Definitions
- the present invention relates to a portable air conditioner.
- the present invention relates to a portable monoblock air conditioner, i.e. an air conditioner for interior spaces, which can be moved by means of convenient handling elements such as for instance wheels.
- a portable monoblock air conditioner i.e. an air conditioner for interior spaces
- Known portable air conditioners have a structure developing vertically, made up inside of a frame onto which the operating elements for generating conditioned air are engaged.
- said frame generally has a parallelepipedlike structure and, as was mentioned before, develops mainly vertically.
- the frame is made up of a supporting base generally of rectangular shape, under which are associated wheels enabling a manual handling of the air conditioner.
- the main components such as for instance compressor, heat exchanger, ventilating unit and condensate pumps, are engaged both onto the supporting base and to the upper portion of the frame.
- air conditioners can be easily moved inside closed rooms to be cooled, placing inlet and outlet duct for condensing air outside said room.
- Known air conditioners as described above have however relevant drawbacks .
- Said drawbacks are related to the geometrical structure of air conditioners and to their subsequent instability.
- the mainly vertical development of the frame results in a relatively high center of gravity, which endangers the balance of the whole structure when it is moved from one room to another.
- Said drawback is even more serious if particularly heavy components such as compressor or ventilating unit are arranged on the upper portion of the frame.
- a further drawback is due to the fact that very often said air conditioners have to be laid horizontally, and therefore inclined, to be moved for instance inside cars. The need to lay the air conditioner on one side results in its damage and in a possible migration of lubricating oil contained in the compressor towards the refrigerating circuit.
- the present invention aims at solving the problems at the state of the art by means of a portable air conditioner that is more stable and small in size.
- the invention aims at providing a portable air conditioner whose center of gravity is particularly low and placed in the lower portion of the air conditioner. This and other aims that will be more evident from the following description are basically achieved by a portable air conditioner comprising the characteristics listed in claim 1.
- FIG. 1 shows a front perspective view of an air conditioner according to a first solution
- FIG. 2 shows a rear perspective view of the air conditioner shown in Figure 1;
- FIG. 3 shows a top plan view, partially sectioned, of the air conditioner of Figure 1;
- FIG. 4 shows a front perspective view of an air conditioner according to a second embodiment
- FIG. 5 shows a rear view in elevation of the air conditioner of Figure 4.
- the portable air conditioner is globally referred to with number 1. It should be pointed out that the present invention is used especially in portable monoblock air conditioners, which do not require any fixed installation since they are provided with handling elements so as to be moved.
- said air conditioners can be moved from one room to another and arranged near windows or ducts communicating with outside so as to enable condensing air outlet .
- Air conditioner 1 is made up of a horizontal supporting base 2 with an upper surface 2a and a lower surface 2 .
- Supporting base 2 has a basically plate-like shape with a peripheral edge 3 onto which a covering element 4 gets engaged.
- Covering element 4 defines together with base 2 a containing compartment 5 between- the upper surface 2a of base 2 and the inner surface of said covering element 4.
- Covering element 4 has at least a lateral wall 6 extending transversally from the peripheral edge 3 of supporting base 2 to an upper wall 7 facing the upper surface 2a of base 2.
- covering element 4 has a plurality of lateral walls 6 extending transversally from the peripheral edge 3 of supporting base 2. Still more preferably, as shown in the accompanying fig- ures, the peripheral edge 3 of supporting base 2 has a basically rectangular shape, advantageously a square shape.
- covering element 4 has four lateral walls 6, each being associated to one side 3a of said peripheral edge 3 , and upper wall 7 has a square peripheral development .
- air conditioner 1 has a parallelepiped-like shape, with chamfered corners and with at least one of said lateral walls being rounded towards the outside.
- air conditioner 1 has a basically cubical shape, its lateral walls 6 being flat.
- air conditioner 1 can have any geometrical shape in which no main size can be detected.
- Supporting base 2 further has at least a conveying element 8 associated to the lower surface 2b of said base 2 for manually handling air conditioner 1.
- a conveying element 8 associated to the lower surface 2b of said base 2 for manually handling air conditioner 1.
- a plurality of conveying elements 8 are arranged at a given distance one from the other and advantageously associated to said peripheral edge 3.
- Said conveying elements 8 are for instance known wheels 8a, mounted turnably onto lower sur- • face 2b.
- Air conditioner 1 further comprises a condensing unit 9 housed inside containing compartment 5 and associated to the upper surface 2a of base 2.
- Beside condensing unit 9 there is further an evaporating unit 10, a compressor 11 for a refrigerating fluid and an electric motor for fan actuation 17, which are again housed inside compartment 5, arranged on the upper surface 2a of base 2 and preferably mounted directly onto said upper surface 2a.
- Condensing unit 9, evaporator 10, compressor 11 and electric motor for fan actuation 17 are the main elements of air conditioner 1 and preferably lie on the same horizontal plane.
- the air conditioner can comprises a further vertical frame, which is fastened to the upper surface of the supporting base. Onto said vertical frame at least one among condensing unit 9, evaporating unit 10, compressor 11 and motor 17 can be mounted, which are thus mounted indirectly onto the upper surface 2a of base 2.
- Condensing unit 9 has an air (condensing air) inlet duct 9a communicating with a corresponding air (condensing air) outlet duct 9b, and a fan 9c arranged between inlet duct 9a and outlet duct 9b.
- condensing unit 9 has a condensing battery 15 made up of a known heat exchanger, said battery being arranged between inlet duct 9a and fan 9c.
- battery 15 and fan 9c which conveys air from inlet duct 9a through said condensing battery 15 to outlet duct 9b, are associated to the upper surface 2a of base 2.
- Inlet duct 9a and outlet duct 9b are associated to a first opening 12a and to a second opening 12b, respectively, made in corresponding lateral walls 6.
- first 12a and second 12b opening are made in lateral walls 6 adjacent to one another, respectively.
- first opening 12a, corresponding to air inlet duct 9a is preferably made up of a grille filtrating sucked air inside air conditioner 1.
- Second opening 12b corresponding to air outlet duct 9b, is preferably made up of a tubular portion protruding from corresponding lateral wall 6. Under these circumstances, air directed by fan 9c onto condensing battery 15 is deviated by second opening 12b outside the room to be cooled by means of the tubular portion, which is advantageously connected to the outside of said room.
- evaporating unit 10 has an air (evaporating air) inlet duct 10a, an outlet duct 10b for cooled air and a fan 10c arranged between air inlet duct 10a and air outlet duct 10b.
- Evaporating unit 10 further has an evaporating battery 16 made up of a heat exchanger and arranged between inlet duct 10a and fan 10c. Evaporating battery 16 and fan 10c, which conveys air through said evaporating battery 16, are operatively engaged to the upper surface 2a of supporting base 2.
- Inlet duct 10a and outlet duct 10b of evaporating unit 10 are associated to a third opening 13a and to a fourth opening 13b, respectively, made in corresponding lateral walls 6.
- third 13a and fourth 13b opening are made in lateral walls 6 adjacent to one another, respectively.
- third opening 13a corresponding to evaporating air inlet duct 10a is arranged in the lateral wall 6 opposite the one in which condensing air inlet opening 12a is made.
- fourth opening 13b corresponding to evaporating air (air cooling the room) outlet duct 10b is arranged in a connecting portion 14 placed between the lateral wall 6 opposite the lateral wall 6 in which condensing air outlet opening 12b is made, and upper wall 7.
- Said connecting portion 14 has a deflecting element 14a for directing the flow of evaporating air (cold air) from bottom to top .
- Third opening 13a corresponding to evaporating air inlet duct 10a, is preferably made up of a grille filtrating sucked air inside air conditioner 1.
- inlet duct 10a and outlet duct 10b of evaporating unit 10 are both arranged on the same lateral wall 6.
- third opening 13a is placed below fourth opening 13b, which is near upper wall 7.
- fourth opening 13b from which evaporating air gets out can be made on upper wall 7 so as to direct cooled air from bottom to top.
- fans 9c and 10c of condensing unit 9 and evaporating unit 10, respectively, are operatively associated to one motor 17 anchored to the upper surface 2a of base 2.
- air conditioner 1 has a condensate discharge pump 18 associated to upper surface 2a and a series of further conventional components, such as electronic cards, etc., which are known per se and are not therefore described in further detail.
- the invention has important advantages and achieves the proposed aims .
- the air conditioner has an extremely stable and compact structure. This advantage is due to the lack of a predominant size in the air conditioner and mainly to the center of gravity placed in the supporting base and therefore in a very low position. As a consequence, the air conditioner is very stable especially when moved from one room to another one .
- air conditioner 1 does not develop vertically since all components are kept on base 2.
- air conditioner 1 does not have to be laid on one side when conveyed in particularly little spaces such as cars.
- a further advantage consists in the simple structure and construction of air conditioner 1, since its components are not mounted onto a frame developing vertically. As a consequence, all components are associated onto the same plane made up of supporting base 2
