Abstract

The present invention relates to a transport device for transporting a sheet in a printing machine, said device comprising at least one pair of rotating transport means, in particular, transport belts (1,2), whereby two belt sections of said transport belts (1,2) cooperate in order to transport said sheet, in particular with intersecting belt sections, preferably for turning over a sheet. An object of the invention is to avoid or minimize the wear of the transport means and, at the same time, to avoid soiling the sheets. In accordance with the invention, this object is achieved in that at least one of the belt sections (3,4), which is free and not involved in the transport operation, is protected by a shield (7) along at least one segment, in which said belt section may contact another belt section.

Description

Transport Device for Transporting a Sheet in a Printing Machine
The present invention relates to a transport device for transporting a sheet in a printing machine, said device comprising at least one pair of rotating transport means, in particular, transport belts, whereby two belt sections of said transport belts cooperate in order to transport said sheet, in particular with intersecting belt sections, preferably for turning over a sheet.
A transport device of the aforementioned type has been known from documents DE 100 23 828 A1 and DE 100 40 980 A1.
Considering such a transport device, the problem is that sections of the belt that touch each other, in particular those that rub or chafe against each other, are subject to increased wear, specifically in the intersecting regions. In order to avoid or minimize this wear, it is possible to coat the transport means with oil or another such more or less liquid or spreadable sliding agent. However, this sliding agent may soil the sheets that are to be transported.
An object of the invention is to avoid or minimize the wear of the transport means and, at the same time, to avoid soiling the sheets.
In accordance with the invention, this object is achieved in that at least one of the belt sections, which is free and not involved in the transport operation, is protected by a shield along at least one segment, in which said belt section may contact another belt section. As result of this, the wear of the transport means is successfully prevented because the transport means are no longer in direct contact with each other and do not rub against each other. The material of this shield may be selected in such a manner that the transport means come into a low-wear contact with said material. Preferably, the shield can even be made of a sliding material for an unprotected belt section. In particular, due to the shield's triboelectric properties, a low-wear sliding assembly may be adjusted between this shield and the transport means.
A preferred modification of the invention provides that the shield is configured as a jacket. This jacket may be a hose or a tube, and may be specifically configured as a relatively stiff guiding sheath.
In order to facilitate the installation of the jacket, it is preferable that the jacket be provided with a longitudinal slit. In so doing, the jacket may advantageously be tensioned, because of its material and/or its shape, in such a manner that it is self- closing, so that, for example, an overlapping labyrinth closure is achieved.
One embodiment, which could result in additional inventive features but which does not restrict the scope of the present invention, is shown by the schematic drawings.
They show in
Fig. 1 a side view of two intersecting transport means, and
Fig. 2 a plan view of a section of the transport means as in Fig. 1.
Fig. 1 shows a side view of two intersecting transport means, namely belts 1 and 2. These belts 1 and 2 are deflected by deflecting rollers 6 and, in so doing, each forms free belt sections 3, 4, which are not in use, and synchronous belt sections 5, which, between them, receive and transport sheets. In particular in the intersecting region of belt sections 3, 4, 5, the free belt sections 3, 4 are passed through sheaths 7, which form a protective jacket. In so doing, sheaths 7, of course, may be supported by and mounted to a base frame, which is not illustrated in detail in Fig. 1. The directions of movement of belt sections 3 through 5 are indicated by arrows 8, respectively.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of a segment of belt sections 3 through 5. This illustration indicates that belt sections 5, which are involved in the transport operation and to which a load can be applied, run through the center of sheaths 7, which cannot be recognized very well in the illustration of Fig. 1.
