Abstract

A layered inorganic material possessing organophilic properties and comprising acid-treated layered platy silicate functionalized with organic molecules having alcohol functionality; a nanocomposite comprising the inorganic layered material and a method for preparing the inorganic layered material which comprises contacting a layered inorganic material with a protonic acid and then contacting the acidified layered inorganic material with an alcohol.
