Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a device for determining specific product formation rates and/or substrate consumption rates of cells in a culture solution. Determination of the specific formation and/or consumption rates is based on measurement of the parameters of the number of living cells, cell viability and the product and substrate concentration in a cell culture sample whereby the culture solution is analysed by microscopic imaging of the cells and by evaluating said imaging and by determining the product and substrate concentration, more particularly, by means of SPR (surface plasmon resonance). Analysis of the parameters of said sample is carried out simultaneously, in an automatic manner.
