Abstract

An electrical conductor has a steel core and a layer of copper cladded on the steel core. The conductor is in a cold deformed state so that the conductor has a tensile strength of more than 2700 - C x 27 MPa as measured over its whole cross-section, where C is the electrical conductivity expressed in percentage of IACS. The high tensile strength is reached by using a hyper-eutectoid steel and by a high degree of deformation. The electrical conductor can be used in electrical cables or strands and in communication cables. The advantages may be a decreased electrical resistance or an increased tensile strength.
