- FIG. 1 which represents a system according to the invention
- FIG. 2 which represents an operational diagram of the operation of an application implementing the system of the invention
- Figure 3 which represents an example of an electronic diagram of the system.
- the Figu re 1 system includes a unit for receiving and detecting electromagnetic waves which is a radio electronic tag 1 0 (“TAG”), a source of electrical power 1 6, a Bluetooth® module 1 8 and means for switching the power supply of the Bluetooth® module 1 8.
- TAG radio electronic tag 1 0
- the radio electronic label 1 0 comprises an antenna 1 1 intended to receive waves from an external generator not shown and a reception and detection circuit 1 2 comprising a integrated circuit (“RF IC”) producing a control signal 1 3 on a detection output when the generator adapted to the label is in operation.
- RF IC integrated circuit
- the integrated circuit of the label performs the decoding, respectively the coding, of the information received, respectively sent.
- the label therefore exchanges information with the external generator.
- the integrated circuit can record an identifier in a reprogrammable non-volatility memory (of the EEPROM type). This identifier is a character string from a few bytes to a few kilobytes. The size of the information contained in the chip is limited by the memory capacity and by the radio transmission speed.
- a Bluetooth® module has no imitation of this type, it can store information of the image, video or sound recording type. In a simplified version, the label is simply receiving. However, an identifier label allows specific activation of the module according to an identifier.
- the link 1 7 for supplying the label has been shown in dotted lines since the latter may be passive, not requiring its own supply, or, as shown, active, requiring its own supply.
- the electronic label therefore includes an integrated circuit and an antenna.
- This antenna in the case of a passive tag has a role, both of inductance making it possible to generate an induced supply current from a wave electromagnetic incident and antenna allowing the reception of the radio signal.
- the integrated circuit is powered by the induced current. This induced current is generally quite low and the energy available for the emission of the label is consequently reduced, which results in a reading range reduced to a few centimeters, or even more depending on the frequency.
- the active electronic label As for the active electronic label, it operates on the same principles except that it includes a power source. This increases its power and therefore the reading distance. However, we are still limited in speed and memory capacity as well as reading distance compared to a Class 1 version of Bluetooth® with a transmission power of 1,00mW.
- the label includes a rechargeable battery.
- the battery can, for example, be recharged by ind uction, label placed on a recharging generator for an extended time. It can also be recharged by solar cells during the lighting periods of the solar cell label. Although the charging current is low, the battery is recharged for an extended time and accumulates significant energy which can be restored almost instantaneously when the label is activated, which can allow a greater range (type of operation active).
- an energy management system can re-pass the label in short range mode operating only with the induced current (passive type operation) by the generator when the battery is charging is insufficient so that the label can always be activated regardless of the battery charge level.
- the Bluetooth® module 1 8 is connected to an antenna 1 9 for exchanges according to the Bluetooth® standard and to equipment not represented by inputs outputs 9, by example a temperature or position sensor.
- the module 1 8 also has a power supply control output 14 which acts concurrently with the control signal 1 3 of the label detection output, on the means enabling the power to be switched.
- the latter essentially comprise, in this example, a regulator 1 5 controlled by the two previously indicated outputs, of the module and of the label in order to make the regulator functional during a detection to supply the modu on 1 8, to maintain the 'supply or cut the supply according to the orders of the module 1 8.
- the regulator is connected upstream to the battery by a link 20 permanently supplied and downstream to the module by a link 21 supplied or not according to order.
- the system of the invention is incorporated in an autonomous equipment 7, the “BluetoothTAG” sensor, which comprises a sensor, for example of temperature.
- An independent device 6 includes a generator, “TAG” reader, intended to activate the module by means of a detection of its signal by the radio electronic tag.
- the device 6 further comprises a Bluetooth® module Bl allowing radio exchanges in particular with the equipment 7 comprising the system of the invention and with a remote base station 8.
- the apparatus 6 is in particular what is conventionally called “an electronic label reader” (simple reader or reader / label programmer) such as used for inventory management but which also includes means of radio connection according to the Bluetooth® protocol to allow remote exchanges (without "wire to paw") with a base station, conventionally a computer server inventory management.
- This device 6 can therefore also be used for simple reading or reading / programming of electronic labels. and exchanges with the base station, only for the activation of the "BluetoothTAG” sensor of the invention and exchanges with the latter via the Bluetooth® link.
- the Bluetooth® module of the “BluetoothTAG” sensor 7 (the equipment) is switched off (the voltage regulator / control transistor acts as a blocking switch).
- An operator seeks to exchange information with the sensor 7 via a Bluetooth® link and activates the generator, “TAG” reader, of the device 6 in order, for example, to write in a non-volatile memory of the electronic tag via radio wave.
- This activation which causes detection by the label and the power supply of the equipment module 7 corresponds to reference 1.
- the Bluetooth® module of the equipment 7 is now powered and goes into listening mode. A data exchange can then take place between the operator's device 6 and the Bluetooth® module of the equipment 7, which is referenced by 2 and 3.
- FIG. 2 shows the possibility of exchanging data by the references 4 and 5 between the apparatus 6 and a base station 8. It is understood that once the equipment module 7 is supplied, it can also communicate with any other means of Bluetooth® radio communication of its environment and, for example, directly with the base station.
- data exchanges between the "BluetoothTAG” sensor and other computer equipment can therefore be done either by the intermediary of the device 6 then of the base station 8 and the same connected to said equipment, or by only through the base station 8 itself connected to said equipment, either directly on this other equipment IT if the latter is in the radio communication environment of the "BluetoothTAG” sensor and has Bluetooth® radio means.
- the reading device 6 has, as shown in FIG. 2, two transmitters / receivers, one for the "TAG" reader (its receiver can possibly be omitted) and one for the Bluetooth® module.
- the reading device 6 has a single transmitter / receiver, the Bluetooth® module only, and this in case the “BluetoothTAG” sensor can be directly activated and supplied following reception by the unit for receiving equipment 7 of Bluetooth® radio signals.
- the first case is where the coding used by the electronic label is dissociated from the coding used by the Bluetooth® protocol of the sensor module
- Bluetooth ⁇ TAG 7.
- the label part of the equipment 7 may include its own programming means.
- the second case is that where the electronic label of the equipment 7 uses the frequency of 2.4 GHz which corresponds to the frequency of the Bluetooth® standard and, preferably, in this case, the label detects the signal or packet of identity (ID_Packet) as defined in version 1.1. (sped .1) of the Bluetooth® standard, page 55, chapter "4.4.1 .1 ID Packet".
- This identification (ID_Packet) corresponds according to this standard to the access code of the device ("Device Access Code" or DAC) or access search code ("Inquiry Access Code” or IAC) forming a data packet of a length of 68 bits. This type of packet is used to search for remote Bluetooth® devices.
- the frequency selectivity of the label is such that the frequency hopping of the Bluetooth® transmission is not detectable by the label and that 'it receives all the Bluetooth® signal inside its reception band, the electronic label only "sees" one carrier at 2.4G Hz.
- the label reception band is at least the width of the frequency band including jumps according to the Bluetooth® standard.
- the signal received at the label is -50dBm.
- the amplification circuit is switchable so as to activate it only periodically in order to reduce the average consumption of the system.
- the amplifier can be operated for 1 s every 10 s, which makes it possible to have a satisfactory level of amplification on average with a substantial reduction in average consumption.
- the values given are only examples.
- the switching of the amplification circuit in addition to all or nothing, can also affect the amplification level in order to adapt the amplification to the environment (near or distant transmitter).
- amplification or the operation of the label, more generally, for a determined time dependent on the presence or not of a modulation. It is then possible to reduce the duration of amplification (or operation) to a minimum time corresponding to a period of the identity packet signal (68 + 244, 5 ms) and in the presence of a modulation to maintain the amplification ( or operation) to allow detection of a number of modulations with Bluetooth® identity packet characteristics.
- the means for detecting the identity packet (ID_Packet) in the label can be a simple binary counter whose reset to zero is delayed (the reset timer is reset by reception of a signal) by a delay greater (in practice slightly greater) than the time between two successive bursts, ie greater than 244.5 ms, the counter thus making it possible to count a certain number of modulations which must be repeated regularly with a given periodicity before an output switches.
- a label reader 6 using Bluetooth® as a radio interface to a communication network with one or more computer equipment.
- the Bluetooth® interface of the reader 6 can then serve both as a connection protocol between the reader 6 and a base station 8 or a network, as well as a communication protocol between the reader 6 and a “BluetoothTAG” sensor 7 .
- the electromagnetic wave reception and detection unit can be simplified to the extreme by being almost passive and include, downstream of a possible antenna, an LC frequency selection circuit followed by a detector with a rectifying diode and filtering capacity output or a voltage doubling detector with two diodes and capacities.
- a voltage amplifier for example a transistor, can optionally be provided at the detector output if the generator field is insufficient to allow a level to be produced at the detector output enabling the controlled supply switching circuit to be controlled.
- FIG. 3 shows an example of a system comprising such a simplified unit.
- the unit corresponds to the circuits of block 1 0 or 1 0 'in the case of additional LC bridge filtering.
- the unit 1 0 comprises an antenna 1 1 on a frequency selection LC circuit followed by a capacity driving a rectifier / demodulator with voltage doubling with two capacities and diodes.
- the diodes are preferably H F diodes. If the sensitivity of the unit is too high, a resistive load or resistive divider bridge can be added at the output.
- the signal output detected in the unit goes to high 1 when a signal sent by an external generator of suitable frequency is detected.
- the signal output detected in the unit is sent to a first input of an AND gate 25 which, when the Bluetooth® module 1 8 is not supplied, receives a high signal 1 on its second input, line 25 ' module inhibition being low 0 and passing through a 25 "inverter.
- the signal 25 ' can be set high which blocks the output of gate AND 25 low 0 preventing new ones activations by detection
- the output of the AND gate is sent to a first input of an OR gate 24 receiving by its second input a forcing line 24 'coming from the module 1 8 and intended when it is 1 to force the power supply of the module
- the output of the OR gate 24 is sent to a diode, capacitance and (if any) resistance timing circuit allowing the gate voltage of a MOS transistor 22 to be kept high for 1 time determined after the output of the OR gate 24 has gone to low 0.
- the MOS transistor 22 is mounted as a switch (gate at 0) / conductor (gate at 1) of the supply 1 6 entering the transistor 22 through the line 20 and returned to module 18 by line 21.
- the module 18 includes an antenna 19 and inputs / outputs 9 to in particular a sensor or the like.
- the module 18 being physically close to the unit 1 0, 1 0 ', the inhibition line 25' makes it possible to prevent transmissions from the module 18 received and detected by the unit 1 0, 1 0 'causing a involuntary persistence of feeding in the case of a simplified unit.
- an inhibition line 25 ′ and a forcing line 24 ′ from module 1 8 have been used. These two lines are connected to the low potential 0 (ground) by resistors so that l hen module 1 8 is not powered, their levels are at zero. However, in order to reduce consumption, as far as possible, avoid loading (too much) the module lines or other lines. In other embodiments, a single line can be used which has these dual functions: forcing preventing the action of a detection. In case the module 1 8 requires a regulated voltage, a voltage regulator is interposed in the supply line of the module, either on line 20, or, preferably, on line 21 or in common with transistor 22 , the regulator then being controlled.
- the module 1 8 which can control the maintenance and stopping of the power supply once activated by signal detection by the unit 1 0.
- the unit is a direct or heterodyne receiver.
- a unit is preferred in which the high frequency part is reduced to the minimum possible and / or there is no high frequency oscillator.
- shielding problems radio frequency compatibility
- stability may arise.
- the system may be required to operate under extreme environmental conditions (temperature for example) or under a voltage which varies over time, in particular at the end of the life of the power source, a receiving unit too Selective may become non-operational when a less selective unit could have continued to operate.
- the unit is therefore chosen according to the applications and the autonomy envisaged.
- the power control output remains stable (corresponding level at the cut). Otherwise, if the level of the power control output varies (goes back to a level corresponding to power supply), there will be a refeeding of the module and the latter can never be practically de-energized.
- the level corresponding to the cut-off will be 0 (zero voltage le) and for power supply level 1 (high voltage).
- an integrator filter may be provided on the second control input of the controlled switching circuit.
