- the invention relates to a flat gasket for installation between components which are subjected to temperature-related relative movements in the operating state, in particular a cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine.
- Sealing elements are required between the sealing surfaces for sealing against media, for example in the case of combustion chamber seals in gasoline engines. These are usually formed by flat gaskets such as cylinder head gaskets.
- Today's internal combustion engines are often made from an engine block made of cast materials and a cylinder head made of a light metal. Due to different thermal expansions of the materials mentioned, sliding movements occur between the engine block and the cylinder head, the same being previously accommodated by the cylinder head gaskets, which are generally of a multi-layer but one-piece design.
- a cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine which has a multi-layer structure, wire rings being arranged in particular on the combustion chamber side between the individual layers, so that the layers concerned carry out a kind of rolling movement and the relative movement between the engine block and the cylinder head thus be moved to the area of the seal.
- the design of this cylinder head gasket is considered to be complex. As a result of the ner pressing during assembly, the wire ring will become dig into the surrounding sealing material, making it difficult to roll the layers with relative movement of the surrounding components.
- the invention has for its object to provide a flat gasket, in particular a cylinder head gasket, which has a simplified structure compared to the prior art and also enables a relative movement decoupled from the components concerned within the gasket.
- a relative movement within the seal is made possible by the use of at least two separate sealing packs as flat gaskets, in particular cylinder head gaskets. Compared to the prior art, a simpler structure is ensured, since no separate wire bodies that enable a rolling movement have to be used.
- the sliding movement of the components concerned, in particular the relative movement between the cylinder head and engine block, is thus shifted into the seal in the form of said sliding movement.
- the individual sealing packs can, but do not have to, be connected to one another for installation reasons. This can be brought about, for example, by means of a connection which is detachable or else flexible under operating conditions, for example by means of an adhesive or a sealing compound, of the individual sealing packages with one another.
