Abstract

The invention relates to an assembly (10) for drying a wet particulate material. The assembly includes a hollow housing (12) defining an elongated treatment zone (14). A material inlet (16) leads into the treatment zone and a material outlet (18), spaced in use below the inlet, leads out of the treatment zone. That part of the treatment zone between the inlet and the outlet provides a flow path (20). In use, material move in a stream downwardly at least partially under gravity along the flow path. A plurality of guides (22) are arranged in the treatment zone, such that the flow path is tortuous and zigzags along its length. A vibration mechanism (24) is connected to the housing for assisting movement of material along the flow path. A heating arrangement (26) is provided for heating an upper part of the treatment zone, so that at least some moisture in the material moving along the upper part evaporates, thereby at least partially drying the material.
