Definitions
- the present invention is related to the mining and mineral treatment industry. Specifically, it is related to a process that uses a controlled electro-oxidation of thiourea solutions, electro-oxidized in a controlled way, to form in-situ an oxidizing agent capable of oxidizing and dissolving extracting gold and silver from minerals that contain them and the electrolytic recovery of said metals in the same process. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
- thiourea is irreversibly oxidized to a species that is not active for the complexation of gold and silver.
- Another impediment related to the use of thiourea is that the methods used to recover the precious metals from the solution cause contamination of the leaching solution itself, limiting the possibility of recirculating it in the process.
- An objective of the present invention is to avoid the harmful effect of external oxidizing agents in thiourea leaching solutions.
- Another objective is to recover the gold in metallic form and silver, once I extracted two of the mineral, so that the electrical energy used is used optimally, by using it, on the one hand, in one of the cells, to oxidize the thiourea and form the formamidine disulfide, and by the other, in the other cell, to reduce the value.
- our invention has two aspects, on the one hand, it allows us to solve the drawbacks of thiourea instability in the presence of oxidizing agents, allowing in the same process the clean recovery of metallic values, and it consists of an improvement in the silver and gold leaching solution from minerals or other materials containing it using thiourea solutions, said improvements characterized by the controlled electro-oxidation of the mentioned solution in a proportion of 10% to 30% with respect to the total amount of thiourea contained in the solution and the direct electro-deposition of gold and silver from said solution.
- the electrochemical cell which is made up of two sections, the cathodic section and the anodic section, separated by a membrane, it is in the anodic section where thiourea is oxidized, and in the cathodic section, the metals are reduced and they are recovered in metallic form.
- FIG 1 illustrates the block diagram of the process object of the present application.
- the partially oxidized solution (2) passes to the leaching reactor where it is mixed with the rich mineral (3) during the period set for the dissolution of gold and silver.
- the mixture of the solution rich in precious metals and the depleted mineral (gangue) (4) goes through a sol i-do (5) -liquid (6) separation stage [L / S] .
- the depleted solid is discarded in a conventional manner (tailings dam).
- the rich solution enters the cathode [CATHODIC] compartment of the electrolytic cell, where the metals are reduced and electrodeposited.
- the solution, now poor, together with a part of the metallic gold and silver (7) goes to another solid (8)-liquid (9) [L / S] separation stage to recover the values.
- the resulting current is adjusted with reagents (11) until reach the initial conditions of (1).
- Silver extraction was increased by 36% compared to leaching with an equivalent concentration of cyanide.
- the rich solution is subjected to electrolysis in the cathode compartment of the same cell where the thiourea is oxidized. After 2 hours, 98% of the silver and% gold present in solution were precipitated.
- the variations that these process modalities may have for the electro-oxidation of thiourea they can vary in terms of the concentration of DSFA required in the leaching composition and in the percentage of this component with respect to the amount of mineral to be treated and the concentrations of silver and gold it contains, however However, if at any time an electro-oxidized leaching solution is used, the process will be considered within the scope of the invention described with degree of empowerment, in the present application.
