Definitions

  • the present invention is an electronic device which has particular appliance for securing electrical appliances, preventing unintended activation by infant's e.g. small children or persons who might be in the same category of risk as small children (hereafter called inexperienced), thereby preventing injuries.
  • This new invention is intended to serve as a safety switch for electrical appliances by enforcing two hands operation, disabling unintended activation and at the same time preserve the functionality of the connected electrical appliance.
  • the novelty of this invention is that it, inserted between the power circuit of a household and an electrical appliance, only allows activation of the connected electrical appliance by its start switch, if the control key of the device is activated prior to and while the connected electrical appliance is switched on.
  • This protection device supplies the connected electrical appliance with two hands operation safety, and thereby protects inexperienced individuals from being injured if they try to switch the appliance on. In case the appliance is left connected to the protection device but switched off, the safety obtained is equivalent to unplugging the appliance from the power source.
  • the "load sensor" of the protection device prevents power supply to the appliance even if the control key is pressed.
  • the protection device has to be without power load (the appliance switch must be off) before an activation of the control key will supply power to the appliance, thus again a two hands operation.
  • This invention differs from nearest known technology by securing against unintended start of a connected electrical appliance (e.g. a hand blender).
  • the nearest known technology protects appliances against thermal overload and/or protects against damages which can be caused by heat emitting appliances if left unattended switched on.
  • the protection of appliances by these technologies is mainly obtained by a timer function which automatically switches off the power supply to the connected appliances after a preset time.
  • the timing function of the present invention differ from the nearest known technology by being a timer which determines the "reactivation time", defined as the period of time within which the appliance, after having been switched off, can be switched on again without activation of the control key, thus without two hands control.
  • the "reactivation time” is aimed at appliances which often will be switched on and off during operation - such as a hand blender.
  • Appliances connected to the power supply through the protection device can only be started by simultaneously activation of the control key and activation of the start switch of the appliance.
  • the protection device will shut off the power supply when the "reactivation time" has elapsed, hereafter the appliance can only be switched on by repeating the previously mentioned two hands control procedure.
  • the appliance can be turned off and on by operating its start switch only. In case the appliance is left connected to the protection device with the start switch activated - e.g. after a power failure - activation of the control key of the protection device will not start the appliance.
  • Figure 2 is the protection device in an adapter version, plugged into a standard household outlet.
  • the adapter is equipped with a light indicator (LED) indication the activity state, a control key for activation of the power supply and a female socket for connection of the appliance.
  • the adapter is equipped with a build in overload protection with automatically reset.
  • Figure 3 is the protection device in a build-in version with dimensions that fits into the standard housing for a normal rectangular household outlet.
  • the build-in version is equipped with the same control, indication and socket facilities as the adapter version.
  • Variants of the protection device are with or without ground connection, with mechanical or electronic control key and with different output power capabilities.
  • Figure 1 is a block diagram of the protection device.
  • Figure 2 is a picture showing the protection device in an adapter version.
  • Figure 3 is a picture showing the protection device as a build-in version (as power outlet).
  • Enclosure 1 is a diagram for the circuit with a mechanical control key.
  • Enclosure 2 is a part list for the circuit.
