing film is removed before the bottle is first used, it is the second sealing means that provides sealed closure between the neck of the bottle and the cap during the consumption of the drink contained in the bottle.
- the straw is inserted into the hole of the cap body, after which the drink can be sipped through the straw in the way described above.
- the conical section of the hole of the cap body and the conical portion of the straw together form a third sealing means, which becomes effective only after the straw has been inserted into the cap body.
- a further object of the invention is a configuration of the cap having the features enumerated in the first paragraph of the present description wherein the cap body comprises a skirt joined to the rim and the threading applied for fastening the cap on the neck of the bottle is disposed in the interior of the cap body, on the inner surface of a sleeve disposed concentrically with the skirt.
- the cap body comprises a skirt joined to the rim and the threading applied for fastening the cap on the neck of the bottle is disposed in the interior of the cap body, on the inner surface of a sleeve disposed concentrically with the skirt.
- For sealed closure between the bottle and the cap sealing means effective both prior to and during the consumption of the drink from the bottle, are applied, with a first sealing means being disposed in the recess of the cap body, a second sealing means being disposed between the neck of the bottle and the cap body, and a third sealing means being disposed between the hole in the cap body and the straw.
- the first sealing means is disposed inside
- Fig. 1 is the axonometric view of the cap body according to the invention
- Fig. 2 shows the longitudinal cross-section of a preferred embodiment of the bottle cap according to the invention
- Figs. 3a and 3b are cross-sectional views of sealing means disposed on the drinking portion of the straw
- Fig. 4 is the longitudinal cross-section of an embodiment of another bottle cap according to the invention.
- Fig. 5 shows the longitudinal cross-section of an embodiment of still another bottle cap according to the present invention.
- Fig. 2 shows a longitudinal cross-section of the bottle cap according to the invention.
- the cap body 3 is screwed on the threaded neck 2 of bottle 1 that can be of any type of known art, commercially available PET bottles.
- the inventive bottle cap is especially suitable for use with wide-mouth bottles.
- the configuration of cap body 3 is shown also in Fig. 1.
- cap body 3 has a rim 4 that is equipped with anti-slip ribbing.
- a skirt 26 is located adjacent to rim 4, which skirt 26, apart from covering the neck 2 of the bottle 1 and protecting the interior of the cap from getting stained during storage and transportation, has aesthetic functions.
- the cap body 3 has a rounded, shell-like dome 5 which has its base at rim 4.
- the shape of the dome 5 is that of a spherical segment, dome 5 comprising a ridge 29 along its largest diameter. At the interjections of ridge 29 and rim 4 pockets 30 are disposed in the dome 5, with pivots of lid 6 being snapped into said pockets 30.
- the lid 6 has a rounded shape conforming to the shape of dome 5, and is rotatable along the cap body 3 in an interval of 90 degrees, such that in the terminal positions of the lid 6 the edge thereof abuts against the ridge 26 of the cap body 3.
- lid 6 is equipped with a lever 31.
- the lid 6 can be made of composite plastic material.
- An elongated recess 7 is formed in the cap body 3, said recess 7 extending from the rim 4 to the largest diameter of the dome 5, in a direction perpendicular to the axis of rotation of lid 6.
- a hole 8 opens into the recess 7, said hole passing through the cap body 3.
- hole 8 ends in a broadening conical section 27.
- a seat face 9 is disposed in recess 7, beside the hole 8.
- the base of recess 7 is situated deeper than the outer surface of lid 6, such that the drinking portion 12 of the straw 11 , protruding from hole 8, can be folded and fitted into the recess 7 by the rotating motion of lid 6.
- the lid 6 stays entirely clear of recess 7 and the protruding straw 11. This position is suitable for drinking the contents of the bottle
- a breathing hole 10 opens onto seat face 9.
- the breathing hole 10 establishes connection between the interior of the bottle 1 and the environment, and ensures that the bottle is used comfortably, without disturbing sounds.
- the end of the elongated recess 7 that is situated proximate to rim 4 comprises an indentation 19 that is able to receive the first, inner sealing means 18 of the straw 11.
- the protruding drinking portion 12 of straw 11 is a pipe made of soft, flexible material such as silicone rubber.
- a first, inner sealing means 18 is located that is applied for separating the interior of the straw 11 from the environment. Different embodiments of the inner sealing means are shown in Figs.
- the end of the drinking portion 12 of the straw 11 is sealed by a rimmed plug 28.
- the drinking portion 24 is implemented as a closed-end pipe, with an undercut 25 being formed in the material of the drinking portion. Because the first, inner sealing means has to be removed (cut off or ripped off) before use, sealing the drinking end of the straw 11 provides - in addition to ensuring the hermetic closure of the bottle - a possibility for proving the originality of the straw. A further means for indicating originality is required between the cap and the bottle.
- a first, outer sealing means (not shown in the figures) is disposed on the outer surface of the drinking portion 12 of the straw 11.
- the first, outer sealing means is needed for providing hermetic closure before the consumption of the drink contained in the bottle 1.
- the first, outer sealing means is realized by joining the outer surface of the straw 11 to the seat face 9 above hole 8 by adhesive bonding. The strength of the bond is chosen in such a way that the surfaces can be disjoined applying a relatively small force. With such a configuration hermetic closure of the bottle cap can be achieved also at the breathing hole 10 prior to the consumption of the contained drink.
- the straw 11 At the first use of the bottle, after flipping up the lid 6 the straw 11 has to be pulled off from the seat face 9. After this the cap cannot be re-closed hermetically, but, as the contents of the bottle is usually drunk within a short time, hermetic closure is not needed again.
- the straw 11 is assembled from two portions, drinking portion 12 and transfer portion 13.
- the transfer portion 13 is made of polyethylene, and at one end has a conically narrowing section. Drinking portion 12 is pulled over this narrowing section.
- the narrowing section of the transfer portion 13 is inserted into the conical section 27 of the hole 8 of cap body 3, thus forming a third sealing means 17 which is effective both prior to and during the consumption of the contents of the bottle, sealing the hole 8 of cap body 3 hermetically.
- a sleeve 15 is disposed in the interior of the cap body 3 parallel with the axis of said cap body 3 and concentrically with the rim 4 thereof. By means of internal threading 14, sleeve 15 is screwed on the neck 2 of the bottle.
- FIG. 4 shows the longitudinal cross section of an embodiment of another bottle cap according to the invention.
- the cap body 103 is screwed on the neck 102 of bottle 101.
- a sealing film is adhesively joined to the end surface of the neck 102 of the bottle 101.
- the sealing film in addition to providing hermetic separation between the interior of the bottle 101 and the environment, also functions as an indicator of originality. Materials commonly used in food industry can be applied as sealing film and adhesive material.
- a sleeve 115 is disposed in the interior of the cap body 103. The threading located on the inner surface of sleeve 115 is used for screwing the cap on the bottle 101.
- Second sealing means 116 is effective both prior to and during the consumption of the drink contained in the bottle 101.
- the cap Before drinking the contents of the bottle 101 , first the cap has to be screwed off the neck of the bottle, and the sealing film has to be removed. Then, a straw of the already described type should be inserted into the hole 8 in the cap body 103. The drink contained in the bottle is now ready for consumption.
- FIG. 5 illustrates an embodiment of a further bottle cap according to the invention.
- This embodiment has the same structure and is operated in the same way as the cap described in connection with Fig. 2, but the sealing means are different.
- elements identical with previously mentioned ones are designated with the same numbers as before, and our description is restricted to features that are different from already mentioned ones.
- the configuration and function of the cap body 203 is similar to the above mentioned cap bodies, the difference being that in this case the first sealing means 128 is located in recess 207.
- the recess 207 has, apart from seat face 9, a further stop piece 204 that protrudes from the bottom surface of the recess 207 and is disposed in such a way that its height is the same as the height of the seat face 9.
