Description

APPARATUS FOR ADVERTISEMENT DISPLAY USING P4 LIGHT EMITTING DIODE
Technical Field
The present invention relates to an advertisement display billboard, and more particularly, to an advertisement display apparatus using P4 light emitting diode (hereinafter, referred to as "LED") which enables production of a high luminance advertisement display billboard through the use of a small number of LEDs for surface light emission of high luminance.
Background Art
In general, an indoor or outdoor advertisement, signboard of the like is produced in the form of a neon sign using neon gas or a light emitting structure using an LED so that it is can be recognized at night. Also, such advertisement or signboard may be produced in the form of a panaplex display in which a fluorescent lamp is mounted at the rear side of a printed photograph for displaying an advertisement. An advertisement using the neon sign can be easily recognized with the naked eye due to high luminance, but a neon tube is exposed to the outside so that it is likely to be damaged. Also, in case of the neon sign advertisement, water cleaning is not easy, lots of power is consumed due to the use of high voltage and heat is generated due to a high temperature, thereby exhibiting inefficiency in use. By virtue of such inefficiency problem, an advertisement billboard using an
LED is generally used. Such an advertisement billboard is disclosed in Korean
Patent Application No. 10-2000-49978 entitled "METHOD OF PRODUCING AN
INDOOR OR OUTDOOR ADVERTISEMENT" and a surface light emission type advertisement display billboard is disclosed in Korean Utility Model No. 20- 178982 entitled "LIGHT EMITTING STRUCTURE USING SYNTHETIC RESIN AND LIGHT EMITTING DIODE".
FIGs. la and lb illustrates perspective views, partly in section of conventional different light emitting structures using a typical LED and a chip type for advertisement display.
Referring to FIG. la, there is shown a light emitting structure 5 including LEDs 10, a reflective layer 20, a resin filling material 30, a light transmitting window 40 and an outer casing 50. The reflective layer 20, the LEDs 10 and the resin filling material 30 are provided in regular order in the interior of the outer casing 50, and then the light transmitting window 40 is covered on the upper portion of the outer casing 50. At this time, the outer surface of the light transmitting window 40 forms a light emitting surface 51.
Referring to FIG. lb, there is shown a light emitting structure including a chip type LED assembly 60, a reflective layer 20, a resin filling material 30 and an outer layer 50. The reflective layer 20, the chip type LED assembly 60 and the resin filling material 30 are provided in regular order in the interior of the outer casing 50, and a fluorescent layer 35 consisting of a mixed fluorescent or phosphor material formed on the resin filling material 30. Then, the outer surface of the fluorescent layer 35 forms a light emitting surface from which light is emitted to the outside.
Unlike the general LED 10 of FIG. la, the chip type LED assembly 60 is constructed in such a manner that connecting terminals 11 and light emitting wirings 12 are not coupled thereto, but LEDs 61 are attached on a planar printed circuit board (hereinafter, referred to as "PCB") by soldering, etc.
When such a chip type LED assembly is employed, there is obtained an advantage of reducing the entire thickness of the light emitting structure 5. The configuration of the reflective layer 20 and the resin filling material 30 are identical to that of FIG. la, and the fluorescent layer 35 serves to diffuse light emitted from the LEDs 61 in the form of diverse colors to improve light emission efficiency. The configuration of the outer casing 50, except for the light emitting surface 51, is identical to that of FIG. la.
For such a light emitting structure according to the prior art, the bottom surface and opposite lateral surfaces in the interior of the outer casing 50 are coated with certain uretan paint to form a reflective film so that brighter light can be diffused from the light emitting surface 51. Further, the inner space of the outer casing 50 defined by the bottom surface and the lateral surfaces thereof is filled with a transparent epoxy so that light can be scattered, thereby attaining surface light emission effect.
However, for such a conventional light emitting structure, there has been a problem in that it must undergo a complex process of filling the inner space of the outer casing 50 with a transparent epoxy. In addition, in case of an advertisement display billboard manufactured using the light emitting structure of the prior art, there has been another problem in that its optic angle is narrow in terms of the characteristics of the used LED or chip type LED assembly so that although light is scattered by the epoxy, a focal point in the LED emission is recognized with the naked eye. As a result, in case of manufacturing an advertisement display billboard using a number of LED or chip type LED assembly, brightness of its light emitting surface is not uniform so that when a user sees the advertisement display billboard over a long period of time, he or she feels fatigue of eyes. Further, in such conventional advertisement display billboard manufactured using the light emitting structure with the LED or chip type LED assembly, much heat is generated, and the inner space of the outer casing of the light emitting structure is sealed hermetically with the epoxy so that heat radiation effect is decreased and its life time is shortened when using it for a long time.
Disclosure of Invention
It is, therefore, an object of the present invention to solve the problem and to provide an advertisement display apparatus using an optic angle
LED(hereinafter, referred to as "P4 LED") which enables production of a high luminance advertisement display billboard using a small number of P4 LEDs with four pins for surface light emission of high luminance as a light source.
To achieve the above object of the present invention, there is provided an advertisement display apparatus comprising: a frame adapted to fixedly support an advertisement display billboard thereon; an outer casing having a predetermined shape to display a certain advertisement pattern or character and fixedly mounted on the frame; a printed circuit board fixedly mounted on the bottom surface of the interior of the outer casing; at least one light source arranged on a corresponding position of the printed circuit board in such a manner as to be electrically connected thereto; a transparent epoxy material filled in the inner space defined by the lateral surfaces and the bottom surface of the interior of the outer casing and adapted to fix the printed circuit board and the at least one light source in the outer casing; and a color epoxy material attached on the transparent epoxy material and adapted to hermetically seal the top surface of the outer casing for emission of light. Brief Description of the Drawings
Further objects and advantages of the invention can be more fully understood from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing in which:
FIGs. la and lb are perspective views, partly in section of advertisement display billboards according to the prior art;
FIGs. 2 and 3 are cross sectional views of advertisement display apparatuses using P4 LEDs according to different embodiments of the present invention; and
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the advertisement display apparatus in which light is emitted only from a single surface thereof according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Best Mode for Carrying Out the Invention
The present invention will now be described in detail in connection with preferred embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings. For reference, like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout several views.
FIG. 2 is a cross sectional views of an advertisement display apparatus using P4 LEDs according to a preferred embodiments of the present invention.
Referring to the FIG. 2, there is shown an advertisement display apparatus using P4 LEDs which includes a frame 101 for fixedly support an advertisement display billboard thereon, an outer casing 110 having a predetermined shape to display a certain advertisement pattern or character and fixedly mounted on the frame 101, a printed circuit board 111 fixedly mounted on the bottom surface of the interior of the outer casing 110, P4 LEDs 112 arranged on a corresponding position of the printed circuit board 111 in such a manner as to be electrically connected thereto, and a transparent epoxy material 114 filled in the interior of the outer casing 110 for fixing the printed circuit board 111 and the P4 LEDs 112 in the outer casing 110, and a color epoxy material 113 attached on the transparent epoxy material 114 and adapted to hermetically seal the top surface of the outer casing 110 for emission of light.
The operation of the advertisement display apparatus of the present invention will be described in detail hereinafter with reference to FIGs. 2. First, according to the present invention, an advertisement display billboard is manufactured using P4 LEDs as optic angle light emitting diodes, light is scatted evenly from the top surface of the advertisement display billboard so that surface light emission effect is maximized.
As shown in FIG. 2, an advertisement display billboard is fixed mounted on the frame 101.
The advertisement display apparatus of the present invention includes the outer casing 110 having an upwardly opened portion to display diverse patterns or characters. The printed circuit board (PCB) 111 connected electrically to the P4
LEDs 112 is fixedly mounted on the bottom surface of the interior of the outer casing 110.
At this time, a reflective film may be not formed on the inner surfaces of the outer casing 110 using white uretane paint. The inner space of the outer casing 110 is filled with a transparent epoxy material 114 up to the height of 2- 3mm below the top surface of the outer casing 110, and then a color epoxy material 113 mixed with dyes is formed on the transparent epoxy material 114, if necessary so that light is emitted maximumly without a light loss, thereby attaining excellent surface light emission effect. In this case, the interior of the outer casing 110 may not be filled with the transparent epoxy 114, but only a space formed at the upper portion of the outer casing 110 may be filled with the color epoxy material 113 and the outer casing 110 may be hermetically sealed. Since the P4 LEDs 112 electrically connected to the PCB 111 includes four connecting pins unlike the general LED or chip type LED, heat generated when current flows is released rapidly so that excellent heat radiation effect is obtained. Accordingly, life time of the P4 LEDs is extended as compared with other LEDs. In addition, brightness of the P4 LEDs is more excellent than that of general LEDs. When the same area of the P4 LEDs is manufactured in a surface light emission type to form an optic angle of 100 degrees or more, a smaller number of P4 LEDs is used as compared with the conventional chip type LED. Therefore, the P4 LEDs have high luminance but does not generate a focal point so that light from the P4 LEDs is evenly scattered to the top surface of the outer casing 110 without a light loss.
FIG. 3 is a cross sectional view of an advertisement display apparatus using P4 LEDs according to another preferred embodiment of the present invention.
As shown in FIG. 3, the advertisement display apparatus of the present invention is configured in such a manner that light from the P4 LED 112 is irradiated to the bottom surface of the interior of the outer casing 110 to give rear surface light emission effect to the advertisement display billboard having patterns or characters formed thereon.
For this purpose, an advertisement display billboard is fixedly mounted to the top surface of the frame 101 in such a manner that it is spaced apart by a certain distance from the top surface thereof. At this time, a downwardly opened lower portion of the outer casing 110 is directed to the top surface of the frame 101. Then, the PCB 111 is fixedly mounted on the underside of the upper portion of the outer casing 110 and the P4 LED 112 is fixed to a corresponding position of the PCB 111 by four connecting pins so that light from the P4 LED 112 is directed to the lower portion of the outer casing 110
At this time, the interior of the outer casing 110 may be filled with the transparent epoxy material 114, or only a space formed at the opened lower portion of the outer casing 110 may be filled with the color epoxy material 113 instead of filling the interior of the casing 110 with the transparent epoxy material
114 so that the outer casing 110 is hermetically sealed.
The rear surface light emission type advertisement display apparatus as constructed above gives rear surface light emission effect to the advertisement display billboard having patterns or characters formed thereon to allow a viewer to feel an aesthetic sense. Industrial Applicability
As described above, an advertisement display apparatus according to the present invention has advantages in that it employs an optic angle LED as P4 LED so that light can be uniformly dispersed from the top surface of the advertisement display billboard even without the need of filling the interior of the outer casing with a transparent epoxy material, thereby reducing fatigue of eyes and giving an aesthetic sense to a viewer. Moreover, since light is irradiated at an optic angle, a smaller number of P4 LEDs may be used as compared with a general LED, thereby obtaining more excellent surface light emission effect. Furthermore, there is eliminated the need of filling the interior of the outer casing with a transparent epoxy material and a separate reflective film for effective surface light emission is not required, thereby making the manufacturing process simpler and reducing the entire weight and manufacturing cost of the advertisement display apparatus.
While the present invention has been described with reference to the particular illustrative embodiments, the outer casing may be modified in the diverse light emission forms such as single surface light emission, three-surface stereoscopic light emission, rear surface light emission. It is to be appreciated that those skilled in the art can change or modify the embodiments without departing from the scope and spirit of the present invention.
