Definitions
- the present invention relates to a free fall flight simulator, that is to say an installation intended to keep a person in balance in a free fall position in a controlled flow of ascending air which passes through an evolution chamber.
- Such a type of free fall flight simulator has been designed for multiple purposes, for learning, training, training parachutists or confirmed competitors, or even finds its application in the context of amusement parks and Hobbies. It is clear that such a type of free fall flight simulator makes it possible to avoid all the problems of cost and meteorological hazards associated with the obligation to carry out a normal release at altitude from an airplane.
- the present invention therefore aims to develop a flight simulator in free fall which allows to generate an ascending air flow at decreasing speed.
- Such an air flow must be as homogeneous as possible to allow any user, whatever their weight and build, to work on their positions of equilibrium and free fall figures at different heights of equilibrium.
- Such an installation must of course also respond to a certain number of other constraints of respect for the environment, and more particularly to constraints of soundproofing.
- the present invention relates to a flight simulator in free fall which is characterized in that it comprises: a lower compression chamber:
- a cylindroid chamber defining an evolution space, which is located immediately above the compression chamber, and which is designed to be traversed by a homogeneous flow of ascending air having a gradient of regularly decreasing speeds from bottom to top ; and a generally cylindrical superstructure which envelops at least the evolution chamber of the simulator, which ends at its upper part by a dome covering said evolution chamber of the simulator, and which is arranged to promote air circulation leaving the evolution chamber, down towards the fan inlets.
- the interior surface ′ of the compression chamber must be shaped to generate a homogeneous air flow, essential for ensuring the stability of the operator in the evolution chamber.
- the free fall flight simulation installation comprises a part in superstructure 10 comprising a dome 12 protecting the cylinder of evolution proper 14.
- the part in superstructure extends, indifferently from a on either side of the dome 10, by a schematic representation of annex buildings 16 intended to house changing rooms, toilets and corridors for access to the evolution chamber 14.
- line 18 roughly diagrams the level of the ground. Below this level 18, the installation comprises an infrastructure part essentially composed of an annular technical room 20 ensuring the supply of air, as well as of the lower compression chamber 22.
- the lower compression chamber 22 has in the vicinity of its lower periphery a plurality of openings into which the outlets of centrifugal fans 24 arranged in a centripetal configuration open.
- This lower part of the compression chamber 22 is advantageously produced in a generally cylindrical form of revolution 26 extending upwards by a frustoconical part 28.
- the compression chamber 22 has, in the illustrated embodiment, a radius of 7.75 m and a height of 7.5 m.
- the shape of this chamber makes it possible in particular to generate the most homogeneous air speed curves possible. It has thus been found to be advantageous, in order to avoid detachment of the air stream along the inner wall of the frustoconical part 28 adjacent to the compression grid 30 arranged at the narrowed upper part of the frustoconical part 28, of equip the inner wall with an annular elbow 32 projecting towards the inside of the compression chamber 22.
- the annular elbow has a radius of 1 m.
- Such a profile characteristic of the internal wall of the compression chamber 22, makes it possible to channel the air flow and to efficiently transform the static pressure of the chamber into dynamic pressure without causing the separation of the air stream after passage of the annular bend 32.
- the latter has a radius of approximately 1 m and is preferably produced in the form of a piece of galvanized sheet metal which adapts perfectly to the structure of the concrete walls of the lower compression chamber.
- the fans arranged in the room can be constituted by centrifugal fans of the type comprising a screened suction pavilion, which will ensure the supply of air passing through openings formed around the annular technical room 20.
- the speed of passage of the air in this annular section as well as on arrival on the fan will preferably be less than 7 m / s.
- the axial fans will be mounted on a base and anti-vibration pads.
- the characteristics of the fans successfully used in practice can for example be as follows: unit air flow: 66 m 3 / s; fan pressure: 2,260 Pa;
- the air outlet speed of this type of fan should advantageously be around 40 m / s.
- the compression grid 30 implanted after the annular bend 32 mainly has the function of maintaining the pressure of the lower compression chamber 22 and to distribute as uniformly as possible the air speeds at the outlet from this compression chamber.
- the compression grid 30 which is mounted at the upper part of the lower compression chamber 22, is determined to generate a pressure drop of approximately 150 Pa.
- a grid having a mesh opening of 500 mm x 500 mm and for example a wire diameter of approximately 2 mm has given complete satisfaction.
- an air renewal must take place permanently 24, and this mainly to combat air overheating due to the operation of the fans and to regularly supply hygienic air.
- the upper part of the dome 12 has at least one fresh air intake provided with a sound trap.
- the air extraction is carried out mechanically by a plurality of extraction fans which also make it possible to control the temperature of the entire flight simulator.
- Sound traps can advantageously also be provided at the outlet of the exhaust fans.
- the compression grid 30 is surmounted by a cylindrical chamber 36 defining a development space which is located immediately above the compression chamber 22.
- This cylindrical chamber 36 is designed to be traversed by a homogeneous upward air flow having a regularly decreasing speed gradient from bottom to top.
- this cylindrical evolution chamber 36 comprises a generally cylindrical bottom part 38 which is extended upwards by a divergent conical part 40.
- the angle formed by the walls of the diverging conical part 40 with the vertical is less than about 6 °.
- the total height of evolution is of the order of 7 m. This total height of evolution extends between the two safety nets 42 and 44 equipping respectively the lower and upper parts of the cylindrical evolution chamber 36, when the intermediate comfort thread 43 is disassembled.
- the lower part of this cylindrical evolution chamber 36 is composed, ' in the installation illustrated in the appended figure, of a cylinder 3.80 m in diameter and 2 m high.
- the divergent conical part 40 has a height of 8.50 m with an angle of divergence from the vertical of approximately 3.6 °. In practice, such an angle has made it possible to avoid the wall effects and the detachment of the air stream along the cylindrical evolution chamber 36.
- the low safety net 42 located approximately 1.5 m from the compression grid 30, above the latter, leads to a pressure drop in the compression grid + net protection, of the order of 400 Pa.
- the users of the installation will be able to move over a height of approximately 7 m between the low protective net 42 and the limit of the lift being located approximately 50 cm below the upper protective net 44.
- the upper free edge of the cylindrical chamber 36 is provided with a peripheral flange 46 which can also be produced in the form of a transformation piece into galvanized sheet.
- the annular elbow 32 and the peripheral flange 46 made for example of galvanized sheet metal, as well as the safety nets 42 and 44 and the compression grid 30 will be put in place without a fastening clip capable of disturbing the flow of the fluid. .
- the speeds are distributed in the cylindrical evolution chamber 36 as follows: lower part: approximately 70 m / s middle part: approximately 50 m / s upper part: close to the limit speed of lift about 45 m / s.
- the speed of the air generated at the bottom namely around 70 m / s, allows most free fall figures to be performed by experienced operators. Beyond this zone, the speed will decrease in order to reach the limit speed of lift at the level of the upper section of this chamber 36.
- the intermediate section in fact corresponds to the most common speed of use for moderately experienced operators.
- This speed of approximately 50 m / s (180 km / h) will in particular be observed at the high point of the access platform 48 to the cylinder which is located at the level referenced 48 in the attached drawing.
- the invention presents a number not shown in more detail features intended in particular to ensure access to the room of 1 evolution.
- the cylindrical evolution chamber is equipped with an additional comfort net 43, fixed at its periphery in a removable manner.
- the wall of the middle part of the cylindrical evolution chamber has at least one opening opening into an access chamber closed 52 on the dome and defining an access platform 48, preferably having a cylindrical shape of revolution.
- the upper part of the access chamber 52 has a curved connection profile 54, with a concavity directed inwards to favor the circulation of the air flows.
- the additional comfort net 43 is arranged substantially at the level of said access platform 48.
- at least one peripheral net 56 allowing the operators to remain in the air flow is stretched over said opening in the extension of the wall of the divergent conical part 40.
- two peripheral threads 56 overlap at least partially so as to allow operators access to the evolution chamber.
- the inner wall of the conical chamber 40 comprises a flight and damping coping 58 whose inner face extends in the extension of said inner wall of the conical chamber 40.
- the homogeneity of the ascending air flow moving in the cylindroid chamber 36 is also favored by good recirculation of the air flow inside the superstructure and infrastructure of the installation, passing through the annular chamber 20.
- This air circulation has been shown diagrammatically by various arrows in the accompanying drawing.
- the superstructure is equipped with a profiled central projection of revolution 50 which is centered on the axis of revolution of the cylindroid evolution chamber 36.
- this central projection of revolution 50 affects the general shape of a cone, the lateral surface of which is concave with a concavity directed towards the inside of said projection.
- Such an arrangement makes it possible to favor changes in the direction of the air at the outlet of the cylindroid chamber 36.
