Abstract

La NPPasa es un enzima que cataliza la hidrólisis de una amplia gama de pequeñas moléculas con enlaces fosfodiéster y fosfosulfato, entre las que destaca la ADPG (adenosina difosfato glucosa) y el APS (adenosina 5'fosfosulfato). El enzima obtenido a partir de extractos vegetales se utiliza en dispositivos de ensayo para determinar niveles de azúcares-nucleósido-difosfato, basados bien en el azúcar-1-fosfato liberado, bien en el nucleósido monofosfato productos formados ambos por la reacción catalizada por la NPPasa, así como la detección de sulfonucleótidos como el 3'-fosfoadenosina 5'fosfosulfato (PAPS) y el APS. Asimismo se describe la secuencia aminoacídica del enzima, así como la secuencia nucleotídica de un cDNA completo y otro incompleto. Por último se describe la obtención de plantas transgénicas que sobre-expresen NPPasa y que poseen un contenido alto en azúcares, bajo contenido en almidón y polisacáridos de pared celular y una alta resistencia a altas concentraciones de sales y alta temperatura.
